Thanks Harry, meant to post it in the Football forum as well, just got sidetracked. Huge pickups for us. What a solid class.

Yeah, been following ESPNU to see if either had shown up somewhere else. About to give myself an ulcer, was really nervous on these 2, who knows why, and good old Steven B posted the news we all wanted to hear, so +1 for Steven B. Glad they're here and can't wait for Next Fall!

It's official like a referee with a whistle. http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=1800&ATCLID=205088652 Both are signed and committed.

"weather" We Like It Or Not: It's Icy & Dangerous!
FloMoGrad replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
You were correct in half, they've cancelled the recruiting party with no reschedule date as of yet. No word yet on the game reschedule. -
Bethune Cookman sounds like his best option. We're fairly deep at RB this year, and looking at this recruiting class, for a couple yrs to come. If he wants to be the man, Bethune's his best option. No sitting out either.

Who Cares About The Rules ? Oversigning Continues
FloMoGrad replied to MeanGreen61's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I actually did play NAIA ball in college. Kind of funny. Just laughed at that ridiculousness of that comment. The inadequacy comes when you're coach leaves, and you don't have the same opportunity. I'm not advocating Free Agency in college football, nor did I in my previous post. I don't think the ability of a coach to leave, even via buyout, and the athlete have no re-course for himself, is an equitable situation. You commit to a coach as much as a school. So to invalidate your first line, coaches can leave when they're under contract, thru buyout, release, or resigning, with no penalty. Happens every yr. Several avenues and methods for it happening, and regardless, the athlete has no ability to change as well without penalty. So the school can cancel with no penalty, but the player is not afforded the same basic right? That's inequitable. I disagree, all good, just perspective right? -

I've never said this is the best class ever. I've said it's the most complete class we've seen in a number of years. I said I'm more excited about this class and the talent we've guided away from AQ programs than I have been before. I actually referenced the ability to sign a late term Juco signee. So we agree there? Look thru position-by-position, we've addressed every position on the team, top-to-bottom. How can you argue that. Not talented enough for you, that's a fair argument, but if we have needs at a position, we sign someone for that position, then how is that need not addressed? You don't see an impact player at DT because you think the only way we can address that position is by a Juco DT. I think we've already addressed it and there's talent on the team we don't give enough credit too, because we haven't seen them, in addition to the man child at 295 lbs we signed out of HS that was being recruited by numerous AQ's. There was no wildly optimistic claims. Now, my claiming we go undefeated next yr is wildly optimistic. But using your classifications, I guess I'm then not a fan of your grossly pessimistic views of this class. You keep whatever perspective you've got and I will absolutely gladly do the same. No Florida Sunshine bullshit, just calls them hows I sees them boss. Enjoy your weather. -
Another OL commit, has some room to grow as well, good pick up, happy surprise!

I'm almost positive that's why we backed out of our scheduled game with Tennessee. Administration really wanted to make our first game of the season, the stadium openener. I'd have rather gone to Tennessee than Bama, but that might be a cool road trip come early Fall.

Called that. Move your servers and site off-shore, to a non-friendly US country, set-up anonymously, and then tell the FCC to suck it. This happens a lot to sites that pirate any copyrighted material, music, movies, television programmming, you name it, somebody's streaming it.

We're Eating At The Big Boy Table Now
FloMoGrad replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I don't have to pretend, is was nearly 85 outside today. Welcome to South Florida. Spring Eligible players go to AQ. They also committed and made their decision before Coach Mac had figured out where the bathroom was in the Athletic Complex. Not one scouting service or recruiting guru expected us to sign a Spring DT transfer, including Vito and Coach Dan. We had a commit and he bounced. Such is life. We signed 2 quality DT's that have the size to come in and play, one being labeled an impact player and a streal for the program from AQ schools. We still adressed every position and every need on the team, and we're not even sure we're done with the class yet. Our graduating DT's were both late term signees, neither was here for the spring, and both came in and made an impact. But to you, our failure to recruit one type of DT, considering we did sign 2 and have 3 more on the roster already, makes this class incomplete? Interesting. Just sayin.. -
The only stat that kept him from a big time AQ program is his height. I was talking more height/weight measurables than on-field performance. I agree, his game stats speak for themselves, nearly a sack per game. That's huge.

Wonder If Signing Day Will Be Messed Up
FloMoGrad replied to SUMG's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Good thing most of our recruits aren't in the midwest. But good point, to most of the country, yes, might cause some delays, but in the end, I don't think it presents a problem to us. -

Absolutely agree on this point. Coaches can bounce anywhere, anytime, but unless your school straight up releases you, very rarely, can you transfer laterally within FBS and play the next yr. Crock o' shit. -
If we compensate him as we should, make him the highest paid coach in the belt and even close to middle of the road CUSA, we make the decision to leave a whole lot harder.
-
Give it 2 or 3 weeks, they'll re-organize, identify the loop holes, move their servers off shore and tell the FCC and FTC to go eat it. Nonetheless, glad I joined the Mean Green Premium for the month.

Unt Lands Another - Chad Polk, Woodrow Wilson
FloMoGrad replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
You're correct, that was the tackle, not the TE, bull rush, and put him on his ass then blew up the QB. Excited about this guy. -

Undersized and not fast enough, but somehow started 4 yrs straight, and put up nearly triple didget tackes and 14 sacks last yr. I think there coach said it all. This guy will be a major playmaker very soon, great comeback from missing out on Hunt. Gaines to the rescue yet again. -
4 year starter. Only other 4 yr starter at Wilson is now in the NFL. Speaks volumes to me. I don't care what the numbers say, give me a kid who knows the game and plays with passion and purpose, and coach will find a way to use him. This class is shaping up to be strong, and I love our pipeline in DISD and Cedar Hill/Duncanville.
-
I beg to differ. I think once our staff has a chance to actually lay the foundations of a relationship and win kids over, in the course of a yr, and not a couple months, that we'll see less and less of this. Hunt switched back for whatever reasons, but the perception of the program from those outside of it, are not good, and among other things, that played a roll. Win football games, lay the groundwork for recruiting in the Spring and I guarantee you we'll see more solid commits and won't rely on stealing recruits from other schools. We'll be there #1. And again, losing recruits to AQ schools only proves that our staff is focused on quality recruits. Just a difference in perspective and optimism.

Rankings Often Don't Translate To On-Field Success
FloMoGrad replied to FirefightnRick's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I changed dramatically from 17-20. Grew taller, started filling out, faster stronger, all those things. So if I got a grade my Sr. yr, it had nothing to do with how much I had blossemed in the next 2-3 yrs. So to try and predict who's going to be the best in 3-4 yrs is never going to be accurate. I look at recruiting grades as a arbitrary number assigned in order to quantify the "quality" of ones class. They are not and never will be an accurate predictor of an athlete's potential, career success and prospects for a career in the NFL. -
Houston, Rice, Missouri, FIU, TX A&M... We've been asking for more on the oline and dline. Class is getting pretty full. 23 now? Really liking the way this class is shaping up.

FloMoGrad replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Riley is a piss poor example sir. He only came because Daddy came. Period. His last class had 10 Juco's? The 2007 Class contributed only 3 players still on the roster. We've also failed to address at least one pressing need every yr. Not this yr. We addressed every need on our team, with only 3 Juco's and one of the largest classes in the last 5 yrs. Agreed, to ultimately know how this class turns out, we'll have to wait until 2013-2014, when they've all had a chance to become srs and we can truly judge the entire body of work. I appreciate your caution, truly do, but I'll remain optimistic and excited about the young men that have committed to us so far.
