  1. The fact that Tre is now No. 1 on the UT depth chart probably means he is less inclined to transfer in order to get playing time in Denton. Just guessing, though. I'm no Medium or Mentalist. DMN
  2. I would, but I wouldn't be any good at it; I pledged GDI.
  3. Yes, you're onto him. He loaths UNT. But he spellths pretty well.
  4. I believe the Tech band did join the GB. I watched halftimes at both that Tech game and the NO Bowl with the big flag. Made me proud.
  5. It was at the late Texas Stadium.
  6. Way to pull for the home team! A big inspiration for our boys in uniform! Perhaps TD could have you in for a pregame pep talk! Hey, RV/TD, I think I found your 2009 football banquet speaker!
  7. Someday this is going to make for a very uncomfortable interrogation.
  8. I'm just guessing, but I think the disadvantage for Brett here is that he covers a team that finished last in the Sun Belt Conference in points scored (20.0 per game) and last among Bowl Subdivision teams in points allowed (47.6 per game) for the second straight season, had seven kicks blocked, and gave up five touchdowns on returns, accumulating a .143 winning percentage in the last two seasons, which was the worst for back-to-back seasons in the program's 93-year history, including 12 of 21 losses in that span that came by at least 28 points.
  9. On a scale ranging from Care About Craig Miller to Don't Care About Craig Miller, I think my needle is pointing toward Don't Care About Craig Miller.
  10. Now, that's what I call Dodging a bullet.
  11. A cousin of a friend of a guy I knew whose girlfriend used to work in the cafeteria at Victory Hall said heard that Goldfield's dad was pressuring him to transfer to A&M as a walk-on.
  12. An overanalysis that nobody cares about, prepared by people with too much time on their hands. Leaves me sleepy.
  13. And I've got the guy right here: Maybe the best JC coach in the country Joe Wharton is a local native (R.L. Turner, Carrollton), Baylor grad, Yankees draft pick, holds a master's degree from A&M-Commerce. And his teams at Richland have won the NJCAA World Series national championship four times, including this year, and have finished in the top five nationally in four other years. His career coaching record is 429-227. Renew baseball, and hire Joe Wharton.
  14. This is why the mascot, currently Uga VII, has an air-conditioned doghouse at the stadium. And why the millionaires have SkySuites.
  15. You're not likely to regret it, regardless of the score. Sanford Stadium holds nearly 93,000 and is usually sold out, meaning just about one of every 100 Georgians is there. One of the great game day experiences in the country. All that, a legendary mascot, and they give us nearly a million bucks for showing up. And heck, UNT might win. Yeah.
  16. And three of 11 are from the Sun Belt. An unhappy coincidence. Or is it proof of the academically elevated status of the Public Ivies such as the one in Norman?
  17. Agree. If we suspend for naughty words or even faux naughty words, we should expel for this kind of sickness. This is beyond anything I've read on this board.
  18. Be not deceived! The gentleman who is a member of the President's Council was NOT speaking for the council or the university or anyone but himself. He also testified before the House committee hearing, but with the opposite effect that he intended, since he came off looking silly and ill-informed. Dr. B., the SGA president, and the student regent also testified STRONGLY IN FAVOR of the bill. They got a very warm reception. In short, there is zero evidence that anyone officially speaking for the university is working against the stadium plan.
  19. Anybody who wants to testify, be advised, this hearing starts at 7 a.m. The House hearing was interesting. Dr. B, the SGA president and the student regent all testified for the bill. Now, they officially signed up as "neutral" on the bill because that's a requirement for state officials. But they all actually testified in favor of the bill. They testified quite effectively. Chairman Dan Branch also told Dr. B that he sees the UNT billboard every day on his way to work in Dallas and he's impressed that the school has grown so large and is doing such a good job of promoting itself. Everybody who is making a hobby of predicting failure because the administration isn't behind this effort needs to learn some facts before they spout off. Another person testified for the bill. Alum Noels (misspelled? Mr. Cornwell, are you reading this?) Cornwell was very enthusiastic. He noted it was nothing different from what every other major school in Texas has. Testifying against the bill was Philip Young, the same gentleman from Denton who wrote the op-ed in the NT Daily. Although he is a financial planner, he repeated his statement that Jerryworld is costing $270 million, and when questioned by a committee member on that, he said, well, that's what's on their web site. Given this assertion, I might be inclined to go elsewhere for financial planning. He also repeated all the other arguments from his op-ed, such as doubting the legitimacy of the vote and saying voice majors won't be able to buy season tickets to the Dallas Opera. Upon questioning by Rep. Patrick Rose, it appeared that Rep. Crownover, the House author, has received no more than three letters opposing the bill, which when compared to the big student turnout in the election, Rose seemed to suggest, pretty much seals the deal. Rose concluded by saying he thinks the fee is a great idea. The bill was left pending in committee. This is standard procedure for every bill upon first hearing. Given the positive response from the House committee, it seems likely to pass when it comes up for its second committee hearing. I got all this from watching the video of the hearing. Click the link, then pick the April 8 hearing. HB 2024 starts at about the 1:05:08. House hearing video
  20. Perhaps he was on the outs for not having fully achieved his goals.
  21. I suggest that everybody stop what they're doing and listen very, very carefully: Stop whining and moaning and buying into these nonsense conspiracy theories. And they are just nonsense, no matter how many people are going to dredge up ancient history proving that the universe is against UNT. SMU blackballing us back in the Dark Ages and some snide comment somebody made 35 years ago and Hurley hated athletics and UT rules everything and Lee Jackson's SMU ties (oh, please) and on and on. Don't you ever get tired of singing the same sad song over and over, or is it some sort of twisted rationalization that explains our lack of happiness? Instead, write a very respectful and upbeat and optimistic letter (mail is better than email -- it shows that you took more time and trouble) to your state senator, state rep, and the committee members. Refer to the bill by number. Ask them to support it and say it's important to you and many others. For God's sake, please spell his/her name correctly. I assure you, legislators read their mail. They don't read GMG. At least, I pray they don't, given the fevered persecution fantasies that motivate some folks.
  22. Hey! I think I have the solution to this problem! How about we quit whining? I dunno, but it might just work!
  23. It was wearing a kick-me sign. It would have been wrong not to act.
  24. I suggest that people read and watch more sports journalism to get a wider idea of what's what. I suggest that they watch Around the Horn. I suggest that they learn something about what people write and say about some of the consistently top-ranked college teams. You'd think they were the sorriest messes of woe in history. Once you get some wider experience, you might understand that what North Texas gets is the mildest coverage imaginable. I also suggest that people stop thinking about football for a few days and concentrate on the outstanding play of Mean Green basketball.
  25. First-time head coach takes over a lackluster program, wins one playoff game, nearly wins two. Pretty good start. Congratulations to the coach and team.
