  1. Not named Joe or Mean, apparently.
  2. Please take this golf thread to the non-UNT Athletics board.
  3. I guess I would SELL the unused tickets, if I was diehard OU enough to support the OSU program with season tickets. But this shows the value of having true RIVALS on your schedule every year.
  4. agree on point 2. He denied knowing about the situation and blamed it on the administration. Said all commits were sent a similar letter (apparently before Jones was hired) saying that the new coaching regime may make different decisions on players, and to pursue opportunity appropriately. Jones said he was unaware of the particulars of the decision on the Tyler kid. Really sounded like a politician (read that LIAR) and blamed it on the administration when pressed, but said that he was comfortable with how the school handled the situation.
  5. This has been covered probably but Jones was hired to take over a team that lost something like half their games in overtime, last possession, etc. 2007 SMU was a better them than North Texas was in 2007 or 2006. Jones took the job because SMU is so close to a turnaround that when he does get this program moving forward, AGAIN, it will further cement his legacy as a football coaching savant. He gets $2mm to take over a program with great facilities and a team that was on the cusp (no, REALLY) of being a bowl team, yet disguised in the cloak of a record that looks like the 0-11 Hawaii team that he took over. Our advantage would be that it is likely easier to turn around a program with low expectations in a conference generally recognized as weaker than C-USA. If the DC comes in and stabilizes the defense and the offense continues to improve like in 2007, we could get our bowl much sooner than SMU. Toss up, but both teams should be notably better next year. Scott Campbell
  6. Apparently has the weekend. Norm speculated that he is using the SMU offer to get as much from Hawaii to stay (his contract with Hawaii is up).
  7. What does Southern Mustang think of Mike Martz, let go today at Detroit? Either he comes here or replaces Jones in Hawaii.
  8. Yes, it would be a real risk to play anyone who challenges us competitively to be better than we are (please note sarcasm). DG: So if you don't want to play SMU, who DO you want to play?
  9. Mixing the old and the new a bit, but the Charlie Brown gang lip syncs Hey Ya better than Milli Vanilli lip synced anything. http://youtube.com/watch?v=n3xCLC3TKeQ
  10. I say we do fireworks after every game...real novelty that way.
  11. Can anyone provide the latest intelligence on what our 2008 schedule will look like? One website listed the below, but my recall says Miami is out, LSU in. Dates? Any patterns from past conference schedules that would be predictive of our future home schedule? Thanks in advance. 8-30 @ Miami FL (believe this is now LSU...same weekend? 9-13 @ Rice 9-27 @ Kansas State TBA @ Louisiana State Scott Campbell Flower Mound TX Class of 1982
  12. Did anyone see how much dividers between the urinals will set me back? Signed, Shy bladder
  13. We must identify that fan...FAN of the YEAR! How great was that? And brilliantly timed with the evening showing. Tomorrow will be a mad house of posters. Tonight it is seen. And thanks so much to the greatness that linked that and gave us the screen shot. Absolutely indicative of the future: GO MEAN GREEN!
