Stud Center (Argyle) Commits To Santa Clara
MeanGreenZen replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Oak Cliff Faith Family is definitely cheating and the UIL needs to strike them down. -
That crowd was an embarrassment to all parties involved in that game.

The extra practice time mattered before the transfer portal. It is mostly meaningless now as half the roster will be bouncing after the season. If you aren’t in the playoff, it is better to finish up the bowl sooner so you can focus on recruiting your own players and start your own portal diving.

This is a FANTASTIC preview article. Who is the author Andy Hoops?

Those band parents SHOW UP which is why expanding the Green Brigade is one of the smartest things our school has done. I bet for every band kid, you average atleast two additional people (family members or student friends) who attend the game. Which is why I think we should add a Kilgore Rangerette style drill team. Add 100 drill teamers and you’d probably get 300 extra parents and boyfriends at every game. That is 400 extra people in the stands EVERY game.

No one is more disgusted by the portal/NIL than me, but North Texas didn’t invent those things. Our program is just playing under the rules we are given. Based on the early results, the portal was a net positive for this team. Don’t know if we can do that every year, but 4-1 is pretty damn fun. Come on back.

The AD should be selling shirts saying this or Mean Green 3:16. They would be best sellers. I don’t think any of those things are copyrighted so I don’t see what is stopping us.

Interesting that Harrell and Littrell coached offenses are both sucking this season. Must not be adapting very well to something that has changed recently in how their offense is defended.

He CAN be with your generous donation to the North Texas Collective.

Well, yeah. This is not breaking news.

And the bidding for Chandler Morris next season probably starts at $2M. Remember he actually beat out a guy who ended up being the Heisman runner-up a few years ago. My prediction is CM lands a deal for $3M+ at Auburn, which still has fond memories of his Dad and desperately needs a quarterback. But he may be the hottest free agent on the market next season. Which means our next guy should be pretty good too.

Mason Fine in THIS offense with HIS receivers would have resulted in a trip to NYC for the Heisman presentation. Not saying he would win, but that would have been a phenomenon. Now, what Morris is working with at receiver is not anywhere near what we were running out there with Fine: multiple guys who have had pretty decent runs in the NFL.

Scott Hall, Mitch Maher and Steve Ramsey would all be ranked miles above Derek Thompson, who was certainly solid.

Another of many indications that NIL is broken
MeanGreenZen replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
How embarrassing for this “NIL agent”. He didn’t get it in writing? Even I know that you have to get it in writing. And this kid spent four years at Holy Cross and didn’t learn that? Have to get rid of the redshirt rule. That is an unintended consequence of the NIL era. -

Like that Coach is going to admit to offering him $100K. You can’t enforce it if there is a denial that it was offered. You orally offered me $100K to reply to your post. Pay me. Let’s see the state of Texas enforce that oral agreement. -
I think this sums up NIL best for me
MeanGreenZen replied to Tommy Gadberry's topic in Mean Green Football
They are going to have to get rid of the redshirt rule. Redshirts are a relic of the past when programs needed to develop players. Why do you need to develop players when you can just find a developed player in the portal? You get four years to play college football and the clock starts when you step foot on campus. No medical redshirts either. If we are FOR inclusion, then this will give more opportunities to more players. -
Did we ever find out the real story of what these guys actually did to get in trouble?

Sonny Dykes?
MeanGreenZen replied to dodgefan's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Florida State has fallen farther in a shorter time than even Sonny Dykes and TCU. Not sure local fans are going to run to the Hilltop to see this version of Florida State. -
Well, he is Johnny Quinn. I would guess every other program in America gives out free tickets to people they are honoring at halftime.
-
Spanked? If spanked means Tech beat Arizona State by a touchdown… The same Arizona State team that BARELY beat Texas State But I agree that 4-1 is doable.
-
Running back is the easiest position to replace. We are currently 3-1 and starting a transfer walk-on wide receiver at running back. You can find a D1 running back on the roster of every high school in Denton. Let everyone else burn their NIL $ on running backs while we use ours more strategically.

Improving the Student Game Day Experience
MeanGreenZen replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, if you are saying that student support hasn’t been this good since the late 1960s then I am glad to hear it. -
It is essentially the same idea as the AD trying to get us to donate X dollars for every touchdown. We already do this. The money just goes to the athletic department instead of the collectives. Not a bad idea to have QR codes around the stadium or on the video boards to donate to the collective. I would also focus on getting people to sign up for recurring gifts instead of just a one-timer.

Also, I’ve been following this program closely for 30 years and the student support has NEVER been better. Last home game the student section was FULL and we have one of the biggest bands in the country. Can it be even better? Of course, but I give a lot of credit to the AD, Maniacs & Greeks for what they are doing with student attendance. It is making a difference. Now, if we can just get a higher proportion of our disconnected alumni plugged back in… then we will be rocking and rolling. -
Improving the Student Game Day Experience
MeanGreenZen replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, the student sports culture was way worse when we played at Fouts which was a lot closer to main campus. It is now an extra 10 minute walk across the bridge, this is not an acceptable obstacle.
