  1. Coach O sent a tweet out the other day asking where are my TEs at. Did you watch his offense highlights? He is an aggressive blocker. Several plays he was driving his guy back and pancaking them. He's not the fastest guy, but it does appear that he has hands. We just lost 2 of our better blocking TEs. I imagine this is what they are recruiting him for. This would be a good addition to the TE room. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12987243/634cbe24e985240db88d34c3
  2. Give out tickets to the first 5,000 (must be 21+) fans for half priced beers. $2 ice cream cones for kids Hire some has been artist to do a pre-game show inside the stadium. Have a DJ play mumble rap on the student side to attract more gen Z/college kids.
  3. After reading this thread, it sounds like our DL will be expected to take on blocks while LBs blitz. As someone else mentioned, that is why Iowa St has large interior/middle LBs. They take on blocks while the other guys run free. The scheme will be different than Phil's defense. I'm sure it will have some similar coverages/blitzes to Reffert's 3-3-5. I just hope we keep adding guys after the spring like JD mentioned.
  4. No problem. I'm not saying that like qualified kids don't play in it. I just know 1 of the guys from my hometown who was nominated was fundraising to go play in the game. He was getting FBS looks but ended up at a JUCO. I think he is playing ball now at an FCS on the East Coast. Another kid who was nominated, didn't sign anywhere. He was getting D2 and D3 offers. It's just a mixed bag, but you have to pay to play in it.
  5. You mean the blue/grey game where you have to pay your own way to play at? Kids from my high school who have no business playing D1 ball have participated in that game. Essentially if you can afford the couple thousand dollars to participate, they will let you play. There is some nomination process for it.
  6. Nixon is another returning starter at LB. So Nixon, Brown, and Wood should all be able to contribute next year. Carson Kropp was a special teams guy, but he has decent size and played some at Oklahoma St. Hopefully some of the guys from the 20 and 21 class can contribute at LB as well. A few names that come to mind are Ethan Wesloski, Jax Van Zandt, and Chris Wright.
  7. We are losing 4 starters on defense KD Davis, DeShawn Gaddie, Quinn Whitlock, and Sean Thomas-Faulkner. Potential Replacements: Jordan Brown or Kevin Wood at LB Phil Hill at S Nick Nakwassah at S Lorenzo Thompson at CB? Not sure who will replace Faulkner, Whitlock, or Gaddie. Granted we will be running a 3-3-5, so the positions will change up a little bit. Phil Hill (UNLV) and Nick Nakwassah (Central Arkansas) started prior to getting hurt. Damon Youngblood is another guy that we just signed. He should compete for playing time in the secondary.
  8. https://unlvrebels.com/sports/football/roster/phillip-hill/14429 2021 stats 46 Tackles 3 INT 1 Sack
  9. A DFW kid who played meaningful snaps at a Big 12 school. Not a bad pick up. Welcome aboard!
  10. It looks like he's out of college athletics now and working in medical sales.
  11. Thanks for the time and effort you gave to the program. It will be a little weird not seeing Quinn on the sideline or in the booth. I know he gave everything he had for this program. I hope everything goes well for him at UC Davis. Best of luck!
  12. Thanks for your time here. I enjoyed watching him play. Now, let's go find a stud FCS DB or one from a P5 school that's seeking playing time. I'm sure we could find a good JUCO DB. Kemon Hall and Eric Jenkins were both JUCO CBs that played well for us.
