  1. You must not have read the original post. I am criticizing Dodge for NOT giving Vito an EQUAL shot at breaking news. Handling the media is a big part of the CEO of our football team's job. Guys like Mack Brown and Bob Stoops are loved by their local media and they are masters at handling them. I am a big fan of Dodge, but he is not beyond criticism. He is really screwing himself and the program by making enemies at The Dallas Morning News/Belo.
  2. Do you think it is in UNT's best interest to get media exposure? When Dodge freezes out Vito it pisses off The Dallas Morning News editors. Those editors help determine how many and what stories are written about UNT football and where those stories are placed in the paper and on the website. So if it is lame to worry about the media exposure of our football team then consider me lame.
  3. Dodge and UNT are completely screwing Vito and the Belo newspapers. Vito is there on the scene working hard every day asking questions but the Star-Telegram has broken almost every major story of the Dodge regime. The Star-Telegram writer is only part-time on the UNT beat, but Dodge is purposelly going around Vito to break stories through the Star-Telegram. Vito was out of town with the basketball team when Mendoza was fired, but that is a HUGE story for the UNT beat. At the very least, the UNT sports information director should have contacted Vito and given him a "heads up" that the firing was happening, but that didn't happen. So the Star-Telegram had the Mendoza firing a full day before the Belo papers and Vito was left looking bad. And I guarantee the Star-Telegram did not have a reporter out there digging for this story. No, a rep from UNT called the Star-Telegram and gave them the story while freezing out Vito and the Belo papers. Plus, Vito tried to verify Tina Yother's report on the defensive backs coach, but he got a denial. Then the next day the Star-Telegram had the story. Plus, Dodge does not let Vito talk to the assistant coaches, but I have seen quotes from assistant coaches, including Mendoza last season, in stories by the Star-Telegram. Todd Dodge is a lot of good things, but he is not treating Vito and the readers of the Belo papers fairly.
  4. If MacDuff couldn't coach defense with the 4-star athletes Texas has, how is he going to do with the 1-and-2 star Darrell Dickey retreads we're going to be rolling out next season? I'd rather have a coach on his way up than someone who has already been to the top of the mountain and proven they can't handle the altitude.
  5. NAIA and smaller division schools like Sul Ross State allow players to resume their eligibility after a layoff. NCAA Division IA or whatever the hell it calls itself gives you 5 years to play 4 seasons.
  6. Is this really about racism? It sounds like you are looking for validation that your parents are awful people. If you are going to keep writing personal posts like this, please stop trying to thinly veil them as having to do with either football or UNT, as those are both topics that interest me and you whining about your life is not. I'd like to (again) redirect you to some sort of Dr. Phil forum. Or maybe a licensed mental health professional. This isn't the free therapy board, dude. Buy a Larry Winget book and suck it up.
  7. Racism exists because millions of years of evolution have programmed the human animal to favor tribalism. In the past, an easy way to separate between your tribe and other tribes (thus indicating who is safe for you to be around) was by looking at the color of skin. As our society becomes more and more sophisticated, racism will be replaced by more complex tribal indicators such as "does this person shop at WAL-MART or Whole Foods?", "Did this person go to UNT or not even graduate high school," "Does this person go to Church or not believe in God?" Etc... Of course racism still exists, but our society is well on its way towards eliminating it. Tribalism, however, is here to stay.
  8. Have you ever seen the Zach Galifianakis bit about the guy who talks about the Garfield movie too much? A bunch of you are the guys who use the word "douche" too much. It's like this is PeeWee's Playhouse and everyone is supposed to scream and run around every time someone posts the word "douche". Feel free to call me a "douche" for pointing this out.
  9. Not going to happen. That's like asking a fat, rich king with a large harem to give up his power and install a democracy. Why would he do that?
  10. Maybe. Or maybe it's a really weird plea for attention. Shrug.
  11. Because those are debatable, whereas this one was just uncomfortable. It's like Michael Scott fan fiction.
  12. Really? I took it to mean sports that don't have to do with UNT. Potato, po-tat-o. And if you are using a douche a week, I'd consider seeing a doctor.
  13. .... I guess it is a good thing you are so bad at committing suicide. This is a sports message board, dude. Take these kind of postings to the Dr. Phil forum. Go Mean Green!
  14. I used to love the Hammer. But his pop culture references became as out of date as his drug habits. Corby is a much better sidekick for Rhyner as he appeals to the younger side of The Ticket's target market. Too bad Rhyner is grandfathered in because BAD RADIO would sure sound good in afternoon drive.
  15. We should not waste another ship on a quarterback when we already have Vizza and Riley. We are already carrying enough dead weight at that position. Hopefully, some of our back-up quarterbacks will find a better home somewhere else and free up some scholarships for some d-linemen (if we can convince any to sign with us).
  16. Give me James Hamilton over Derek Tomlin any day of the week. Best of luck to Tomlin.
  17. I'm sure Derek Tomlin is a smart, hardworking kid but I saw almost every Southlake game the last two seasons and I do not see him as an above-average player at the next level. He always seemed to me to be the type of player Ramon Flanigan could have recruited, not an elite athlete who could help win a Sun Belt title. I know why Dodge recruited him (intangibles), but I was hoping the new coach could do better than picking up committments from undersized overachievers who usually don't pan out (I prefer committments from oversized overachievers). I wish Tomlin the best (although I do not see him signing with a higher profile school) and am glad Dodge has an extra ship to hand out.
  18. Kevin Galbreath, Darrell Daniels, Michael Pruitt, Aaron Weathers... some of our best players in recent years have been JUCOs. We should not build the program around JUCOs, but we should be smart and use them to fill immediate holes. We badly need some JUCO defensive linemen in this upcoming recruiting class.
  19. Your logic is taking some pretty big leaps there. But... Baylor will never win the Big 12. Not in a million years. Yes, they should quit the Big 12. And since you asked... In my opinion, UNT will not win a national championship in football in my lifetime. But that is not the point, we can crack the top 25 and consistently challenge for the Sun Belt title. Through smarter scheduling and some leaps in conference affiliation UNT could enjoy the same level of success TCU has been enjoying in their Franchione/Patterson era. Consistently playing against teams with bigger fan bases and more resources is a recipe for disaster for Baylor. And no coach can win in the Big 12 there. Name one private school in a small media market that challenges for the championship in a BCS conference...
  20. Jonas Buckles didn't run any faster than a 4.6. If he did, he would be playing on Sundays. These days, by the time an athlete is finished with his senior year of high school he is about as fast as he is going to get. Athletes can get a lot stronger by participating in a college training program, but not much faster.
  21. Briles better enjoy the higher salary while it lasts because taking over the Baylor football team is career suicide. Baylor will never win in football in the Big 12. They just don't have the resources to compete with the Oklahoma's, the UT's and the Texas A&M's. Oh sure, they may pull off an upset every couple of years but Baylor will always be an also-ran/doormat in the Big 12. They should just stick with women's basketball and baseball. Briles should have waited for Leach to jump ship at Texas Tech.
  22. And Jonas Buckles has turned into the greatest NFL safety since Ronnie Lott, right?
  23. Can I have the last four hours of my life back?
  24. RunON MENDOZA. Thanks folks I'll be here all week. Bring on a real college defensive coordinator! And good luck to RunON MENDOZA. I hope his team wins the district championship next year.
  25. Dream on. Phil Bennett isn't coming here to be our DC. He can be a DC in a BCS conference any time he wants to. Mendoza needs to go back to high school though. That was pathetic. Our D-line lacks talent but they aren't as bad as they played tonight. That defensive showing made me throw up in my mouth and swallow it.