  14. Just wanted to thank John McDowell for posting the reminders about the Todd Dodge Show all year. Today, you posted this would likely be the last show of the year...it was! I missed every show this year, mostly work-related, and would have missed this one had the reminder not come up. It was great to see the show, and to say hi to some of the regulars. It was interesting to hear the replays of some of the big plays at the Show. The "crowd" sounds great on the radio! Ian and I went up to meet Coach Dodge....didn't want to whip him too much but commented about getting to sit by his wife at the Ark St game (great lady) and how I have never had more fun being an NT fan. He took time to make Ian's day, telling my 11 year old, "Maybe you will be playing for the Mean Green some day, Ian." Made my day, too! On the way to the car, Ian told me how impressed he was with Coach Dodge, and the way "he explains everything in such detail." We froze our butts off at the game, but we agreed there is no place we would rather be than watching NT play football on a Saturday night. I am already having withdrawals. Others already have said it, but props to the band. They did a great job in miserable conditions...and boy did we need them on that side of the field. I couldn't believe the greatness of Maurice Holman. In fact, all the seniors played out of their minds...true leadership in adverse conditions. Brock Stickler had some unbelievable catches in the first series or two. Aaron Weathers...defensive MVP for the season. Thanks to my Little Brother Jason Peacock and pals for giving Ian and I some "Unspiked Hot Chocolate" at halftime....made all the difference in the second half. I really wish I was better at asking names at the games. I was amazed at a number of people who were under-dressed (not enough warm clothes) for the conditions that stuck it out to the end. I wish I had taken the time to talk to each of the idiots that joined us in those conditions...true hard core! Some of my best times, sadly, have been at games that very few others saw. You just feel a true kinship with these folks that say: "I have 5-6 opportunities a year (sometimes fewer) to see my school play football. I am going to be there." I flew in from a business trip for the Navy game from New Orleans that Saturday morning, flew back that night, but I wasn't going to miss that game. I had a hernia repair on Monday so I would be healed enough to go to the game Saturday. This is not a put down of anyone that didn't show, but I will PRAISE those that were there!!!! I was real impressed with the post game show, the radio show, etc. that Hank and Todd, and George tonight focused on those that are there, not just Saturday but all year! We had a wonderful year, historically, attendance-wise, and frankly, I blame no one for not coming to this last game...but I love those that made it. One other funny comment from Ian, when we walked into the stadium: "There were more here for the Spring game!"
  15. You should have been there...want to join us for the WKU home f'ball finale? Jim and Sue are coming...how about you and the boys?
  16. UNT WIN MN GRN 1 Now, move back to Texas!
  17. John, it was nice to hear that you won the trivia for the second week in a row (may have been more, but I have actually been able to listen to the last two shows). When I heard the question asked, I immediately said Marvin Walker...but did not remember that the year was the year I graduated! Great idea for the sign. Scott
  18. "man this is all we need is to be like SMU and have a sea of Midshipmen making more noise than the home fans." Judging by the section that I am in, if there are more than a few hundred Navy guys at the game, they will louder than our home fans. My section is affectionately dubbed "The Library."
  19. I didn't want to attach this to FFR or the Jamison (can't remember which seemingly random letters and numbers his post name is) post because I think neither thread helps this program move forward. If someone in my company's management team is, IMHO, bringing down the boss...if I like and trust my boss enough, I go discuss MY OPINION with my boss. He can take it or leave it, but if I believe in my boss, I have to think one of two things: 1) Either he knows something I don't and my boss will be fine without my advice 2) He will handle the situation as he sees fit It really is up to him. In this case, I will trust Dodge to best deal with his team, his management team, his career. Every action I have seen from this coach tells me he is highly motivated to be successful here, to be the best possible coach and leader he can be and to win his ASSSSS (in my best Jim Rome voice). I trust the man to make the decisions he feels best accomplish his goals. I am constantly amazed at how quickly it takes this "fan" base to implode. As a community service, please note the opponent this week is TROY, not the DC. Man, the voy board should have never been shut down. As someone who chooses to see a future far more bright than I can remember in my 27 years following the team, I am, Scott Campbell
  20. The same could be said for some of the posters on message boards. Scott Campbell
  21. Thought about commenting on this one, but sometimes it is just better to talk to the parties involved privately. Look forward to catching up with you soon, FFR. Scott Campbell
  22. And I remember how much we embraced the lack of discipline displayed by players from the previous administration. I miss the day of mulitple personal fouls per game.
  23. I am fortunate in that my wife is very accepting. Her answer is, "No, it does not matter (especially for as rarely as you use it)."
  24. Thanks Tasty for spelling the correctly spelling the name of your interviewee. (I am not a spelling Nazi, but if you are going to sell an interview with the guy, you ought to know how to spell his name) Skawt Kambpel
  25. Stupid question...but would this be an age appropriate event for an 11 and 8 year old?? Not the band, but the event. Nice cover of Tommy Tutone. Scott Campbell
