First Marcus, then Felton, now Sparks.
GreenEggs&Ham™ replied to UNT96's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I went to Grad School at Murray State (50% complete). Great basketball tradition. They lost to Michigan State about ten years ago in OT that would have sent the Racers to the final 8. Very isolated location. Don't recomend living there, however it did boast one of the very lowest crime rates in the nation at one time. -
I am GreenEggs&Ham and I graduated from North Texas in '91 with a BS in Physics. I live with my wife and 3 year old son here in Bowling Green Kentucky, which is home to the GM Corvette assembly plant, Holley Carbuerator HQ, Froot of the Loom HQ and also where Fab laundry detergent and Science Diet dog food is made. I have worked in the automotive industry, which is king in KY, for about seven years. I worked as a Test Engineer for Akebono Brake Industry and before that at Aisin. I quit working as an engineer at Christmas because of the stress and long hours involved and have started a new career in Sales. Bowling Green is good but I miss Texas and especially NT Football. Since my wife is a native Texan I hope to eventually move back if you guys will allow me to legally immigrate. I don't post often, but I read posts every day.

Thinking ahead to hosting the conf tourney..
GreenEggs&Ham™ replied to UNT96's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Just some information to add. The SunBelt tourney attendance here in Bowling Green last week was listed at over 44,000 which is the new attendance record for the conference tournament. Western KY U. spent $500,000 dollars to host the tournament according to AD Wood Selig today. -
Sunbelt Conference Corporate Sponsor
GreenEggs&Ham™ replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Aéropostale is listed as the sponsor in ads for this year's Sunbelt conference basketball tournament here in Bowling Green. They also just opened a store here which always looks very busy when I walk by it in the mall. -
Bowling Green received 2 inches of snow last night and 1 inch Saturday night, but I didn't have a whole lot of trouble commuting to work this morning. Snow packed roads are driveable, it's the ice you have to worry about. People here tend to drive reasonably well in snow and ice as we get 5 or 6 snow storms a year. GreenEggs&Ham winter driving tips: 1. Keep 4 car lengths distance to the car in front of you. 2. Do not panic if you begin to slide and don't apply the brakes! 3. If you begin to slide, turn the steering wheel into the direction you want the car to go. Remain calm. You would be amazed how many times I saved my arse by staying calm. 4. Use 2nd gear or low 2 in heavy snow. My Grandfather retired from the road dept. here and he taught me that one. It works! 5. Keep your gas tank full and never drive over 35 mph. Also turn rear defroster on to melt ice and snow as it accumulates on your rear window to improve visability. 6. I have used my ABS to stop on ice before, but try it in the parking lot at low speed first. ABS transmits a pulsation to the brake pedal and takes some getting used to.

I saw the tv ad tonight for this year's Sunbelt conference tourney. It had all the schools logos and a shot of a WKU player jamin over a UNT defender. Couldn't tell who it was because it flashed on then off plus I was stuffing my face with chicken at the time. I plan on going to the UNT game and maybe the championship game. I recommend staying in Nashville (60 miles) if you come to the tourney and don't plan on going to all the games and want something else to do. I will post more info about Bowling Green if anyone is coming and wants to stay in town. It's actually a very interesting city of 50K people that includes the National Corvette Museum, World Headquarters for Fruit of the Loom, DESA and Holley Carbuerator and of course the GM ass'y plant where Corvettes are built. There is a huge dog food factory here and contractors have told me that it smells so bad inside that you must throw your close away if you just walk through it. I will post places to stay later if anyone is interested.

Bowling Green is a great town and a football National Championship is something no place in Texas can claim right now. Heck, if Marcus would have been healthy this year.....who knows??? I work in automotive, so I probably will stay here until I retire. Might as well be a Topper fan; except when the Mean Green are in town.

Sure, I'll trade with you. It has snowed about every week this year including 2 inches tonight. It was 10°F yesterday and -1°F about two weeks ago. I like Bowling Green a lot, but I miss UNT football games and the warm weather and the endless things to do. WKU is growing and so is Bowling Green. Not a bad place to live if you are a WKU fan and don't mind a little snow and a lot of boredom. We will welcome you back anytime.