  13. Have you seen our out of conference schedule? We should win at least 3 out of conference games. If we don't win 6 games next year, I will be very disappointed. We are losing 3 starters on offense Manase Mose, Jake Roberts, and Austin Aune; 3 starters on defense KD Davis, Quinn Whitlock, and Sean Thomas-Faulkner. Edit to include Gaddie. Replacements: Chandler Rogers or Earle Stone QB Paula Talimoni Vaipulu C Gumms at TE Jordan Brown at LB Not sure who will replace Faulkner or Whitlock. Granted we will be running a 3-3-5, so the positions will change up a little bit. We did just sign Damon Youngblood at S and have Nick Nakwassah who started at Central Arkansas prior to getting hurt on the roster as well. Out of Conference: Cal 4-8 (New OC and QB) Abilene Christian (FCS) La Tech (we beat 47-27) FIU (we beat 52-14) Conference Home: (Ok I fully expect us to go 2-2 or 1-3 here) UTSA (They beat us twice) Memphis (Lost by 10) UAB (Lost by 3 TDs) Temple (3-9 last year) Conference Away: (I could see us beating Tulsa and Navy 2-2) Tulsa (5-7 and lost starting QB to the portal) SMU (trust fund kids beat us every year) Tulane (they just beat USC in the Cotton Bowl) Navy (4-8 triple option team that has a new HC)
  14. Yeah, that is possible. He will need to improve his speed if they use him as a LB. Any player can get NIL $$$. It's their name image and likeness they are making money off of.
  15. I think he signed. This tweet came from the football team's Twitter.
  16. https://247sports.com/Player/Devin-Strange-46097450/ https://www.hudl.com/profile/11805517/Devin-Strange He has the size to play at this level 6'3 235. First team All-District 6-6A DE. It looks like he was at Argyle Christian in 2020 and then transferred back to Flower Mound Marcus. I just watched his highlights. I was impressed with how he fought off blocks and made several tackles. However, there were a few plays where he got tangled up with OL and was kind of slow to react. He will need to probably improve his strength so he can fight off FBS OL. He did seem a little slow coming off the ball. I mean it could be due to the defense that Marcus was running. A lot of the high schools run zone read/RPO plays, so he could have been coached to stay home instead of rushing the QB every play. I see why the coaching staff went after him. After a few years of coaching and bulking up in the weight room, he could be on the rotation in the DL. Size is one thing that you can't coach, and he already has a good frame. I hope he works hard and earns a scholarship.
  17. Also had offers from ULM and Incarnate Word. He was getting interest from big schools but a knee injury derailed him.
  18. I'm thinking based on the graphic this might be a walk on, but I could be wrong. Either way, always good to get local guys on the team.
  19. Offers from Alabama St and Charlotte. He ran a 4.38 40 according to his Twitter.
  20. Dontavius Burrows 6’2- 208lbs DB Tyler JC-4.38 40 Offers from Alabama St and Charlotte
  21. He flies to the ball. I got Marcus Trice vibes watching his film. Very nice addition to the defense. Welcome aboard Dietrich!
  22. JD beat me too it. I just saw this tweet as well. Hopefully it's on the defensive side of the ball.
  23. I think re-calibrating is the proper term for this year. We have a lot of pieces in place already. New QB, C, LB, S and K/P. I'm sure there are a few additional changes, but these are the few that stick out.
  24. I just watched his game against Texas State. ULM was terrible on defense. Their offense was pretty good. Almost every play I watched, the ball was out of his hand within 3 seconds. He also was pretty good at evading pressure and using his legs to get a first down. There were a couple of plays where his WR was wide open and he got a little excited and overthrew his WR. He will need to work on adding a little touch to his throws. Overall, I'm still very excited about this pick up.
  25. I found his junior highlights from high school. I see why Texas Tech went after him. He was great at securing the edge on running plays. There were several plays where he was able to cut off the DEs and the RB or QB was able to gain several yards. I also noticed him doing well chip blocking. He would get a piece of the DE and then run up field and block a LB. He did well pass blocking against the high school DL. I’m sure this has improved from his time at Tech. https://247sports.com/Video/Junior-Season-Highlights-9036184/ Prettt impressive offer list out of HS: Texas Tech, Kansas, Colorado St, Georgia Tech, Houston, UL LA, ULM, NM St, Oklahoma St, SMU, Tulsa, Toledo, TX Southern, Tulane, UTSA, and Utah State https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Larry-Moore-124969/RecruitInterests/
