Yes I think it was.....but how many additional butts did that actually put in the seats? If we were 2-2 the Joe Greene statue wouldn't have been that much of an impact. The statue unveiling is like what an old sales guy used to tell me about "value proposition" in construction products. "that and the low price will win the job every time." 🙂

I've said this before but the best marketing person for UNT football is the head coach, period. Winning is and will always be the best marketing tool for NORTH TEXAS. how do I know? because we've tried everything under the sun except win (really win, not go 7-5 against mediocre competition). We've never had an 11 win season. ever in 100+ years.... The pic in the post above of packed Apogee said it was 15% marketing and 85% winning. I disagree. It was 98% winning and 2% marketing. It was 98% being on ESPN, to 25 mentions, national attention, being 4-0, feeling like we belonged in the college football world. When that happens, the benefits of our size and numbers start to bubble to the surface. As for "other G5s that do it" we always bring up the fringes and someone even mentioned SMU. That's 9 or 10 schools out of 65? 70? in G5? For every ECU I'll bring up Boise St. For every SMU I'll bring up UCF. If a G5 wins and doesn't get attendance from it, it is an outlier, not the norm. If North Texas went 12-0, got ranked in the top 25, season tickets would be much more difficult to come by. And to use this same argument, why can't North Texas do it? Other G5s have done it...

Can you bring your September weather with you?

I hate SMU as much as the next person but it would be dishonest of me to say it wouldn’t be amazing if we had someone like that with that much $$ that gave it to the ath dept now…..it’s ultimately not going to matter in the big picture and it’s going to be a waste of his money (SMU will be back down in a few years when the ACC implodes) but it has to be great to have access to that kind of money. but hey SMU…..good for you little man

So much truth here.....

Do recruiting class rankings even mean anything anymore? Especially HS recruits? Who cares what the 2024 class ranks coming in....most of them will be gone by 2026.

Show me the school that has attendance/financial support before winning. I don't think Baylor basketball was a tough ticket before Scott Drew got there. TCU before Gary Patterson. I went to a UT football game when I was in high school BEFORE Mack Brown got there. Plenty of room to stretch out. And as we know first hand.....building attendance and support "because we graduated from there and we should do our part" isn't sustainable....if the ath. dept. wants that...they're not doing their job. Job 1 is hire the coach that will get us winning to the point that coming to games is a must see. We've shown flashes of how desperate the fan base is to jump on board....we just haven't taken that next step. Don't depend on our loyalty and duty to the school to get support and attendance up...that's not a recipe for growth. -

The last several years, take any G5 with big time success. 11, 12 wins. Off the top of my head…..Troy, App St, Coastal Carolina, Ark St, UTSA, Utah St. to name a few (may be off) If we had seasons like they had, the support, Attendance and donations would be off the charts. All those teams did something we have never done. Actually won 11 games in one season. WE’VE NEVER HAD AN 11 WIN SEASON. So I don’t want to hear about “doing what other alumni at other schools do” How about do something that other schools do on the field. Schools that have less than we do. 11 wins. That’s the bar. See what happens if we hit that. -

HARD disagree. No one anywhere (except maybe Aggies) supports their school if it’s not winning. A lot of schools don’t even do that. We actually do. I’m not talking about going 7-5. I’m talking about nationally noticed winning. Top 25 rankings. Plenty of teams with a lot less resources than we have, have won big. Mosley said it best above: “Every time we’ve had a competitive team, attendance goes up” We are actually way ahead of other schools we just CANNOT CONSISTENTLY WIN. that’s really all you have to do at UNT. We’ve sniffed it. But haven’t really done it. -

While All important, nothing is as Important as W/L. Our #1 marketing leader is Eric Morris before that it was Seth Littrell, etc Period This is 100% correct from the AD: “We have to put a competitive team on the field. Every time we’ve had a competitive team, attendance goes up.” -Jared Mosley

"There are more people watching Locked on Big 12 (your low quality clickbait hacks) than watched SMU vs Rice on ESPNU in primetime" "It was beat out by Princeton/Dartmouth the same week" "It got doubled in viewership by Kent St/Akron" Maybe you can send money to households to watch the football team...then the TV numbers (which is all that matters) will be at the level of the schools you think are your equal.....

We can change it up...if your player is actually on the team at the end of the season....you get a Jimmy John's gift card or something.

Looking to discuss, or debate: the future of CFB.
TheColonyEagle replied to untcampbell's topic in Mean Green Football
that's 100% correct We have to think of College Football as the NFL now. Remember when the Giants beat the undefeated Patriots in the Superbowl? Anyone remember the Giants record? I don't. But I remember the Superbowl ring they got. Get ready...there will be a .500 or barely above .500 national champion in the future. Gonna be some 1 loss teams not win. We have to stop looking at College Football the way we always have. It's different now. Put it another way: They would prefer a loss to a big time opponent than a 50 point blowout against a G5. When I say "they" I mean TV. That's who is in charge. And when that loss to a big time opponent doesn't hurt their playoff chances, the fans won't care. -

The first FPI ranking came out this week: https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/40263993/fpi-which-college-football-teams-undervalued-overvalued The top 10 are all SEC or Big 10 (and ND). The first two NON SEC/Big 10 schools are schools that are suing to get into the SEC (FSU and Clemson). The first school not associated with the SEC/Big 10 not named Notre Dame is Kansas at #17. Then quickly followed by 2 more SEC and a new Big 10 to round out the top 20. If this tells us anything about the future of College Football. The gap between most of this top 20 and everyone else is HUGE. (Kansas is an outlier here) -

So I'm curious about the transfer portal process (I guess I haven't paid that much attention) Once you enter the portal, is it you're jumping all in, no net? So you have to be pretty confident you are going to better your situation (program wise, NIL $$ wise, etc) Is there no safety net there? Assuming the team you are leaving would prefer you didn't leave? Could Buggs have said "man coach, I messed up, can I please come back?" -
3 But my interest in the entire college football season is around a 2.5 I’m sure it will pick up around the end of July. Or maybe not. but following the first lawsuit or player that gets fired or traded is like a 3.5
