  1. The Justin Willis era at SMU is OVER. Too bad for him, he showed so much promise at Denton Ryan and as a college freshman. But I guess beating up gay people, fathering out of wedlock babies with girls he met at church and skipping study hall is more fun than being a Division IA quarterback. I was pretty disappointed Dickey failed to land this guy, atleast one good thing has come of Darrell being such a lazy recruiter. June Jones must have been looking for someone to make an example of and he had his perfect fall guy in Willis: an overhyped "star" with a bad attitude who didn't really fit into his system. There was a reason Jones signed 3 QBs in his first recruiting class.
  2. This is old news. This is like someone posting on the TCU board that Cougar McBride beat up a student in front of the UNT library.
  3. Every year we lose players of varying degrees of talent because of grades, homesickness, issues with playing time, issues with motivation, etc. All teams do. I do not have any inside info, but it seems that nautique and kbj do and the names above are the rumored candidates to be leaving the team for whatever reason.
  4. Nautique has officially achieved "Enlightened Insider" status!!! Keep the inside info coming Nautique, I congratulate you on breaking news first.
  5. Since everybody got their panties in a wad when I pointed out Todd Dodge's problems recruiting defensive tackles, it is only fair to point out that Marquay Love, who just got cut by Bill Parcells, ditched UNT and Darrell Dickey at the last second in favor of Cougar High, where he had a pretty solid college career... Oh what might have been...
  6. Banks is just another player who failed to live up to his potential. His scholarship was being wasted and hopefully Todd Dodge can find someone more deserving to give it to.
  7. Dodge did not start Riley at QB at SLC until his junior season. Chase Daniel was the starting QB Riley's freshman year and Greg McElroy handled the job when Riley was a sophomore. Todd Dodge will play the best player. Considering all factors, it makes sense that Riley would redshirt this season. In 2009, we could be looking at a two-headed quarterback like Florida used with Chris Leak and Tim Tebow. That seemed to work out well.
  8. Buckels was a player at LSU while Rick Villareal was coaching there. I wonder what role RV played in influencing this hire? At any rate, from what I hear this guy was brought on board to carry a heavy portion of the recruiting load. He has a lot of recruiting experience, but no ties to Texas. His concentration was in Mississippi and Louisiana. Dodge has the Texas high school coaches wrapped around his finger so it seems smart to bring on someone else who can reel 'em in from outside the Lone Star State.
  9. And that makes it OK?
  10. Do rapists knowingly hurt innocent people? Do murderers knowingly kill innocent people? Do "under the influence" drivers knowingly get behind the wheel of a vehicle and hurt and kill innocent people? The answer to all three questions is YES. Thus I have a valid comparison.
  11. Do you defend rapists and murderers, too? How would you feel if an "under the influence" driver killed someone you loved?
  12. Neither has OJ. Actually OJ got convicted of pirating DirecTV in 2005.
  13. I disagree. He is one of the few players who represent UNT in the NFL. Good thing we have guys like Brian Waters to make up for this embarrassment. Shame on you Adrian Awasom.

  15. Pretty amazing that he couldn't even get a head coaching job in high school. Yikes.
  16. The weird thing about this SMU recruiting class is how "national" the recruits are. Reading on PonyFans, the Mustangs are going after kids from New Jersey to California. Jones keeps talking about recruiting Dallas, but that is not being reflected in the kids he is bringing in to visit. My guess is he got such a late start in recruiting for SMU that he decided to focus on the kids he was trying to bring to Hawaii instead of DFW recruits.
  17. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...on.2dfef03.html We know that Dodge and the rest of college coaches are guilty of this, too, but I'm glad SMU really looks like the bad guy here. It is even worse for SMU because this happened to a minority athlete. It is hard enough to recruit minority athletes there in the first place (why would a minority athlete want to go to a school with such a small percentage of minorities enrolled? UNT, on the other hand, is a diversity wonderland with a thriving minority community.) Haha SMU!
  18. Does this mean the last time you had wild anonymous anal sex was in 2005? Why the three-year hiatus?
  19. Do you realize how bad our defensive line was last season? Only Chapman and Gilmore had any business being on a Division IA roster. It was a miracle we even won a game with the cast of Lone Star Conference-caliber players we shuffled out there. If you can suddenly (of course Perry would have to sit out a year) put a holeplugging/pass rushing superstar like Perry in the middle of our defense, it improves not only that one position, but suddenly our defensive ends are not getting double teamed and can provide a pass rush, our linebackers no longer have to fight off as many blockers and our secondary only has to cover their man for three seconds versus five. Sorry quarterbacks, but defensive line is the most important position on the football field. Also, we were getting votes for the Top 25 at the height of the Dickey regime. If you could combine a Deloach-caliber defense that those teams had with a Dodge offense that reaches its potential the Top 25 is VERY REALISTIC. We will NEVER win a national title (atleast under the current BCS system), but we can reasonably hope to crack the Top 25 in two years if Dodge can land Perry.
  20. The Gang Green defense might be returning soon. We're getting Deloach back, now it appears we could have our "Brandon Kennedy" back too. A dominant defensive lineman is the quickest route to a dominating defense. Imagine if we could combine our early 2000s defenses with a Todd Dodge offense... can you say Top 25? Chris Perry come on down! You are the missing ingredient at UNT. At Miami, Perry was just another stud, at UNT he can be a savior... the next Mean Joe Greene.
  21. I guess we can't do it since we already backed out on one team for that same date. If we backed out again teams would be reluctant to schedule us for payday games. It is too bad because I would love to be able to take advantage of the Red Raiders' desperation.
  22. Tulsa could afford to buyout Tech this late so why couldn't we buyout LSU? Hopefully, the revenue generated from a future game at Fouts vs. Tech would be enough to pay for the buyout. Plus, Tech has to be desperate to schedule another I-A team so we could jack up our rates to help offset the buyout.
  23. Texas Tech just got stood up by Tulsa for their 2008 season opener: From the DMN: "Texas Tech has started searching for a 2008 season-opening opponent for a game on Aug. 30 after Tulsa informed Tech athletic director Gerald Myers that it was terminating a two-year contract between the two schools. Tulsa has left Tech with less than eight months to find a replacement opponent for its season opener. Tech is trying to avoid playing another Division I-AA team in 2008." We are scheduled to play LSU on Aug. 30th. Since Tech is in such a bind should we back out on the defending national champions if we can get the Red Raiders to agree to a home-and-home series with them coming to Fouts? It is a long shot since RV would not want to burn bridges with his LSU buddies, but business is business and a 2009 home date at Fouts with Tech as a drawing card would be much better for UNT than one big payday and arse-whooping from LSU to start next season. Thoughts...
  24. Those guys were talented, but Deloach was able to put them in position to make plays and get the most out of them... something Mendoza failed to do. As good as the above players were at North Texas, none have become NFL stars. Deloach deserves ALOT of credit for how good those UNT defenses were.
  25. Vito is a good journalist and breaking this story took hustle. But he still did not get cooperation from Dodge or UNT on the story (which was the point of my earlier post). Vito even had to use the statement Dodge released to the public through meangreensports.com for a quote from the coach. Vito covers the beat harder than the FWST writer, which is why it is unfair that Dodge tries to sabotage him by leaking the news he wants to get out through the FWST and excluding Belo.
