Comparing a walk-on running back who has been impressive in spring drills to a player who won a national rushing championship is a little silly. Evans might be quicker than our 2nd and 3rd string linebackers, but is he gonna rush for more than 200 yards against Colorado? Also, James Mitchell averaged 5.2 yards a carry for his career and rushed for more than 100 yards in his only start. In my opinion, Mitchell was better than Byrd (and none of these current guys could beat out Byrd), he just didn't get on the field much because he always had a national rushing champion in front of him. I don't remember much about Moore except that he was a pretty hyped recruit for the Dickey-era who never made much of an on-field contribution. Our 2004 running backs were way better and deeper than what we have now. If you wanted to make the argument that our current offensive line is our best ever, I might agree with you.

Someday UNT will have an all-conference level QB (maybe even just 3rd team) and we will all laugh about the above statement being true at one time.

Having had three ACL surgeries myself, I can tell you we are expecting a lot to expect Pegram to be 100% by Fall. Likely he will be 85-90%. I know some athletes come back within six months of that injury, but unless they are Adrian Peterson and shooting up gallons of HGH they are not near their old self until 18 months out from surgery. I expect a rotation of Jimmerson/Lewis/Ivery. Lewis is my pick for breakout player of 2014.

I would much rather watch almost any game at home than go to it. I control the event at home. I can DVR it and I can watch it in two hours. I can press pause and go in the backyard and pitch batting practice to my kids. I don't have to spend an hour driving there and an hour back. UNT games are an exception because I went to school there and have so much nostalgia for Denton and have an ownership in the product more than any pro team I root for. But I see attendance at any live event going down, especially as the population ages.

Notice that Florence did not comment on the kid's character, only his ability and his need to make good decisions. Usually if a kid is a good kid that is the first thing his high school coach will say about him... I like that we are taking a chance on this kid.

How many football teams will this dangerous plant have to destroy before our country takes it seriously?

Parker and Simon had a recruiting advantage over later UNT coaches in that they could immediately play D1 transfers without them sitting out a year. We will see how UTSA does now that they have to play by the same transfer rules as everyone else.

Is "volume" not a reference to the amount of weight being lifted?

The 2010 class had just one winning season and never won a conference championship. If I could choose which career I could have as a college player, I would take the career of the class of 2000 over the career of the 2010 class.

Actually, I counted 7 all conference players from Dickey's 2000 class that included Brandon Kennedy. So I would give the nod to 2000, but it is close.

Wow! Dodge's 2010 class featured six all-conference players and another player who made the NFL. That was as good a class as I have ever seen in my almost 20 years following the program.

High school coaches understand that only the elite of the elite recruits would interest Texas or A&M, but they all think they have 3-4 kids every year that UNT should be recruiting.

This has qualifying issue written all over it. If he were hurt enough to cause a greyshirt he probably wouldn't be the leading scorer on his basketball team right now. Late qualifiers are a great way for us to acquire talent.

Even schools like Texas and Alabama have kids choose to go elsewhere. Atleast it wasn't Houston. X has a chance to be good, but he is not the reincarnation of Booger Kennedy. I still love this class.

Let's be honest, if X was the second coming of Jadeveon Clowney he wouldn't be choosing between Northwestern, UNT and UH. Best case scenario X is Aaron Bellazin, a pretty dang good college football player. Everyone here just knows who X is because he played on TV and won a state title. If X wants to come here: fantastic. I would love to cheer for him. If not, I hope he has a great experience somewhere else. But it won't be the end of the world for UNT. I trust Mac to develop whoever takes our last scholarship.

Whether or not DT plays pro football has no impact on how good he was at UNT. Does it make Brandon Kennedy any less of a college player because he never made it in the NFL?

This kid has never been on a football field where he wasn't the biggest, strongest and fastest kid out there. BIG jump up in level of competition for this kid. I have watched a lot of Class 2A football and it can be a joke. I like that we are looking under rocks for these kind of athletes. Don't expect to see this kid on the field soon and wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at LB or safety.

The quarterback doesn't have to be Ivan Drago in the weight room, but he does have to give good effort. It does not seem like DW is doing that (and the other freshmen in the program seem to be doing just fine.). If this kid isn't giving effort in the weight room it would be likely he isn't giving effort somewhere else... on the practice field, the film room, the classroom? Doesn't sound like he is working like a Mac or Coach C QB. And I love these offseason public workout evaluations. It holds the players accountable, motivates them and puts pressure on them to perform.

You can find a starting fullback at any walk-on tryout. Or move a linebacker who is too slow to fullback. Our fullback is rarely utilized. I would rather see us award a scholarship to another position.

Has about as much experience playing QB in high school as Andrew McNulty did...

All I care about is how many other offers did the kid have and from who. Who cares how many stars some goofy Internet journalist who probably didn't even play junior high football gives a recruit? And unlike any coach we have had here in my 20 years following UNT, I trust Mac to identify and develop talent. This is a freaking fantastic high school recruiting class.

So reading about a recruit coming to UNT in The Dallas Morning News is perfectly legit, but reading about the same recruit coming to UNT on Twitter is creepy? That is not logical. Come join us in 2014. I saved a seat for you.

I disagree.

In that spirit, isn't it also creepy that we pay and spend so much time watching these same young men run around and bump into each other? And isn't it kind of odd and weird to take the time to post and read messages on a college football message board? I like football. I probably should be spending my free time studying the Bible or learning a foreign language, but instead I spend a lot of time watching football, reading about football, following recruiting, etc. And if I can get an insight into a stud recruit's college decision by following his Twitter, I will do that. And since I do that, I know that while Xavier Washington spent his evening at Dave & Busters on a recruiting trip to Houston, Tee Goree spent part of his UNT recruiting trip at a party at The Forums (Apartment 7102). Which school's recruits probably had a better time?
