Kade Renfro being actively recruited to Michigan State?
MeanGreenZen replied to MootPoint's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
All you guys being critical of schools telling Renfro they “may” have an offer for him knows that NT is also telling other QB recruits the same thing, right? I would love to have Renfro. If he chooses someone else, I’ll be excited about Seth’s next man up. -
‘19 RB Garrison Johnson (Manvel)
MeanGreenZen replied to BTG_Fan1's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
If Garrison Johnson wasn’t going to sign with us tomorrow then he wasn’t going to sign with us in February. I know Coach Choice really wanted him and put a lot of work into building a great relationship with Johnson and his mother. The early signing day was time for Johnson to $&@* or get off the pot with us. I’m glad our coaches pressured him to sign early. That is the only leverage we had with him. Johnson has other options, but so will we. Better to know that he isn’t IN now so we can find someone else than getting ghosted in February when the alternatives have signed elsewhere. We need to move on. -

I think it would take a pretty unique situation to get Mason to grad transfer. It would have to be a national title contender. And how many of those are there, really? Maybe Kyler Murray goes to play baseball and Austin Kendall tears his ACL this spring? Most national title contenders have 4 or 5 star QBs with multiple seasons of eligibility left as backups. Even Mason’s original “dream school” of OK State has Spencer Sanders in line for their QB job. Why would a good P5 prefer one year of Mason Fine to the potential upside of it’s own younger highly-rated QBs. And why would he transfer to a P5 that doesn’t have a shot to win a national title? He already has a chance to play on TV and on the biggest stages in out of conference games. Heck, even at home games he is playing in front of large crowds. Plus, I would guess that he has relationships and loyalty towards teammates here that he would not want to betray. Most grad transfers switch schools for more playing time. When Russell Wilson left NC State it was rumored that it was because he had lost the starting job there. Also, many grad transfers don’t end up working out. They don’t even end up winning the starting job at their new school. I think Mason will finish his career at UNT and always be remembered as an all-time great.

I stayed home. Pouring rain, lightning and a tornado warning were happening when I would have needed to leave for the game. A tornado ended up hitting Waxahachie HS a few miles from my house. I wanted to be at the game but getting in the car and driving through that with my wife and kids would have been dumb. I regret nothing Wren Baker. Go Mean Green!

Blue parking at Apogee worth the extra $$
MeanGreenZen replied to Ken14's topic in Mean Green Football
They need two car lines in the blue lot. One for those who already have their blue tag and another for those paying cash. I pay extra to get that blue tag so I can park quickly. I had to wait in line 15 minutes last game while people paid cash and got change, etc. A logical person might not support the MGSF just to get the parking pass if all they have to do is pay cash on game day and they have the same parking experience either way. Plus, if you pay cash on game day, you don’t end up paying for parking to games you can’t attend like I am right now by making a donation to the MGSF to get a parking pass. Wren needs to protect the value of the parking pass and encourage supporting the MGSF by offering an express line to those of us with the blue tag. -
Austin Aune former Argyle Qb available?
MeanGreenZen replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
We also have to prepare for the nightmare scenario that Littrell gets an attractive P5 job (OK State?, TX Tech?) and Mason Fine follows him as a grad transfer. So far, the grad transfer thing has only benefitted us, but it could also burn us. Really, really hope it doesn’t happen. -
I don’t care how many other offers these recruits have as long as we keep landing in conference championships and bowl games.
-
You don’t think Littrell recruited well right out of the gate? He signed a kid who is now the best college quarterback in the state in his very first class!
-
He is pretty good, too. Article (from The Ringer) mentions his Mean Green football career. Looks like Nwigwe is about to be big-time! https://www.theringer.com/music/2018/4/23/17269458/tobe-nwigwe

Feb. 13, 2018 DENTON - In some respect, it's a good thing Kason Martin left Manvel when he did. The freshman quarterback enrolled early at UNT just two weeks after playing in one of the most talked about high school football games in history. He said he couldn't walk around town without people asking him about the game - the Class 5A Division I state championship game, which his team lost in heartbreaking fashion after coming up literally a yard short of winning as time expired. He figured with a relocation to Denton, he'd be able to walk around campus without people asking him about the game that was still weighing heavily on his mind. He was wrong. One of his first days in Denton found him eating in the cafeteria at his new dormitory when an upperclassman student-athlete came up to him. "Hey, you're that Manvel quarterback, right? I saw you in that game." "You've gotta be kidding me," Martin thought. read more: https://t.co/jMfbEE3n3G

Hope Y'all are ready to open up your wallets!

Doesn't demand have to go up for prices to go up? How can you raise prices when attendance is already not good? -
Athletic fee referendum to be put to a re-vote
MeanGreenZen replied to Skipper's topic in Mean Green Football
Sounds like the fee failed and the SGA members who support it passing are trying again. With voter turnout so low historically, if we can just get the student athletes themselves to vote for it then the fee has a good chance to pass. -
Wintrich was amazing. I LOVED his social media updates on how the players performed in his off-season program. So much accountability! I wish we still had access to that kind of information. Wintrich is a star.

And obviously not every scholarship can turn into an all-conference performer or starter. So a scholarship player who stays in the program, never gets in trouble, works hard, provides a body in practice and ultimately graduates, has value. The Dan Mac era certainly has many examples of scholarships that were misallocated worse than Means' was. I am rooting for Means to have a great senior year.

Do you know how many guys rush for 500 yards in high school? Very, very, very few of them deserve to ever see a carry in C-USA. I would love to see Connor Means turn into a playmaker his senior year. He is obviously a good student and teammate, but his production on the field so far is no better than what you could get from thousands of available walk-ons.

Hate on John Stephen Jones all you want. The kid just set the all-time 5A state title game passing record and notched his second straight state title. Look at his stats, look at his wins. He is now one of the all-time greatest high school QBs ever. He is a more polished version of Baker Mayfield/Johnny Football (a friend who works for the HP school district said he is A super nice kid too). And btw, Jerry drives me nuts. I wanted to hate on JSJ, but I have eyes and I see greatness. Kason Martin is BIG, can throw the ball a mile, is a great leader and demonstrated impressive maturity in his behavior after that loss. Martin's throws are also wild as hell and many of his yards are the result of throwing to superhumans with video game speed. But the raw tools are there for him to be special. Excited to watch him develop.

Jordan Redfearn Aubrey (Aubrey, TX)
MeanGreenZen replied to UNTMike81's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't think blueshirts actually sign anything. The lack of paperwork is one of the ways that football programs use blueshirting to "get around" the scholarship limitations. -
Early signing period expected signees
MeanGreenZen replied to BTG_Fan1's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Is it chess? Or is it poker? A committed kid who doesn't sign with us today should run the risk of losing his UNT scholarship to some other kid whose P5 scholarship fell through at the last minute. There are going to be a lot of kids who get left out who thought they were going P5. -
Early signing period expected signees
MeanGreenZen replied to BTG_Fan1's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Seems like coaches should make everyone sign today to guarantee their scholarship. Only reason a kid would wait is because they are holding out for some other offer. I agree with the idea of saving some ships for the traditional signing day for elite kids who fall through the cracks, but if you are committed to UNT you need to sign today or your scholarship may be given to someone else. -
DRC: Ennis safety high on UNT after visit to school
MeanGreenZen replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Hmmm... waiting until NSD? Wonder if he has qualified yet? -
I have a family obligation that is going to prevent me from watching the game live. I've noticed that ESPN3 sometimes posts replays of their games. Will there be a replay of North Texas/Rice? Are the replays available immediately? Or is there some kind of waiting period? I'm wondering if the replay will be available to watch tomorrow evening.
