  1. Looks like he had a State Champs t-shirt on, no love lost for that. But you'd think we'd provide all our recruits with a t-shirt and hat to put on for signing day?
  2. It also happened at Florida. When Urban Meyer goes on and says the ratings system is flawed, I'll tend to trust his judgement. Recruiting Rankings don't lead to national championships, coaching & once in a lifetime players do: Vince Young? Cam Newton? Auburn wasn't even in the top 25 last yr for recruiting. They lost all their "big" recruits to the bully down the block that just came off a national championship, but all they needed was one. Bud, they don't watach a bunch of film on a guy and then start handing out rankings. It's a highly political process. Who's been invited to what camps, who's being recruited by who. It's a pretty much worthless number, stars that is. That's not to say we should expect to be receiving high classes, I'm sure McCarney never had highl ranked classes at Iowa St, but they won a few games and a big XII championship. Understand your point, I think we've got some play makers on both sides of the ball, but honestly brother, it hasn't been lack of talent that's lost us games in the last 2-3 yrs. Championships aren't handed out on Feb 3rd. For over a decade Mac Brown and UT were in the top 5 nationally, but couldn't beat stoops. Recruiting is only half the battle, if that much. Solid class considering they had all of 8 weeks to put it together.
  3. Agreed. Especially since we have RTF dept, so we have the equipment necessary and the minds to do it right. Pretty poor effort.
  4. It is for me sir. It is for me. But bravo and kudos. While it's too early for me, I don't think it is for this staff.
  5. TCU has yet to ever sign a player form the ESPN top 150, which are the 5star and 4 star players everyone wants, until this year, and they got 1. Grades and stars partly come because of interest, so it's almost a self-predicting prcoess whereby the AQ's and larger schools targets are automatically rated a little higher because of the schools recruiting them. Rankings are a highly flawed system. I'm pleased with the class, I think Coach Mac got guys that fir his system, speed across the board, and a lot of veteran football players. Several 3 yr starters, a 4 yr starter, those kids know the game. Truthfully, if you can't be optimistic now, then when will you be?
  6. After spending the last 2 yrs recruiting at Florida, I'd be real hesitant to not trust his judgement of talent (speed, size, strength, power, overall "football" skills). He's seen the fastest, strongest, 5* , most athletic recruits in the country, he knows what he's looking for and what fit's his system. Canales and Bowen, same thing, Big East and Big XII, they know what they want. Throw some W's on the board, get to a bowl game, and this could get a lot more exciting come Signing Day next yr.
  7. Unless a walk-on/transfer has earned a ship that we're not counting? total speculation...
  8. That actually makes sense. Although still wonder what that has to do with what position he played or is ranked in? Unless he's unranked because he's a post grad, like how they don't necessarily rate Juco's against HS talent?
  9. Every college program I know requires their O-lineman to wear knee braces on both knees. So yes, I imagine both knees are precautionary, or else every lineman in the picture has had both knees worked on. Look closer, every OL in the picture has both knees braced.
  10. Agreed, Kudos gents... outstanding work.
  11. I had the same thought. The guy that put this together is really a basketball recruiting guy.
  12. The boy looks good in green and white! Got a chance to put Jones, OK on the map son. Good Pub.
  13. Good Find Harry, he does look like a big boy.
  14. Star's are handed out based on the top 50 then 51-150, then 151-300 and so forth. Urban Meyer was on ESPNU today and said the difference between a 147 ranked player and the 350th ranked player, was nonexistent. Pastor Grant hit it too, I think there's some guys under the radar in this class and a sleeper or two. Recruiting is only half the battle. TCU signed there first ESPNU top 150 player, a 4 star receiver, yet they've done pretty well for themselves. UT is near the top of the ranking every year, yet went 5-6 last yr. Never underestimate the importance of how the players are utilized and developed. Still feel like this was a very solid and complete class.
  15. Outstanding job parenting sir! I have a 2 yr old boy and that left me amazed. She's a better fan the most, she actually can sing the fight song.
  16. The more guys that play, the more guys you have "in" the game mentally, ready to step in and contribute, dialed in, learning while playing. Guys standing on the sideline knowing their not going in save for injury or blowout typically zone out during the game. Also makes practices more intense as you know you're going to get a shot come Saturday, so better learn the plan and be prepared for that, and compete everyday, to earn more time. Even Alabama rotates their D-Lines constantly. Those Big Boys need a couple 3 plays off some times to catch a breath and recharge. Keeps everyone fresher and more intense throughout the course of a game and season. Also reduces the risk of injuries, as most injuries occur once fatigue starts to set in, along with mental mistakes and a whole slew of bad things. If we're not big enough, per coach Mac, then we damn sure better outwork every opponent. Playing more guys can help us do that.
  17. Smith is a WR & Ruben is a DB/Safety.
  18. The whole scene is character deficient. Feel bad for the young man. She stole her own son's thunder. New nomination for Steal of the week at ThunderStealers.com
  19. I like that we're sending every commit a workout DVD and plan. Kids need structure and a plan. 18 yr olds very rarely have the knowledge and discipline to prepare their body for the collegiate game. I'd say GreyEagle pretty much nailed it. More players getting more playing time, means less fatigue for each player, which should equate to sharper execution and higher effort on every snap. Not to mention the added development across the board and the drawing in of players. If you know a lot of guys are going to play, you're going to go harder every day in practice and workouts, knowing you'll get your shot. Also breeds insane competition, which drives players to be better. "We're not gonna have guys running around with their tongue's draggin on our brand new turf."
  20. He played QB at Katy, so I imagine he's closer to the 6'2 number. That bench press is impressive, almost 1.75X his body weight, thats serious strength. This could be the steal of the entire class. Also don't forget about Polk. 4 yr starter on defense, 98 tackles last yr. Defensive Captain since his Soph. yr. Solid class.
  21. Ahhh, somethings never surprise me. Like the kid last year that staged a press conference and the whole nine yards to announce he was going to USC or somewhere fairly big time. Media was there, coaches, he put that hat on, only to find out the next day, he had absolutely 0 offers to play College FB. Sad, but not that surprising. Let's hope it was all just a miscommunication with dear old mom...
  22. Save two recruits from the Dodge big board: Marcus Smith and Kendrick Ruben.
  23. Most likely because the web cam they were using wasn't a pan and zoom kind of deal. I was disappointed not to hear the asst coaches speak for sure though.
  24. "We're going to play some defense people are going to be proud of at North Texas" That's like manna to my ears.
  25. I thought it was my connection. Take it as not being ready for the overwhelming response they received. Audio's good, all I was worried about.
