  1. In their defense, this COULD be sabotage. It's such an egregious and comical failure; it is unlikely to have just "happened" by accident.
  2. That press release breaks a golden rule. It makes a damn excuse. I have long believed that there is a special kind of malaise/apathy over the North Texas area when it comes to sports. I used to tell people in Denton back in the 1980's that Notre Dame football couldn't make it any better in Denton than NTSU.
  3. An OSU fan board claims that OSU outbid UNT to host the game due to low attendance at UNT. It's pure propaganda but why lob a damn softball right over the plate in this situation? It's so North Texas.
  4. Let's pack the Pit for the faculty luncheon. We can sit silently and watch them eat. All 11,000 of us. And when they are done eating, we can stand up and clap for them.
  5. UNT Administration wins the "Clown Shoes" of the year award. I am truly stunned at the ineptitude that led to this. Press conference needed!
  6. UNT needs to focus on a really good Ark. St. team for sure and I do believe SMU will beat OSU. But the AD needs to start working on freeing up the Superpit for a possible OSU matchup. If it is a concert, then likely nothing can be done. But anything else needs to be strongarmed out of the way.
  7. What an awful decision and terrible mismanagement at NTSU that resulted in dropping to 1-AA briefly. Highly compensated people need to have very high job performance expectations. That must not have happened back in 1980 at NTSU. I am sure they all kept their highly overcompensated roles at NTSU and NT is still feeling the effects from the mismanagement. Dennis Parker forgot to take the playbook to one game as I recall. I think it was against Nebraska. He also punted on 3rd down against OU in 1991. I was there in person to witness that. It was a quick kick though. He was out of his depth at the college level, but he could recruit really well. I wish someone more knowledgeable than me could list up some of his top recruits. Anthony Bridges?
  8. Was not aware of Corky Nelson's interest and NTSU hiring Tyler instead. Good grief what a stupid decision or perhaps intentional sabotage. Despite Corky's demons, he could recruit in Texas and his potential to win against a big-time opponent was very real. I was a student at UNT when Dennis Parker was hired & his name is mostly what I heard on campus from other students during the search process. Dennis Parker was a H.S. coach from Marshall, TX as I recall. I don't remember Nick Saban being mentioned back then nor reading his name in the NT Daily. Parker could recruit Texas for sure and NT didn't want to pay a real coach's salary back then. But Nick Saban. Dang.
  9. North Texas finished against Tulsa very strongly. We can win against UAB today.
  10. The ESPN radio show for Univ. of KY basketball said last week that Norman, OK is the new Starkville of the SEC for basketball game day experience. They said that even with $1 beer and hotdogs, OU couldn't entice a descent crowd against the Wildcats and one fan even threw a full beer can at a player. UK had enough fans to make it sound like a home game. Even OU is struggling to get it right. I attended UNT/OU football game in 1991 & that it was an excellent experience, however. The OU fans were welcoming and hospitable so maybe it's just basketball. Also, Wren lives in West Virginia now. I can't name one good reason to live in WV & I live next door in KY. Denton is a far better place. Money isn't going to fix the flaws there either. Perhaps he can move on to a better place one day and that is his plan.
  11. Losing to UTSA at home is an atrocious loss for UNT. This team could have maybe cracked the top 25 and now UNT has to win the AAC to get into the NCAA tourny. Up here in KY, when UK loses games like this there is hell to pay for the head coach. And I mean hell. Losing at basketball isn't tolerated here and NT should take the same stance. We have tolerated losing for too long. I don't accept this loss. Inexcusable to lose to a 9-11 team at home on a Saturday night. Just ridiculous.
  12. Thanks for sharing, Ross. Wish I lived in Denton instead of 800 miles away!
  13. Heard stories back in the 80s (I was a student at NTSU) about SWC officials and some verifiable direct evidence in 1988. But the officiating looked okay to me in the 78 UT/NTSU game. UT got called for a face mask and Unec roughness calls at key moments of the game. UT's defense looked really good. They were big and physical. NTSU's kicking game really sucked. There were some less than 30 yard punts and a missed (very short) FG in the '78 game. Really liked to see the NTSU cheerleaders so fired up on the sideline. Just wow. Thanks for sharing NT80.
  14. Roth IRAs are good in that your investment gains are not taxable when withdrawn later. But you can only contribute $8,000/year max. A 401K is $30,000/year max. 401K plans are typically not run well with only average offerings and high fees. But private sector employees have little else to save and invest in for retirement. If an employer offers nothing, then what does that say about an employer? How much the employer spends on a 401K plan is public record. They spend surprisingly little. College football money has been manipulated in a similar way, with coaches & ADs receiving outsized salaries while players received little. This imbalance is the reason college football is in its current state.
  15. And I have worked for companies that don't offer even a 401K, much less a pension! I would think that no 401K is very uncommon in the DFW metroplex. Yes, I call it the ZERO 1K. And I was a corporate level manager at one time with nothing! The job market is definitely broken here in KY (I still have no 401K) but at least you can readily find employment with a 401K plan down there to help build retirement funds tax free. I do think the employer owes the employee a 401K at a minimum for being allowed to operate in the world's only super power country. That same working model is what was happening in college football though. Offer the players almost nothing until the system self-destructs. And here we are, an oligarchy type college football system unfolding. Even SMU $$ can't crack this system now. For the record, I think SMU is a very good school.
