  1. Thanks for the posts Shop Mean Green. I really get a kick out of seeing the Ladies play soccer and softball and try to make a game or two of each every year. Thanks for representing in Lubbock.
  2. Nice article in the DMN today (Metro) about Brian Water's support for a Habitat home being built in his hometown (Waxahachie, I believe). This guy is good as gold. Go Chiefs O-Line!
  3. Quoting the kid in Animal House during the parade: Thank you Lord.
  4. Oops...thought we were talking about ice hockey. Scott
  5. I have to say that I have enjoyed the interaction with Memphis fans more than any other team we play out of conference. Made some nice friends at the New Orleans Bowl and the posts here have showed the class continues. They were better than us at the NOB and today, but often fans of teams like this pull the "superiority" card on us. Memphis fans, on the whole, enjoy the competition and play the class card after. Props to the Tigers and, other than the fact that it would kill my bracket, win the damn tournament! GMG
  6. Brevity, Travis...well said.
  7. So you are going through your brackets, trying to win the $4000 first place in your pool. You get to NT v Memphis. Bad fan if you pick Memphis? (I would love to lose the chance at the pool because I missed this pick!) I picked NT in my free entry pool, beating Nevada in the second round before falling in the third. Contrarians RULE.
  8. Not sure if it counts, but Marty Turco also picked the Mean Green. Pray the contrarian has his day tomorrow, boys!
  9. How would one find a schedule for the teams? I have enjoyed games in the past, but haven't kept up with them this year. I remember seeing NT beat SMU and UT a few seasons back. Great, rowdy crowds. Scott
  10. Classic Rome reset: When someone opens with "no disrespect," prepare to be disrespected (no disrespect intended, greenjoe!). He used that line when Parcells discussed surprise plays, calling them Jap plays, I believe. Funny observation. gmg
  11. Breakfast club in SA, if so? Thanks OA.
  12. Disagree...in the sense that I live in the friggin suburbs, where if the paint gets chipped on a street sign, someone authorizes my HOA funds to come and make it look new again. I am a fan of the character (and characters) that you see around Fry Street. It is not perfect, thank you. And as for the Tomato...I can tell you I would never eat at a place that looks like the Tomato if it were in FM...but somehow the dirty air vents, the worn carpet and disgusting bathroom makes me feel like I am tempting the dark side when I go get the best pizza in town, in Texas for that matter. I think The Tomato will have the last laugh in this whole Fry Street refurb: When the developers finally tear that building down, I think the land will be condemned as unusable, for asbestos and other environmental hazards! I am pulling for a new, non-smoking Tomato!
  13. Did you enjoy those two Super Bowls in Lubbock? I hope you did. I hope you did very much.
  14. Not sure, but it sounded like they had a great time up there today with those BAD radio boys.
  15. These are two individuals who were made for COMMUTING and I doubt they spend two hours after friday morning's classes are over in or around Denton and never return until late Sunday night! How in freakin hell can you live on campus and NOT know anyone? It wouldn't matter if they were attending LSU they wouldn't be a part of anything. I'll bet they both end up dropping out or transferring. What a sad waste of the best years of your life. Get involved people, get involved! Rick
  16. http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/...0.18e27c33.html The Tomato must be shut down by March 15. Good news is it sounds like they are going to reopen in Denton, but sadly not near campus. I would love it if Ski and Becky could move near the square. These guys support NT in a lot of ways and I wish the makers of the best pizza in town a prosperous new location.
