  1. Mack Brown coached at OU. Think he met a few Texas high school coaches while he was recruiting for the Sooners? Brown also coached at Tulane and LSU, where he probably made some Texas connections. (Of course, Brown, like Nix began his coaching career at Southern Miss ).
  2. The only way I could accept this guy with no Texas ties is if he brought that South Carolina-style offense with him. I wonder what type of offense he prefers?
  3. Tony Samuel? He couldn't even beat Darrell Dickey. Spencer Leftwich -- I would be interested in RV interviewing him. Tim Billings -- He has a 23-34 overall record at Southeast Missouri. I would rather have UNT sign Ramon Flanigan to a lifetime contract than hire that guy.
  4. Why am I immature? Isn't your avatar of a woman football player? If you are a woman, might you have a boyfriend who could be stolen from you by a Tx qb? Dodge should be a legitimate candidate. Applewhite is a stud, but I would prefer he have more experience before he was the head coach at my alma mater. Who are these more qualified candidates you speak of?
  5. Man, The Fake Lonnie Finch! What do you have against Texas quarterbacks? Did one of them steal your boyfriend?
  6. Good luck finding that. UNT is a stepping stone job and I have no problem with a coach who sees us that way. There is not a non-BCS coach out there who wouldn't cut the throat of his current school to jump on at the right BCS job. Let's find someone who is on their way up and grab on for the ride.
  7. Hey, even the devil can quote scripture to suit his own purposes. Major Applewhite is a stud. He was just the QB coach at Syracuse. I don't know if you can blame their record on him.
  8. How old is Jon Daniels, the Rangers GM? How old was Theo Epstein when the Red Sox won the World Series? Give me a young genius over an experienced knucklehead any day of the week. UNT is in a position where we should look at high-risk high-reward candidates.
  9. posted this on another thread... Applewhite has been the starting quarterback at Texas. A grad assistant there, the qb coach at Syracuse and the offensive coordinator at San Jose State and Rice. He's packed a lot of experience in his 28 years. If Pat Fitzgerald at 33 can be the head coach at Northwestern in the Big 10 then Major might deserve an interview for the gig at UNT in the Sun Belt. It is a high-risk high-reward option.

  11. No way anyone leaves Navy for UNT. I do like Johnson's offense, though. He makes running the ball exciting.
  12. I heard the opposite about Dykes. I heard he is a great guy. I like both of these prospects and Todd Dodge or even Major Applewhite.
  13. Is it a big surprisde that the Objective Aggie does not support former UT quartberback Major Applewhite? Who should we hire then, Corey Pullig? Reggie McNeal?
  14. Prediction: George Dunham will be the next play-by-play voice of the Dallas Cowboys. He is that good at what he does. He is one of the best college play-by-play guys in the country.
  15. I hope Darrell lives off the free money he will be getting from UNT for the next couple of years and then when his health gets a little better makes a triumphant return to coaching in a conference a long way from here.
  16. Give me a coach who is on his way up (Dodge, Dykes) over a coach who is on his way down (Slocum).
  17. I bet Todd Dodge would leave Carroll for UNT even if we just offered him even money to what he is making now. There are only about 119 Division 1-A head coaching jobs. That is a pretty prestigious gig. But, like the blog said, at UNT his salary would atleast be doubled and probably tripled if he came here. He's only making $90,000 a year at Carroll. We CERTAINLY CAN afford him.
  18. The team wasn't very good when he was there, (I think they went 8-14 in his two seasons) but that was 15 years ago. He was barely out of college. The guy has grown tremendously as a coach since then.
  19. This guy has no ties to the state of Texas, which for me, means he is not a candidate.
  20. Dodge was the offensive coordinator for two years at UNT!!! Does that not qualify him as a college coach? Since then he's just gone on to be the most dominant high school coach in the history of the world! Texas high school football is every bit, if not more, competitive than the Sun Belt conference. Of course, the talent level is less, but the pressure and committment required by coaches to build a winning program is the same. I don't want to get stuck with the Southern Miss laundry coordinator as our new coach. Todd Dodge is a "swing for the fences" type pick for UNT. He finished his high school playing career as the state's all-time leading passer and was the starting quarterback at the University of Texas. This guy is just a winner. Don't you want somebody like that on your team? Here is an interesting interview with him ... http://www.scholastic.com/coach/article.asp?ItemID=291
  21. Dodge was a pretty successful coach at Carrollton Newman Smith (which is not a big budget, single school district program) before he took over at Southlake Carroll. The guy is an offensive guru. He has college coaching experience (at UNT!). He has a name that would be recognized in every high school in the state. He has produced maybe the most dominant dynasty in high school football history. He is the cure for what ails us.
  22. From the Belo Blog... Advice for the Mean Green The North Texas football program has been in a steady decline since I left Denton, resulting in today's announcement that coach Darrell Dickey will not return. The Mean Green obviously misses me pointing the program in the right direction, so here I come to save the day. Hire Todd Dodge away from Southlake Carroll. Yes, hire a high school coach. So what if Dennis Parker didn't work out so well in the 1990s? Dodge, an ex-Texas QB whose team has lost once in the last five seasons, is an offensive whiz kid who would put points on the board and butts in the seats. Dodge, whose hiring would create a huge buzz for UNT, would immediately make the Mean Green more attractive in the eyes of recruits. QBs and WRs will want to play for him. I think it's safe to say he'd have an inside track on the loaded junior class at Carroll, including his QB son, Riley. A couple of dudes I've talked to shot my theory down by saying Dodge wouldn't want to go to UNT. He won't leave Carroll until Riley graduates, they figured. Hogwash, especially if they live their dream by going undefeated this season. And money talks. UNT ought to be able to nearly triple Dodge's salary. It'd be a wise investment.
  23. I'm not interested in a date with the new coach, silly. More like just a one-night stand.
  24. RV pulled out his 12-pounder and did what many of us predicted he wouldn't be able to! It's time for this program to go in a new direction and RV made it happen. But in my book Dickey is still a first-ballot UNT athletic hall-of-famer. Thanks for the 4 Sun Belt titles, the New Orleans Bowl win and victories over Baylor, Tx Tech and SMU! Those were awesome.
  25. Now that Dickey and staff are lame ducks how bad will they mail in these last three games?
