So I will throw in my .02 cents on this (and pardon the Plummer-esque length of this email): I sit in the family section H. I like to yell at the games, sometimes loudly. Some GA friends joined me so we moved over to the relatively empty Section I (I never sat in my seats). To my right, sitting across the aisle in Section H, was a nice looking 30-ish alum with her husband. She was laughing out loud at everything our crew was doing. Her "other" was smiling, as I probably would as my schtick is never out loud funny, but occasionally worthy of a guffaw. All this is to say that he was going along. Below me, past an empty row, was a couple, he with a monk haircut (hair all the way around, with a huge shiny bald spot in the middle), she a bit large for her own good. An older man was with them, sitting a row below them. His idea of fan participation was standing up for the kickoff with claws up, but he made no noise other than the occasional clap. A family with two small children was to our left, against the rails that represent the end of the stadium seating. There were about 4 seats between me and them. They were not overly excited with the yelling, but showed no visible expression that they were anti-crowd noise. I was doing most of the loud yelling amongst my friends, but they also joined in occasionally. There was no cussing, just yelling loud enough that my kids could hear me when I called them as they sat on the first row rail of Section H. Again, the funny thing is that whenever anyone yells, it is almost a surprise. People from lower rows in other sections look up to see who is actually participating. It didn't take long to sense mild irritation toward the fan with the big mouth. More facial expressions and body language than anything verbal...remember, these people don't talk. When I went to take my kids down to the field at halftime, one of my smart aleck friends yelled out, "don't worry folks...he won't be back until the 4th quarter." The fa...er, woman who chooses to live outiside medically designated weight and height guidelines, yelled out..."THANK YOU!" I heard her but chose to ignore it, as I believe those who dish must be able to handle the occasional retort. I was amazingly efficient at getting the five kids in my group to the field, off the field, to the bathroom (big props to the new bathrooms, btw) and to the concessions, so I got back to my seat with about 10 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. The woman of size yelled out to me, "It's not the fourth quarter!" I replied back, "You know lady, you are right. Let's just hope that the team gives us nothing to be excited about so you can have your peace and quiet and we can all sit and enjoy the beautifull weather." I then made an effort to give polite golf clap, make a few comments (only loud enough for her to hear) about how you would think the student side would be absolutely full as this is the quietest place on campus to study and, for the most part, sat quietly through the beating that was the second half. She kharma'd us to a loss, in my mind. It is her fault. She sucked the life out of an entire section of the stadium. I can't blame her completely. One other possible reason: it may be that this is Fouts Field fault. The football field is so far from the stands, I have to assume these "fans" just can't see the game, think they are at a track meet and are waiting for the first race to start. Yes, I know I am in the wrong because I choose to buy tickets in the family section, then get loud. I thought that the family section was for cheap-ass dads, not for library patrons. I also am in the wrong because I love loudly supporting my team, loud enough that I have (at games when the crowd is smaller) gotten players to turn around and laugh (like when I was asking if the new urinals under the North endzone during the multi-OT game last year were reserved for players only). Proposed solution: Designate ticket sales to include sections of people that want to come to live their last days in peace; for fans that like to yell when their is good reason to; and to fans that want to live it up and fully embrace the fricking five days of home football we get in an entire year. I do find that if a few people get going, it is often infectious and a whole section can get rowdy, encouraging the section next to it to get rowdy, etc etc. But please...show some passion, cadavers. I do understand that a fan is a fan, that I should love all who spend their hard earned dollars on NT football. Just move me to some section where a pulse is not frowned upon.

I have a crew of 4-5 that are cheap asses also...we will be in GA.

We were discussing this when it happened, watching at a friend's party. Again, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't make that much difference but in a rout of this magnitude, I disagree with Coach. 59-10 is better than 79-10 and a few plays called correctly delay scores for them, add points for us, etc. OU needed no help from the refs, and I really find it hard to believe they didn't see the knee touch.

UNTCampbell....proudly sitting farthest North! I have arranged cab service to get my kids down to the field for the Jr Mean Green halftime player return. BSMU

Anyone going to Vegas? I think I would also put $100 on NT to win the conference, at 15-1 odds.

I am a freak, I understand, but I like to HOLD the newspaper, not read it online. Can someone on the board provide a few spots in the area, where I can pick up the Sports Page Weekly? Specifically looking for places in this order (proximity to my house and the direction work takes me): Flower Mound Grapevine Lewisville Denton Their website apparently doesn't list locations where it can be found. Thanks in advance. Scott

In 1980, NT opened up UTA's new football stadium. In front of a nice crowd, NT provided me an away win in my first game as a student transfer from UT, 31-14 in the season opener. And Peacock, Mean Green 2018 did ask me about that game...had to admit we broke some rules. Overnight at a Holiday Inn $75 Getting kicked out of Big Brothers: Saved me money! Running out of fireworks: Saved AState money Hanging out with my little brother at an NT game, having that little brother go to Austin College, then transfer, graduate and work post-grad at NT: priceless.

Go Johnny Go! Another reason to go to New Orleans!

Mr Fincher and SE, Waaaayyyy above the call of duty. Thanks. My wife or mother in law (who met him also) will probably recognize the name from that list, but I am going to guess it was either Lemmons, Jenkins or Clemons. He was a light-skinned black guy, a big guy with a great smile. Man, I am an idiot for never remembering names, but the guy made such a nice impression on me that I didn't even pay attention to the name.

