  1. Does anyone have any idea how much we make on a crowd of say 25,000. How many would we need to have to allow us to stay away from the body bag games. Looking at attendance figures some of you have listed, the best way to avoid having to play Texas, Alabama, etc is to be able to schedule schools from the Denton geographical area. I think this is the direction we need to work toward.
  2. According to ESPN radio, Kansas does not want to go to the MWC. They want to keep the remaining members and add some to make it a better basketball conference. I know this is a football posting, but maybe this would be something we should look at. Certainly right now our basketball (mens) is better than our football. We certainly could not contend with Kansas or Baylor right now, but a step up could help JJ. The schools are more regional and certainly have the names to draw attendance. What would we bring. A DFW metroplex presence, a decent basketball program, pretty good athletic programs in the other sports, good facilities, and hopefully a football program on the upturn. The big problem is always going to be the stablility of a new conference. Depending upon what else happens, it is something to think about.
  3. I am concerned about the lack of academic types on the committee. Including academic administrators, I count nine. After all, the business of the university is eventually academic. I know you would like to have a broad range of people represented, but the number still seems low for an institution wanting to reach the highest level.
  4. McCoy did not go in the first two rounds; therefore, he was not a game decider. So, of course, Ryan Leaf was wonderful, and Tom Brady, sixth round draft choice, is awful. What it takes to be successful in college and in the pros is not always the same. As far as can McCoy make it, I suggest we wait and see. PC changed a lot of games for us. Are we going to disregard that because the pros were not lined up for him when he finished.
  5. Texas might have another reason for interest in the Big 10. Texas is a member of the Association of American Universities. This is a group of high powered research universities. There are only 63 institutions in this group. Seven of them are in the Big 12. All of the current 11 Big 10 members belong. Texas has this elite arrogance that would be attracted to being in a conference with these schools. The SEC only has 2 schools (Vanderbilt and Florida). Athletics aside, I think Texas would be intrigued by the prospect of being in a conference with what they consider their peers.
  6. Nothing really. College people feel interim is more scholarly than temporary.
  7. I think his credentials look pretty good. In fact, considering how all of this has transpired, I am surprised we were able to get someone looking this good. Obviously, he has an interest in athletics: NCAA Board of Directors, chair of three different conferences. Since he is interim, he has no need of being a yes man for anyone. Not saying he will not, but there is no need for him to be one.
  8. The terrible part of this is we all recognize the satire in the article. There is not a college basketball fan in the nation that needs an explanation.
  9. I don't want to get into a Rodge discussion, but if his hands are as good as some have said with good speed, I would be looking for him if I were the QB.
  10. Short of the other schools kicking them out, Arkansas is not going to leave the SEC.
  11. Expect 7 Hope to win them all 12. Cannot believe everone doesn't hope for 12 wins.
  12. Mitchell's last home game was in 1966 against what was then the Univ of Chattanoga. Mitchell had coached at North Texas for 21 years and had combined experience of 42 years. During the game, we had scored 21 points. The PA announcer said 21 points for 21 years anyone want to go for 42. In the last quarter, we scored to make it 40-7. The extra point team came out to kick the extra point to make it 41, and the student section booed. It was all a fake. I don't know if Mitchell called it, or the team decided to do it. Anyway, we scored the 2 points and made the final score 42-7. Making it 42 points for 42 years.
  13. Odus Mitchell has to be in the group. The Rod Rust team that did so well was largely Mitchell's recruits. Besides Mitchell was a coach of Y. A. Tittle.
  14. There are nine BOR members. They are appointed by the Governor with the consent of the Senate. They serve staggered six year terms. The Governor also appoints a non-voting student regent each year.
  15. The chancellor would answer to the BOR, and the President answers to the Chancellor. I am not sure about Texas law. In Arkansas, the state constitution gives sole power to the BOR. I am not sure how it would work in Texas.
  16. I don't have a problem with the star ratings. My concern is with the team totals. Last year both Arkansas and Mississippi had great team standings because they signed everyone they could. Troy seems to do this too. You could have more highly rated players, not sign as many, and wind up with a lower standing than the other team simply because they outpoint you. It is kind of like track meets where a school wins simply because they outpoint you by having so many entrants.
  17. I wonder what this board would be saying about Patrick Cobbs about now if he were on the board. The best we can do is a small running back with not one other D 1 offer. How terrible.
  18. This class is looking better as we get closer to signing time. In light of our record, I think this shows that some prospects out there, like us, see all UNT has to offer.
  19. It is difficult to believe the president told Leach to watch out the chancellor was out to get him, knowing where this was all likely to go.
  20. A couple of years ago, I talked to an ex asst coach from one of the Belt schools. I asked him about UNT. His answer was they always came in with more talent than us, but they always beat UNT.
  21. Leach's big mistake was thinking he was bigger than the University. This is not an uncommon happening. We saw it earlier at K State, Bob Huggins at Cincy, and even back to Woody Hayes at OSU. The administration said they could not take the insubordinate behavior from any employee. I think Leach really thought he was above any type of supervision. I have seen people fired for lower levels of insubordination than this case seemed to concern.
  22. The cause will have nothing to do with Adam James. The "cause" will be insubordination which is recognized as a "cause" for termination in any avenue of employment. Leach's best hope is he can prove some kind of constitutional right that has been abridged. You know TT's administration did not make this move without the assurance of their legal staff.
  23. In today's times, a school cannot be to careful when dealing with head injuries. LaSalle University settle a suit this fall for almost $2 million. Several years ago, a player suffered a concussion. Then he played I think in the next game. He received another head injury which left him with a permanent disability. The settlement was out of court or likely would have been much more. With knowledge of things like this, administrators would be reckless not to take them seriously. I don't know if the James is a goldbrick or not, but if I am President of TT I would be on Leach like a tick on a dog or maybe more fittingly a leech.
  24. Before we get to bent out of shape, how many offers from D1 schools did Booger and Patrick Cobbs get?
  25. Don't get too excited about South Alabama's win over Arkansas. At this point, Arkansas has not been very impressive. They started the season with a number of players suspended.
