This has become increasingly common at universities and not just for coaches. One problem is who calls the shots. Does the university or the entity providing the extra compensation call the shots by the threat of withdrawing money. The situation has already happened at GA. The Foundation (independent of the Board) threatened to pull it's subsidization of the President' salary in order to get their way. Their accreditation agency was about to become involved when the Foundation backed off. What does the Golden Rule say? He with the gold rules.

The star system hasn't worked that well in the past several years at Austin. Just read the words without knowing who said it, and it sounds a lot like a coach that just us to 9-4 with a bowl victory.

I don't think the attendance comment was a dig at UNT. I took it as a call out to the residents of Dallas. They didn't provide proper support for a local bowl and charities.

You will have to look at the ratings as compared to other ESPNU programs. ESPNU does not have the number of subscribers as does ESPN I and II.

I was going to say being a "directional school" didn't seem to bother UCF against Baylor. You could add UCLA which is a city school. At least, we are not an "Aggies" school.

Before this list started, you could add Art Perkins, spider Lockhart, and Bobby Smith. I am sure there were others. These are ones I remember seeing play.

I guess it could be worse. Grambling lost this weekend to Lyon College (NAIA from Arkansas. My fear is we wind up with a .500 season of 4-5 point victories and 20+ point losses. Then what happens?
