We are going to need some quicker decision making by coaches and quarterbacks. I think this is possible but only if they have been practicing efficiency. We could take this game.

The need for more hype during UNT games
EagleGreen replied to bleedgreen4ever's topic in Mean Green Football
I must add that we need real pep rally's. I heard Mean Green Fling had a great turnout; however the pep rally, the night before the game, was extremely lame. A DJ with rap playing, a 20x10 pool of foam, no coaches, no players, a short appearance by the band to play the fights song and then all 30 people went home. LAME. We need some FIGHT put into the pep rally to get folks excited. Damn we are lame. -
The need for more hype during UNT games
EagleGreen replied to bleedgreen4ever's topic in Mean Green Football
I think this thread is the epitome of the problem. We are worried about the music. 1) The entrance is fine 2) Get some sort of ending for the "North" "Texas" debacle. It just ends with a lul. Do it 3 times and end with "Go Mean Green" 3)Get a catchy phrase for 3rd downs "Get Loud for 3rd Down"...something translatable to all. My wife has no idea what 3rd down means and doesn't care, but if she's told to get loud...she get's loud (that's why I married her). 4)The cheerleaders come no where near the center of the home stands. Get them out there an rallying the crowd. They stay on the margins and are rather useless for their intended purpose. 5)We need a common cheer for all that can go into action with a few moves from the cheerleader, and the big screen. "yooouuUUUUUU NT FIGHT! Go Mean Green!" Something simple that we all know. That's a start. -
Official Ohio Game Score Prediction Thread
EagleGreen replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
10-7, UNT -
Look guys, according to the Congrove Poll (http://www.collegefootballpoll.com/current_congrove_rankings.html), we are #64, Idaho is the worst team in the country. We don't know anything yet. Ohio is #82, but Ball State is ranked ahead of us. These are do-able games but not a certainty. No way in hell we beat GA...just no way in hell. I wish it would happen but, that wish and $5 will only get you a nice coffee and some weird looks.

Zimmerman_Martin Trial
EagleGreen replied to EagleGreen's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Well...if a frog had a glass ass, he would only hop once. Doubtful Zimmerman would have confronted Martin without the gun. Doubtful Martin would have "beat up" Zimmerman if Zimmerman didn't confront. If Zimmerman didn't have a gun, the cops would likely have asked Martin what he was doing, he would have said I'm walking home from the store, and the cops would likely have let him go. -
Zimmerman_Martin Trial
EagleGreen replied to EagleGreen's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I understand the verdict (Zimmerman possibly didn't do anything illegal). No one knows, except Zimmerman, what actually happened that night during the time of hanging up with 911 and when the "guys with flashlights" showed up. That time period is all up to interpretation. Zimmerman attorneys presented the better story. Pretty sad case to me because it means that, at least in Florida, you can legally push someone to the point of them whipping your ass and then you can shoot them. Not good. I think it would be nice if we lived in a world where Zimmerman could have given Martin a ride home to keep him out of the rain. -
Zimmerman_Martin Trial
EagleGreen replied to EagleGreen's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
As I break from grant writing, I visit news.google.com and read the commentary on the Zimmerman/Martin trial (among other articles). I find that both Zimmerman and Martin are guilty of unrestrained pride. Zimmerman should not have persued Martin, as instructed by the 911 operator, but he really thought he was doing good by engaging the suspect and attempting to get him out of his neighborhood (he wanted to be a cop, afterall). Martin, should have called 911 himself and ran home...all the way home. Instead, 2 unrestrained egos encountered each other and the armed one won. Really, nobody won. Martin is dead and hopefully Zimmerman will spend much needed time in the slammer. I say this because we are living in the time when bad behavior is rewarded and we don't want more Zimmerman's provoking fights just to "stand their ground." -
The Zimmerman_Martin trail is underway. Today, things didn't start out so well for Zimmerman. Both eyewitnesses said they saw what appeared to be zimmerman on top of Martin during the scuffle (one said this was an assumption because of her vision), and a "boy" yelling "help". Both witnesses saw the scuffle and went to call 911, immediately hearing "pops" of a gun, meaning zimmerman was assumed to be on top of Marting right before the shootings. The infamous hoodie, gun, and other items were shown in the trial. More about the first witnesses can be read here: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/06/26/trayvon-martin-murder-zimmerman-sanford-florida/2458133/