I didn't make the 1.5 hour drive in the snow to watch MTSU beat the crap out of NT tonight, but I can watch Saturday's game against WKU live here in Bowling Green. There was an advertisement in tonights paper. If you have not seen Patrick Sparks play, I can promise you it will be worth the price of admission to see this kid. Hope to see a good turnout Saturday night!

DMN NT Men win in double OT 94-91 over
GreenEggs&Ham™ replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Can you believe that there is an article about every single North Texas basketball game in the local paper here in Bowling Green!? Even one today (AP) about the FIU game. I couldn't cut and paste because it didn't appear online, but it sure beats reading line scores every week. -
Agree CMJ. My wife and I may attend this game Saturday. Tennesse Tech has been very good the past few years otherwise I probably would not consider making the two hour drive.

WKU announced that Chris Marcus will return to action Jan 4th in time for Sunbelt opener. He had minor foot surgery again last week but they claim he will play in 2 weeks! Look out if he is healthy. WKU has some prolific scoreres (Sparks,Winchester (this kid can light it up)) if he can open up the outside for them. Their losses this year have also been due to being out rebounded too.

Before you laugh at my vacation plans to visit your backyard, please keep in mind that I haven't been to campus in 8 years and my wife and I are looking for a warmer climate for the holidays (calling for 7 inches of snow tonight in Bowling Green). We would take 60s or even 50s weather and Denton is only about 11 hours. My questions are: Is the Fort Worth Zoo worth visiting. I think my 2 year old son would love it? I visited once about 10 years ago. Is it still first rate? Where is the very best place to stay in Denton and Best Tex-Mex restaurant? We also plan on attending the A&M Commerce game and stocking up on NT paraphanalia. Any and all info is welcome. Eight years is a long time so I am no longer that familiar with DFW and Denton.

I budgeted $200 this year to purchase first rate North Texas gear and I can't spend it! I ordered everything that I remotely like from Voertman's website and ended up spending $70.00 only to have one item out of stock knocking it down to $51.00. I also looked at the UNT Bookstore website but they have a very limited selection. I found buyunt.com but my personal preference is to avoid UNT in favor of North Texas. Nothing wrong with UNT just my preference. I also found the link below. They do not carry North Texas logos but I e-mailed them to ask if they would add us. Notice ULL is on their list. Land's End Alumni Collection Does anyone know of any more websites that I can look at. I need some stuff before MTSU!

Nigel Dixon Transfers to WKU
GreenEggs&Ham™ replied to GreenEggs&Ham™'s topic in Mean Green Basketball
They beat Kentucky last year in Rupp arena and Louisville canceled their game (postponed actually) with WKU this year. They are tough and it isn't out of the question for them to meet Texas in the tourney in March. Kentucky basketball is a notch or 2 above Texas and I can't be covinced otherwise. Too many National Titles and Final eight and final four appearances from secondary schools to make me think otherwise. Did you know WKU made it to the final Four once? -
Nigel Dixon (6'11" 350 lbs) has officially transferred to WKU to play basketball. He will be eligible next season and stated that he wanted to play for a winner and for a more prestigious program ( saw that on the news, wow!). I challenge anybody in the state of Texas to go toe-to-toe with WKU this year. Hell anybody in the Big 12 for that matter because they are for real. They simply reload next year when Marcus leaves and Dixon suits up. Too bad their schedule hasn't been released yet. I think it is weak again this year from what I have heard.

"At least 27 of the country's 1,000 private colleges have either closed or are planning to close since the beginning of 1997, up 35 percent from the previous five-year period. People are figuring out that an expensive degree may not make much difference in marketability. 50 years ago, half of all college students went to private colleges compared to less than one-fifth of today's students. " Dan Miller (Career Coach) Nashville, TN I graduated from a fairly exclusive private high school and even I new 15 years ago that the public universities in this country had long since caught up. I guess Mr. Miller has the statistics to prove it.

Top Ten Ways You Can Make a Difference at UNT

I have done six out of ten thanks to UNT96 who sent me a North Texas decal for my car. -
What I Would Like To See Change On UNT's Campus
GreenEggs&Ham™ replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Athletics
When I was a student back in the 80's, North Texas tried to clean the dome on top of the Administration building to remove the green copper corrosion. I think it worked but it came back I guess. But what the hell do I know, I haven't stepped foot on campus in 8 years. I would like to see more trees and and a unique, eye catching, maybe a little bit cooky football stadium. -
