For those who did not see Joe Greene when he was at North Texaa, you have no idea what you missed. I have never seen a more dominant defensive college lineman. He was too fast to run from. Ark. Tried trapping him, and then running away. You really missed a treat if you didn't see him then.

What about the '68 team with Steve Ramsey, Ron Shanklin, Joe Greene, Cedric Hardeman, and Chuck Beatty among others. They were 8-2' Zander robbed at Little Rock by a team that won the Sugar Bowl..

Malzhan takes a 1-11 team in his first year and goes to the NC game, but Strong can't take an 8-5 team and do the same. I am not predicting that he will, but we may be engaging in wishful thinking to think they will be worse in 14.

This has been a great discussion, and I hate to hijack it, but was anything of interest about basketball said during the show? If someone could give a quick answer, we could get back to Archer, tv in General, and Andrew' s pastor.

This has become increasingly common at universities and not just for coaches. One problem is who calls the shots. Does the university or the entity providing the extra compensation call the shots by the threat of withdrawing money. The situation has already happened at GA. The Foundation (independent of the Board) threatened to pull it's subsidization of the President' salary in order to get their way. Their accreditation agency was about to become involved when the Foundation backed off. What does the Golden Rule say? He with the gold rules.

New UT Coach Strong deemphasizes recruiting services and stars
Graddean replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
The star system hasn't worked that well in the past several years at Austin. Just read the words without knowing who said it, and it sounds a lot like a coach that just us to 9-4 with a bowl victory. -
Bo Davis departure causes several UT decommitments
Graddean replied to ChristopherRyanWilkes's topic in Mean Green Football
Did Davis do that great a job with all of the talent he had. I was rarely impressed with their run stopping. -
DL Xavier Washington 6-1, 238 4.85 Cedar Hill (offer)
Graddean replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Just because they decided to decommit does not necessarily mean they may not recommit. Since it is a dead period no coaches can contact them yet. -
Thank you. It was great. Especially, knowing everything was going to go our way.

DMNews Hits and Misses: UNT joins the big boys
Graddean replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't think the attendance comment was a dig at UNT. I took it as a call out to the residents of Dallas. They didn't provide proper support for a local bowl and charities.- 12 replies

You will have to look at the ratings as compared to other ESPNU programs. ESPNU does not have the number of subscribers as does ESPN I and II.

I was going to say being a "directional school" didn't seem to bother UCF against Baylor. You could add UCLA which is a city school. At least, we are not an "Aggies" school.

Joe Greene Era at UNT had 3 NFL #1's +17 Others Drafted !
Graddean replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Before this list started, you could add Art Perkins, spider Lockhart, and Bobby Smith. I am sure there were others. These are ones I remember seeing play. -
Thank you for the information.

Does anyone know if the game will be streamed? We don't haveESPNU.

Worst basketball team i've seen in 35 years
Graddean replied to untbigdaddy's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I guess it could be worse. Grambling lost this weekend to Lyon College (NAIA from Arkansas. My fear is we wind up with a .500 season of 4-5 point victories and 20+ point losses. Then what happens? -
. Overlander is logging about 14 minutes per game off the bench.

Big names have walked through the Cotton Bowl Tunnel
Graddean replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Don Trull and Lawernce Elkins, Jack Spikes When I was in high school, weren't to a game there during Rural Youth Day at the State Fair. Either Prairie View or Texas Southern was playing. On a first down play, the defense was called offside making it first and five. The next play the defense was called offside again. The ref stepped off five more yards. He then called for the chains, and as a result the offense was given first and inches. -

Frank Ryan, Buddy Dial, Dickey Maegle, Roosevelt Leaks, Kenneth Gidney -
The reason Texas defense looked so bad was because of the lack of offense after McCoy left. Only diehardTide fans would argue that the game outcome might have been different if McCoy did not get hurt. Before we decide Saban might be the best ever, you should take a look at Bud Wilkinson's record. His winning percentage as head coach was 82.6. Saban's percentage is 74.6. Sometimes, we need to remember football has been played for a long time.

Must read new UNT Prez Neal Smatresk article
Graddean replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It is nice to get someone happy where he is. I am a firm believer that in most cases we carry or happiness (or misery) with us. Although I am biased, UNT is a better prospect in higher ed than UNLV. I think he realizes it. He wants the challenge of taking us from a Tier 2 to a Tier 1. He did not overtly say it,but it is in his inferences.- 12 replies

Perception is a funny thing. USA Today has three teams we beat rated above us: Rice, Ball State, and MTSU. Three teams we lost to are ranked below us: Ohio, Tulane, and UTSA. SEEMS KIND OF STRANGE.

Rice official to Liberty = UNT to Heart of Dallas!
Graddean replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Rice was involved in one of the most famous plays in bowl history. Alabama's Tommy Lewis came off the bench to tackle Dicky Maegle in theCotton Bowl..I was watching on TV and thought where did that guy from. He ran wild against Alabama tha day. -
Isn't it great though to be wondering which bowl instead of staying home.

Former UNT Assistant Kenny Evans let go by Northeastern
Graddean replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The two teams they beat won a total of three games. As Longjim said hard to understand being shook by the decision.
