Svoboda was demoted from Special Teams Coordinator to an off the field assistant. I'm not saying it's a bad hire. They obviously valued having him around. If not, they would have cut ties immediately. Coleman Hutzler was the special teams coordinator that Alabama hired away from Ole Miss to replace Svoboda. From what I read on another forum, they liked having Svoboda on staff for his Texas HS ties.

Before the TCU loss where the Iowa St defense gave up 62 points, their defense was averaging 16.5 points a game. If our defense could do that, man we would win so many games. Iowa St struggles this past year were on offense, not defense. I think this will be a really good hire.

This stands out to me. The points given up in the offense heavy Big 12 and the total yards given up. We struggled with both of these in one of the worst divisions in College FB. I like the hire. He's a Pittsburgh guy, I imagine he's hard working and will recruit tough kids. I'm excited for the Gilbert hire, but kind of bummed that Coach Mayes won't be coaching TEs. I'm assuming he won't be on the staff next year. Hats off to Coach Mayes for turning the TE position into a strength around here.

I love this hire. He brings instant credibility to the program. This should bring us some solid commitments and shore up the relationships with DFW HS coaches.

Our 3rd string TE already has offers from Cal, Miami (OH), and Troy. Three schools that we couldn't beat.