  17. Thanks for reminding me about Metzlers. Anyone know about Sweetwater? And finally, best margarita? Anyone?
  18. The Tomato is my fave pizza place, but is it still open? Have they made a decision about where/if they will move? This is the first VD in years (travel issues) that we didn't grab up a bunch of heart shaped pies. The NY Subway is always wonderful. I like hanging out at McKenna park with the kids. Is Denton Co Hamburger Company on the square not around anymore? Apparently my fave chinese place closed a year or so ago, Cafe China out by the mall. Right there with you on a Candy Haven birthday cake. San Bay studios, by TWU, for a t-shirt. Roy will custom make if you need something screened. The port-a-potty outside Fouts beats the hell out of "the Wall" inside Fouts, if you need to go to the bathroom while in Denton, but then again I am a fan of the divider between each man flopping around. And there used to be this great Putt-Putt that....ah, long story. BTW, where were you at Breakfast Club this weekend, OA?
  19. Thanks Quoner for the summary. I made it to the "This" that began the last bullet point.
  20. MP, It was the In--vi--taaaaaaa-shuuuun moment. I think the Ticket vs ESPN debate is a fun one: Are you just listening for sports? Listen to ESPN. Do you want to laugh a bit as well as get your sports headlines? Go Ticket. I actually prefer to laugh, with an even smaller dose of sports, so I go back and forth between Howard Stern or Jim Rome and the Ticket. As for Craig, sadly he is closer to the average NT student than not. Many students, including me, started elsewhere and finished at NT. Some of these guys spent their whole childhood pulling for a college, then go to school there, over-party or flunk out and end up at NT. Allegiance doesn't shift easily. I became a fan of NT from my first game, a NT 3 overtime win vs UT in basketball as I came to NT at mid-year. Other students leave a school where they watched their team play in a full 70000-seat stadium or a full 15000-seat arena. They come to NT and have their energy level sucked from them while watching NT play basketball with 1651 other fans. It is not an easy transition. I am supremely confident we are moving our athletic program, and product, in a direction that can inspire new fans, invigorate existing fans and expand the enthusiasm of the average student. I assure you that if NT had consistently won at a high level for the last 20 years, Craig would more proudly display his NT colors. Maybe we are on the right track.
  21. This is not an attempt to derail the thread, but I applaud anyone that makes it through an entire PMG post...cheers to the Gray One (Mr. Fincher). Being ADD, I rarely read a PMG post. I do not question their value, but anything more than a 100 words (or 100 emoticons) and I am gone. Other things that chase me from a post (and that PMG is guilty of on almost every post): * Overuse (read that ANY use) of the emoticon * Multiple type sizes * Multiple fonts * Changing type color mid-post * Using BOLD so much that any point intended to made by said bolding, is lost * More than 3 periods (not a reference to the monthly cycle) in an effort to break thought, pause or continue a sentence....................................... * Using more than one of any of the above in the same sentence * Overuse of the parenthetical (I am guilty of that one also PMG) I think that PMG will not leave a reply box until he uses every single button available to him. Again, not to diminish the value of PMG post points. I am sure they are relevant.
  22. I think RB is a position that CAN be run by committee. Keep 'em fresh. Think Addai/Rhodes.
  23. What does the Real Lonnie Finch have to say about this? I will take the enormity of positive press regarding THIS coach, over the sliver of negative publicity. I am finding it increasingly difficult to temper my enthusiasm over Coach Dodge, and what he has brought to the program at this early stage. I don't know how much difference there is in coaches (certainly more than one testicle hair), but I know this one is more enthusiastic and passionate, and I know he is a better salesperson than the one before him. I know I will enjoy what this coach puts on the field more than the last one. I know that guys are visiting North Texas, and surprised by what we have to offer (or is it the way it is being sold?). These last few months have provided me with hope that we are going in a direction that we have never gone, or even aspired to go. If Coach Dodge erred in his dealings with the Abilene kid, then he has proven he is not Jesus Christ. Glad he got it out of the way early because perfection is way too much to ask of anyone. Scott
  24. Thanks Harry and Evan. Great report for those that were on the road. Scott
  25. Post below is from 2005. INT Carroll Trevor Ashlock, a reserve senior DB, just made an interception to all but seal this win. What a memory that will be for a guy who didn't get a lot of glory during his career. Posted by Tim MacMahon at 2:58 PM (E-mail this entry)
