Interesting difference between Ross and Eric Morris: Ross’ best player struggles all game, Ross designs a play for him to redeem himself at the buzzer, we win. Morris’ best player, DT Sheffield, struggles all game vs. East Carolina, Morris sits him first three plays of final drive (what?!) then puts him in on 4th down and he is no factor: we lose.

The team is 5-1 with wins against Minnesota and Oregon State. Ross knows what he is doing. Experienced guards win college basketball games. There is no incentive to develop players at North Texas anymore. Either these young guys are good enough to crack the 8/9 man rotation or they are not. If you start playing more guys than that then your BEST players get pissed about their playing time and that can mess with their effort and winning chemistry. Christian Moore had several years to crack the regular rotation here and couldn’t do it. Ross sees Vice in practice every day. If he helped us win more than Sissoko or Newell, I guarantee he would be playing. As for Layne Taylor, if Ross offered him, he must be good. But he is putting up points on a lower level 2-4 team that lost to BYU and Utah by 40 points each. If he keeps playing well and knows how to hustle on defense, he might get promoted to the big leagues in Denton for his junior and senior seasons.

I’m not a band expert, but I think the band is great. I especially like how many of them there are. Makes the stadium look better and their family and friends provide great support and attendance. Let’s grow the band even more!

With what money? All the extra NIL money that is laying around? Are you going to finance his buyout? I’d rather keep Morris and have them put my $ towards a new defensive tackle.

I don’t think we have very many players that other teams want. Obviously Chandler Morris. But his stock is not near as high as it was. DT Sheffield will certainly get offers for more than we can pay him, but NO ONE is breaking the bank for a 5’8 slot receiver. Now, if Sheffield was 6’1, could play outside and was this productive he’d be backing up the money truck. Our freshman center will get offers, but not as many as he would get if he waited another year. And on defense? Take ‘em.

We just beat a Big 10 team on the road. That’s a home run around these parts. And anyone who has spent any time watching the men’s basketball program knows that Ross is a home run hire.

I don’t get it.

I checked the timeline and the math works out. Mosley was tweeting about stuff unrelated to UNT athletics during the game. Should everyone just stay home and look at X instead of coming to North Texas football games? We need people, including and especially YOU, paying attention during our football games, Jared. Not a good look, Mosley. Do better. I will also say that I still support Mosley and believe he is doing a good job. Both basketball hires were homeruns and the football hire can still work out. But maybe get off social media during our games? What are you, a teenage girl?

If he can finish the season with 2 wins: I think it is a successful year and gives momentum for the future. Beat Temple then lose a bowl game: that is pretty Old Denton. And just like, how things go around here. Lose to Temple: I’m very discouraged, but still gonna cheer for him because we don’t have the money to fire him. And life is too short to hate the things you love when you can’t do anything to change it.

Is this true? No way.

Why should we care much about high school recruits anymore? I would focus on recruiting Sun Belt/CUSA, D2, D3, JUCO and NAIA STUDS. Guys who have proven themselves at a higher level. Along with some P4 drop downs who have also gotten reps but have suffered a setback and are looking for an opportunity to make an impact. There is no reason to develop a high school player anymore. If a high school player is ready to step on the field and compete NOW, let’s get him. Until the rules change or our NIL gets to a level where we can hang on to good guys for multiple seasons (which will probably be never) then team-building is year-to-year proposition. Get the guys who have reps at higher levels and have spent time in college weight programs. We will get poached by the schools higher in the current food chain than us, we need to be doing the same to the schools below us. That is just how it is right now and if we can properly identify and acquire that available talent, we can win. Both of our basketball teams have successfully done this.

I was ready to move on from Seth, but this is looking like it is below the standard Seth set.

DT Sheffield has been having a great year: 62 receptions, 775 yards receiving, 10 receiving touchdowns, one rushing touchdown. But today… He had a horrible fumble that likely caused a 14-point swing in the final score. He dropped an easy, wide open pass with nothing but green turf in front of him that would have been an easy touchdown. Then, on the final drive of the game, with the season potentially on the line, Sheffield is on the sidelines for first down, second down and third down. Goes into the game on fourth down and is no factor. Does Eric Morris not have enough faith in his best player to allow him to work through his mistakes? Or is DT Sheffield just a transfer portal knucklehead who can’t be trusted?

Texas Wesleyan is one of those athlete mill schools that take advantage of kids/parents who really want to be a college athlete. The majority of students at the school are athletes and the teams will take almost anyone to be on the roster as long as they can qualify for an overpriced college loan to afford the tuition.

I don’t mind a local bowl game that is inexpensive to attend in person. Now, if we were having a 9 or 10-win season and really deserved something better that would be different. But it is not. Frisco is fine for this season.

Morris is still in good shape. His team is fun to watch and he just posted one of the highest attended games in program history. He also has a chance to win a bowl game. Something that hasn’t happened here in too long. All he has to do is get the defense to slightly above average and we have a legitimate conference contender and excitement heading into next season.

Fantastic win. Incredible effort on defense. Will be fun getting to know these players.

Why is it so hard to get a decent team to The Pit? I love UNT basketball but c’mon, Texas Wesleyan is an embarrassment. Think there are DFW high school teams that can beat Texas Wesleyan. Hard to motivate myself for a 2 hour round trip drive for that matchup.

Army is an incredibly classy program and playing them and having them in the conference is a powerful boost to the credibility of OUR program. I’ve been to 99% of the games at DATCU and that is the best that stadium has ever looked. It is also impressive how, after the game, Army comes to our side and stands at attention for the playing of our school song. That type of respect for others is missing in our society now. I wanted Army to lose against us, but I will be rooting for them the rest of the season.

If this isn’t a sellout, then we may never sellout DATCU. We’re having a great season. Exciting offense with star QB. Record enrollment. Playing a BRAND NAME school with huge following that is nationally ranked. I, personally, bought 13 tickets and invited friends. Will be disappointed if this isn’t a sellout.

I would. Jamario had one magical season and other productive seasons. Chandler Rogers was here for one year. Did pretty good then left and the guy who replaced him is WAY better. That is not HOF stuff.

Anyone would benefit by watching Tony Robbins tapes.

The school we just lost to is underwritten by FedEx. Gonna take a LOT of “UNT average Joe’s” throwing in $100 “here and there” to compete with that. With that being said, I do contribute a recurring monthly donation towards NIL. Our NIL is not going to be enough to keep Chandler Morris or DT Sheffield from playing in the P4 next season, but it might be enough to find their replacements in the Sun Belt or CUSA.