It is always fun to gauge reaction when wearing the Mean Green gear on the road. Here is some reaction I got from the family vacation in Hawaii: * Wearing my Mean Green Club shirt, a guy came up to me and said, "You guys finally got a coach. It is going to be fun watching you guys the next few years." This guy lives in the Metroplex and played football at Ouachita Baptist, but his daughter is considering attending NT. * Getting on the plane home wearing a NT football shirt, a flight attendant and pilot greeted me with a "Go Mean Green." I heard the pilot say something like, "North Texas guy sitting in first class, huh (I was upgraded)?" Later when I asked a group of flight attendants if anyone had a pen I could borrow, one of the flight attendants said he would do so only because his daughter just graduated from North Texas. * Two other people on the plane asked if I was excited about Todd Dodge. One was from Southlake and the other was from Arlington. * The flight was cancelled and we ended up back in Waikiki. Walking down the street to a restaurant, I heard someone yell: "Hey, Mean Green." Really nice guy came up to me and told me he played for Hayden Fry. He is an attorney in Chicago now. I am horrible with names, but would recognize it if I saw it. Anyone have a source for rosters during those days? Name was something like Pickens, or Kitchens. Most of the conversations led to a few minutes of good-hearted banter about where NT is heading. I had two questions about whether a new stadium was in the future.

Ian and Emma have been members as long as it has been in place, and they started attending games when they were 6 and 9 months old respectively. T-shirt that gets them on the field at halftime. Access to the JMG club area, with bounce houses, free ice cream, give aways. At least one game a year, one of the other sport teams, i.e hoops, soccer, etc, come over for an autograph session. Football and basketball buddy. One year, I was able to get the players email and we corresponded with him throughout the season (player was Scott Hall). Basketball is part of the package. Great value, and involves the children in MG sports in ways beyond just sitting in the stands. My kids are lifers now. GMG

Lance White, if just for the 90 yard mid-air fumble catch and return for a TD. Plus he still is an active letterman...leaderman, I should say.

The best QB will start...period.

Said he announced it just before getting on a cruise ship for family vacation.

In the past, I haven't done much with the tailgating crowd. I bring my JMG member kids (11 and 8 this year) and we usually get to the Village 2 hours before the game. We toss a little football, etc. I am usually distracted watching my kids, etc. I always feel a bit like a freeloader so I rarely approach the tailgaters. The tip jar could alleviate some of that feeling. I propose a tailgaters club. And I do so with the thought offered in this thread that this is getting too big to do an all-campus thing, and the interest expressed in a gmg.com-only affair. Membership due before the first game. Charge whatever price you want, and if you pay and make 1 game or 5, you are "paid" for the season. Use dues for food, beverage and possibly even a storage unit in Denton to keep the hard to transport stuff, unused condiments, etc near Fouts. Just thinking out loud. gmg

Quinn, though Pete Harvey would get an others receiving votes nod. Never saw Shank play but I hear he did a little something.

I am sure this goes against the intent of the program, but I am allotted 4 tickets. I will not be able to attend the OU game, but as long as I am not out any money, I would be happy to help someone out that really wants to be there. GMG

Nope...we were their second win coming off the death penalty.

As much as I liked Corky as a coach (only coach that sniffed 500 during our 1-AA years and some big victories over D-1 opponents), this was one of my least favorite NT games ever. It looked like our boys gave up that day, and more crap on the sidelines as some of our boys were letting some of the SMU fans get to them. A few birds were shot, cussing, etc., as memory serves. Not a proud day for the University.

The great SUMG/SUE is on this board, and is now a frequent poster.

http://www.heralddemocrat.com/articles/200...rts/gsports.txt Also found him listed as a weekly mention on one of the HS websites for a game earlier in the season. Blue Ridge keeps Bells winless By Rich Hilliard Special to the Herald Democrat BELLS - Senior Jacoby Gomez rushed for 171 yards on 15 carries with three touchdowns, as Blue Ridge beat Bells, 41-7, Friday night in the District 15-2A finale for both. Blue Ridge (5-5, 2-5) ran for 243 of its 335 yards of offense in the first half, taking a 27-0 lead at halftime. Five of Blue Ridge's first six possessions ended in touchdowns. Junior Brye Morris rushed for 78 yards on 20 attempts for Bells (0-10, 0-7), which totaled 161 of offense with 119 rushing. Gomez ended Blue Ridge's second and third possession with a 1- and 22-yard touchdown run, respectively, for a 14-0 lead after one. Michael Todd's fumble recovery of Bells' first play from scrimmage preceded Gomez's initial score. Gomez had 99 rushing yards in the first quarter, not carrying again until the third. Justin Corbett scored on a 30-yard run with 11:20 left in the first half and then set up another second-quarter scoring drive with a pick. Lance Watson's 5-yard touchdown run cashed in the interception, one of two by Blue Ridge. Bells had a chance to score before halftime from the Blue Ridge 9-yard line, after an 11-play, 56-yard drive. However, an interception by Blue Ridge's Taylor Wright in the end zone finished the half. In the third, Gomez added a 12-yard scoring run with 9:43 left. The score ended a two-play drive from the Bells 12, after Bells' punt went for minus-13 yards due to a strong wind and following bad backwards bounce. Bells answered in the third on its next possession, as Brad Williams ran for a 12-yard score up the middle. Dustin Nolan kicked the extra point, ending a drive started by Dustin Hightower's 45-yard kickoff return to the Blue Ridge 39-yard line. Nick Morgan's 1-yard run and Drew Worth's fifth extra point for Blue Ridge finished the scoring with 2:55 left in the game.