Again, this is where it gets silly. "Some kid, classroom full of guns" Geez, this language is only rhetoric and not very good rhetoric, at that. As a professor, I realize that if guns are permitted to be carried on campus, as they are permitted to be carried elsewhere...with largely no accidents, then I have a better chance against a "shooter" IF I'M CARRYING, than if I'm not. I won't depend on others, regardless of age or skill, to defend my life. This isn't the military and a concealed handler is not ordered to defend anyone's life.
-
This is where the conversation starts going south due to exaggerations. A bunch of guns in my classroom? I am indifferent to "a bunch of guns in my classroom." I have "a bunch of guns" at home and they haven't caused any problems; in fact, they pretty much keep to themselves. With concealed carry permits, you are unaware of the amount of guns in the classroom, hallway, bathroom, courtyard, etc...because they are concealed by trained and licensed individuals. I would only be aware of the one I was in charge of. There is no "ideal" of a university. There is a reality of theUniversity I work for. In that reality, a person is relatively defenseless in the event of a rogue shooter. I would like that to be changed. At "THE U", we always crave a completely-safe-environment. That should outweigh less safe environments.
-
I'm a professor at the University and I am FOR concealed carry. I don't want to be treated like a second rate citizen and not be able to carry, when permitted, because I work at a school. I would also like to have a plan rather than just hope and pray, in the event of a campus shooting. History doesn't dictate the future, so we don't know if a shooting will happen or not. I'd like to be prepared if it happens, and hope that it does not.

LJ has more to do with all this "stuff" than you would think. None of it gets done without legislative approval. Bottom line. Nobody is better at prioritizing needs and getting top priorities funded than Lee Jackson. Done Deal. Knowing how to get things approved in the legislature and knowing how to move the needle on a legislative "no" , is key to being a chancellor, and he's done well.

4 win season with talk of "maybe next year." Coach Mac gets another year and we hope for new uniforms in the off season.

*TIC* I think most will find solace in knowing that OUR president, as in WE THE PEOPLE, is a CHRISTIAN! We MUST respect HIM as the LEADER of our CHRISTIAN nation. EVOLUTION and GLOBAL WARMING are a HOAX! It's COLD outside TODAY! Eat that AL GORE! ALSO, we DIDN'T come from the sea, we came from the UNITY of 2 sinners (ultimately the same person; see rib) and will ONLY be saved by OUR CREATOR! GO TO CHURCH PEOPLE! (By the way, there is a good potluck there, tonight). *TIC*

Ring Time...
EagleGreen replied to MeanGreenTXN's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I have the antiqued gold, XL big boy. It has no precious jewels atop, just the giant Texas star. I love it an wear it everyday. I've had it for years and folks still ask questions about it and want to see it. -
It looks like we should at least win 5 this year. Any other predictions?

Probable 2013 season (or maybe flip La. Tech and Tulane): CUSA East Marshall FIU UAB ECU Tulane Southern Miss CUSA West UNT La. Tech Tulsa Rice UTEP UTSA
-
CUSA East Marshall Old Dominion (2014) Charlotte (2015) FIU FAU (2014) UAB MUTS (2014) -ECU (2014) CUSA West UNT Tulsa La. Tech Southern Miss Rice UTEP UTSA -Tulane (2014) I wonder who will be in what division, next year?
-
It appears CUSA is looking at FAU, WKU, TX State, and NM State. http://wIww.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/eye-on-college-football/21176630/middle-tennessee-state-to-join-conference-usa
-
It will be interesting because of location. It would seem that CUSA is in need of a team from the West. Or, we could have UAB in the West. I anticipate New Mexico State. East (7): Charlotte, FIU, Marshall, MTSU, Old Dominion, Southern Miss, UAB West (6): Lousiana Tech, Rice, Tulsa, UNT, UTEP, UTSA
-
It looks like they are after FAU and NMSU for teh 14th member to CUSA. I hoping for NMSU. " The addition of Middle Tennessee leaves C-USA with 13 members, with a 14th likely to be added in the next few weeks, sources said. Potential expansion candidates include Florida Atlantic of the Sun Belt and New Mexico State of the Western Athletic Conference."
-
Rumor in Florida is that Florida State is evaluating a move to either the Big East or Big 12. That would be interesting.

This is a good story about the Louisville move and how other conferences fair: http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2012/11/28/3701100/louisville-to-acc-expansion-conference-realignment It looks like the MAC, MWC, CUSA, and SBC really are the bottom of the barrel.
