  1. Occasionally, a topic gets started or a comment is made on this board that is based on inaccurate information. Often inflammatory, these topics sometimes take on a life of their own, sometimes cited months or years after they were disproven. This is not a bash on any particular poster or topic...this is a serious question. When bad information gets printed in a newspaper or makes the evening news, those offended typically demand a retraction. Good newspapers and TV newsrooms don't wait for the demand...they fix it proactively. Should we ask the same of ourselves? But, GMG.
  2. The Fake is ALIVE. I hadn't read the high school coaching argument for about 20 minutes. Welcome back. But, GMG.
  3. Rick, The chat says official start is 8:15 but first hits probably won't happen until 8:45. GMG
  4. Agree. (for the record, I could not find the sarcasm font for my post above but it should be read that way) Any business should listen to its customers. Especially when said customers communicate DIRECTLY with the business. However, I don't believe we should take credit for bringing up something through the kind of knee jerk reaction that permeates this board only to find out that the information that caused the reaction in the first place was inaccurate. And I understand that, in fact, many changes have occurred in relation to factual situations, i.e. the purported QB under center, et al. That said, the only regret I have about the improvement we MAY (I believe the word should be LIKELY) see in 2009 is the post we will see from The Fake taking credit for the number of wins while noting that we would have one X more games had we gotten rid of ALL of the high school coaches. But, GMG.
  5. The power of this board continues to amaze: ** 30,000 seats ** Open practices and scrimmages ** College-experienced coaches ** Flexible parking lot maneuvering until 3 pm ** Gilmore took a few snaps from the DE ** Improved Athletic Department website and communication This web-based community, no all Americans, should be proud (insert Eagle screech and patriotic music here). GMG
  6. My recall, from the blog I think, is that Kelvin is back today. GMG
  7. Nothing will ever replace Mark Holtz saying, "Hello win column," other than "Do You Believe in the Mean Green?" of course. But Josh's, "Ballgame!" is sounding pretty good these days. GMG
  8. Got my Fall 2009 College of Music calendar in the mail today. How about an Athletics/Music detente? Dr Bataille brings together Rick Villareal and James Scott (Dean, UNT College of Music) in one of the nuetral Colleges (I recommend the School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management). The agreement I propose is that we gather volunteers from each "side." Each volunteer from Athletics will attend one admission-charging music event and each music volunteer will attend one admission-charging athletic event. If a volunteer from either side typically attends the other's events, that volunteer could add one more event to his/her calendar. I will volunteer, and the Music event I will attend is the Wednesday, September 30 Fine Arts Series Event: UNT Symphony Orchestra with Guest Artist Mariangela Vacatello, Van Cliburn Competition Finalist, WPH, 8 pm, $20/15/10. Both sides increase attendance and revenues. GMG
  9. Only on a message board that allows its posters to do so anonymously do you get this stuff. I can't recall any other source that has said Dodge's job is in jeopardy, regardless of the number of wins. That said, I will bet anyone here $100 that Dodge will coach NT next year. I will donate all my winnings (if we don't get to 10 that will accept the bet, I will round it up to $1000) to the stadium fund if those that win my money will do the same. But, GMG.
  10. MeanMag, I can't say I disagree with your fan type assessment (you must be a mktg grad), but I still wonder about the fan that punishes the entire program (by not supporting) because they have their panties in a wad about one or two events, people or perception that they are not treated well. But, GMG.
  11. Lessons for meangreenbob: 1) If anything remotely positive happens for North Texas, do not gloat. If you do, you will be called on the carpet, tarred and feathered and publicly humiliated. 2) Never, and I mean EVER, project future positivity with the current regime. Let it happen, then see Lesson 1. But, GMG.
  12. If appeal is unsuccessful, Stradford will have 3 years left of eligibility. Last season was his RS, this year will be his FR year, per Bartolotta via chat.
  13. Steven Bartolotta just confirmed via chat that he is on the field, and eligible.
  14. Mean Rob = The power down sound effect from Star Wars (thanks for bringing me back to earth, Rob!) But, GMG.
  15. * Interesting to hear the "how they got here" stories...coaching connections, behind the scenes, etc. * The meangreensports.com blog is a big upgrade in communication with the faithful. Big props to Steven Bartolotta. * Anyone notice the numerous discussions, phone calls that Vito has had with Coach Dodge? * More practices open to the public? * This has to be a difficult time for the cynics (and I mean that with much respect...recent good news seems to be outweighing the negative). I am in the positive camp and working hard to stay contained and controlled about my expectations for this season. The Athletic Department overall appears to be making big gains. Even Coach Dodge detractors might admit the guy seems to be adapting. We are moving forward in many different areas. GMG
  16. Question: It just doen't seem like the "steepness" of the stands is no different than Fouts. I understand that no track equals closer to field, but I had heard it described (by Dodge, I thought) as the "fans would be right on top of the field." The pictures of the stands look like a very gradual pitch, not much different than Fouts. Anyone know? But GMG.
  17. Curb, since Larry Sanders is not an option.
  18. "and is further driving home his point" yes....thank the good Lord that "Kevin" is here to make sure we understand his point. I didn't get his point the first 3697 times he attempted to make it. And what would the board be without the fine work of TTG: "Not trying to speak for Lonnie, but... To be fair, I only hold Bob Stoops partially responsible for one of our humiliating, dispiriting losses in the past two years." Admittedly, I don't understand the humor of the youth these days, but the guy is batting way below the Mendoza line in the post/laugh ratio for me. 0.0979 mild guffaw. 0.0170 laugh. But GMG.
  19. I wonder if Charr knows the great Brandon Kennedy....a Terrell pipeline?
  20. This is not a knock on the staff, as they edited in the interest of time, but the context of my question changed a bit from what I emailed (below): Rick, we all know that the football team has struggled under Coach Dodge. I believe that it takes at least two full years to turn (sic) convert an offense from run to pass (or vice versa). Please give your take on what makes you confident that Year 3 will be the one that moves us forward. In other words, for we who are optimists, what talking points should we be selling our work mates, neighbors, friends and fellow students?
  21. I was listening to a ESPN radio conversation regarding the SEC today. Can't recall the team (and am not inclined to do the research) but the commentator was asked about a team with a first year coach that was implementing the spread. His reply was something along the lines of: "The guy is transitioning a run-oriented team to his spread offense. Don't expect anything for at least 2 years." But GMG.
  22. I applaud the work of these NT students. Sadly, this will not help us in the Director Cup standings again this year. But, GMG
  23. Hope someone runs that one nationally, but in the meantime...I know that photographer...good guy, sits in my section at every single game. GMG
  24. It is a shame that the Firefighter RV had to take 10 minutes plus 8 words to put out another fire started by the DRC and flamed by this board....fires that had been handled and put out months ago. Clearly FFRV spends his days conspiring how to destroy this University. I am comforted that all on this board want the same thing (to make our University great, allegedly) but just have different ideas on how to accomplish it. So, GMG
