Speaking as one who has experienced the death of three very close family members, I always appreciated the one who stepped up with a little humor amidst the tears. So I will give it a try: Somehow, including Baby Arm in the same sentence as "you are in my thoughts and prayers" just feels a bit strange strange. I think it is the fact that Baby Arm is capitalized, like it is a true name. Kind of like, "Hope you feel better, Numb Nuts." All of that aside, I hope your grieving process takes just the right amount of time and that it is replaced with the joy of memories.

No wonder they couldn't find him.

1971 Cowboys
untcampbell replied to untcampbell's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Quite the historian, John! If you get NFL Network, try to scope this special. I liked Mercer's style. And the feature takes you back to some of the social issues of the day...Duane Thomas gave TO his start. -
NFL network did an hour long feature on the 1971 Cowboys. I can't remember when Bill Mercer stopped being the Voice of the Cowboys, but that sure sounded like him on all the calls that accompanied this feature. Good stuff.

Any Mean Greenies In Colorado?
untcampbell replied to BeanCounterGrad'03's topic in Mean Green Football
Used to live in Castle Rock. My wife is still kicking me for moving us back to Texas. -
And using the same source, 7 of the 28 area 50 that have made a commitment are choosing good ol' North Texas! GMG, GTD

Not to answer for Cool, but my post supports the idea that we have a lot more to look forward to than we have in the past, that we need to get used to EXPECTING positive results, etc. I do not believe this is going to be easy. We have a big hole to dig out of, but I do think we are heading in a direction that is way beyond where we have been recently. This Coach has high expectations and vision, and a plan to accomplish his goals for NT. Some reaction to early recruiting news and coach selection, I think, is just part of the culture of pessimism that this program has spawned over the last few years. I think Cool was commenting that you should EXPECT more, and not be too disappointed if it comes true. GMG

I don't know who Cool is, but what a great thought! Spending all of your time thinking about how "our" world is getting better, not wasting it looking for things that "could" go wrong, or assuming you are smarter than the coach? What a concept. Keep posting Cool.

The voice of reason is lonely and rarely heard...but resonates. Good post buff.

Wow, 48 replies since late last night! Harry, I would be grateful to be added. Thanks, Scott Campbell And three cheers to the idea of a kegger or 2 for the GMG.com staff at the first home game of 2007.

Good show for Bruno on NYD. Hope you enjoy LA and that you find your way back to Dallas.

South Bend Green, Are you moving from Sporting News to a new network? What is the new gig in LA? Heard your banter with Bob Berger last week. You had the veteran beat, in my mind.

Let me tell you JayDub, it was not easy doing Jesus' stunts in The Last Temptation of Christ. Actually I am interested in seeing Lonesome Dave belt out Slow Ride (Mean Green 93). I have a picture of me sitting on Foghat's equipment boxes backstage at a Texas Jam, courtesy of Shutter's good buddy and my roommate at NT, Eric Gay, now AP photographer in San Antonio. How is that for a run on sentence?

Really interesting to know from where everyone derives income to help us build the stadium! Nice to know that people from all walks can be North Texas fans! I am a Medical Science Liaison with an biotech pharmaceutical company that specializes in treating eye disease. Sure was hoping someone from the Nation was into Pharmaceutical Sales because, as Namath so wonderfully expressed himself to Kolber, our company is "strugg----ellelleeelelelinggggggggg (pardon my attempt at phonetic spelling)." Degree in Journalism, 1982. My posts reflect the reason that I am not writing for a living! I also must brag that today, I upped my MGC membership to my highest level yet!

Also on Sirius satellite radio!

No reason not to announce recruits...THIS coach has nothing to hide, and fears nothing or no one.

Would someone call their friend in North Dakota and ask them to vote for Caris? Just one vote from that outpost please!?

FW*Telegram HEADLINES DODGE EXPECTED TO REPLACE DD
untcampbell replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Uhm, what happened last night? Is anyone else as surprised as I am? Ticket discussing...George defending the hire, everyone else putting down hiring a HS coach. Partly schtick. -
Aggies talking about the possibility of Dodge
untcampbell replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Props to Objective Aggie. This guy comes to more NT games than many of the members of this board. He is always fair with us, and knows more about our program than I do (though that isn't saying that much). Background: Aggie neighbor. Good friend of mine. Follows NT because a good friend of his does. He can name more former Eagles than I can...always starts with the Pertile brothers! Really is interested in us being as good as we can be. Passionate Aggie who is fighting a tough battle....season tickets are very expensive and he has 2 boys under 7 who want to be at every game, but can be just as happy at an NT game for about 1/10th of the cost, 200 miles closer to home, etc. Objective Aggie is a good NT fan. -
Said both shoulders are bruised (I think), and his legs still aren't right...been an all season thing.

There are many good guys on this team. In fact, let me mention one that positively impacted my son: My then 8 year old brought his recorder out on the field and asked Jamario if he would answer a few questions after a game. Jamario stopped what he was doing (celebrating a win with his family and friends), kneeled down and looked right at Ian in both question and reply. I really enjoy watching these guys, win or lose. Most all (if not all) of them are high character guys, work hard to represent their university, have a strong work ethic and do their best each game. Sometimes we focus so intently on the negative that we overlook what is right and good about this program. I am excited at what the future holds for this program. I look forward to see who will emerge as stars on the field, and am grateful to all the guys that my kids like to look up to.

Vito did a nice job of recognizing that amidst all the temporary crap, The Mighty will be in the hearts and minds for a while. What a great kid: polite, respectful of his "elders" (thanked me with a sir for coming to the game), always positive, works hard, overcomes obstacles, never says no. The Nolan Ryan of North Texas. If my kids are going to choose a sports personality to admire/model, JQuinn would be a good candidate. Others that come to mind: Brandon Kennedy Patrick Cobbs Scott Hall Chris Hurd Adrian Awasom Andy Blount Nick Zuniga Mitch Maher Lance White Toby Gowin Brian Waters Erric Pegram All good humans. I have underserved this current team but I look forward to watching those who will step up, and represent us proudly, win or lose, in the coming years. Here is hoping that The Mighty will, next year, be the first NT-ex on my Fantasy Football team. Go North Texas. Go Mean Green.
