I love the discussion that this board affords, but I have always argued this type of arm-chair AD back and forth, in this public forum does not help our program....even if you are right. Know I am in the minority in that...just wish someone could explain to me how it does help. "I care about my school so much and this brilliance that I share with the program, at no charge, helps my university by ______________________________________________________." One other question, to those that were most vocal in the anti-Dickey vitriol: do you really feel your posts got Dickey fired? The AD couldn't figure it out without you? And wouldn't have acted without you? Great work, bruthuh. Flame on, GMG

Your humor speaks so highly over my head, and I am so out of touch with pop culture references, that I am not sure my debut mentions in the MAR are positive or negative. I am going to have to assume you are in the anti-untcampbell camp, as most are. But do I appreciate your many references, here and in the past, and recognition of the inference that is: But, GMG

New Snapshot Of Mean Green Athletics Taking Shape
untcampbell replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
We play our best football when in front of small crowds, historically. Example (granted an n of 1): NT 51 Utah State 48. Pity. I would be very concerned if I was SMU. They are winning more than they are losing. Navy brings a bunch, and SMU didn't outdraw NT. And in the midst of a pretty big marketing push. GMG -
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/274144-...e-time-for-that Who writes this dreck (sarcasm)? Seriously, the writer clearly knows the team, and what we are up against. Anyone know? Or claim it? (thanks to meangreen2018 for finding this article)

Like the Party Pass...worked for Jerry.

Being corrected by Tasty is the worst of all. First he corrects, then taunts with that stupid MJ dancing queen pointing you down like Eric Dickerson turning around and pointing at our DB while backing his way through the last 15 yards of an 80 or so yard run vs NT at Texas Stadium, circa 1982. Or the money I could've saved if I had switched to Geico. Heh (in shrieking MJ voice), GMG

First to clarify, even those few of us who count themselves in the blindly optimistic camp...aren't happy. I am not sure this says anything about improvement, when most measure improvment by wins and losses, but: Top 10 (paycheck) games: 2007 OU #8 10-79, 2008 LSU #7 3-41, 2009 Alabama #4 7-53 (record: 7-0) Mid-major games 2007 SMU 31-45, 2008 Rice 20-77, 2009 Ohio 30-31 (record: 5-2) SBC games MTSU: 2007 28-48 (-20), 2008 13-52 (-39), 2009 21-37 (-16) (record: 3-3) ULL: 2007 29-38 (-9), 2008 30-59 (-29), 2009 34-38 (-4) (record: 4-2) FAU: 2007 20-30 (-10), 2008 13-46 (-33), 2009 40-44 (-4) (record: 1-4) Couple of things that come to mind: Last year was a freaking disaster, huh? I underestimated FAU simply based on 0-4 when they came in here, but they came within 2 points of beating BCS Wyoming (how good would we feel about coming within 2 of anyone right now?). They also looked decent against S Carolina and lost by 2 to ULM, who is now 3-0 in conference and played respectably (?) against Texas and AZ State. Again, no moral victories here, but progress? Looks like it. Sorry I couldn't figure out how to spreadsheet this so that it was easier to read the three-year numbers but, GMG

Fake, serious question for you: Do you subscribe to the philosophy that if a team is losing, it is only the coach's fault? You have been anti-Dodge since day one, even when he didn't have the talent to compete (my opinion). Now, I think most agree that our talent pool has been upgraded. Tonight, the secondary plays off the receivers more than anytime this season (except maybe Alabama). And you want the Secondary coach's head. Leads me to a couple of other serious inquiries: ** Why do these kids that are contributing to the upgrade in talent want to come play for such "bad" coaches? ** Why have we suddenly opened up the "transfer pipeline?" ** We acknowledge it is ok for referees to make bad calls, but not coaches? We accept players that make bad penalties, throws and fumbles, but coaches can't call the wrong play every once in a while (and I do disagree with the screen call in that situation)? Do the coaches hold fumbling drills during practice so the players will be better at it, coach players to make penalties at untimely moments, drill interception into our QB's heads or encourage poor route running? Saying all of that, I have to admit to you Fake, 4-26 is becoming increasingly incredulous to see. Makes it awfully hard to be Mr Positive. But, what the hell, GMG

If Nothing Else Game-day Tailgating Rocked
untcampbell replied to KingDL1's topic in Mean Green Football
I bring my kids and attend with other families, and we always set up in front of the bounce houses on the practice field 2.5 hours before game time. I am going to have to make an effort to come out 5-6 hours before and meet some of you guys, and find Ski! -
Is Td Able To Evaluate Talent ?
untcampbell replied to houstonmeangreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Cam has a hamsting injury...the ESPN 360 broadcast discussed it late (they didn't know it) last week, and proactively this week. By the way, did anyone see the block that Micah laid to pave DCarey's first college TD. Beautiful. -
Things I've Never Seen In A College Game Before
untcampbell replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Football
The "ways" to lose discussion was had in our group also. I resolve, as one of the few blindly optimistic posters left on the board, to not predict another win until we win another. Reverting back to positive, I will be there everytime they turn on the lights. Side discussion: ** I wear green boxer shorts every game, my good luck shorts, and pretty much the same NT shirt (shirts on cold days) and hat every game. Is it time to get new shorts, shirts and hat? ** Is my mental and quiet aside jinxing our team? Is it me? At 13-0, I looked at my buddy and said, "I won't be optimistic until the 00:00 shows and we have more points than they do." Last week at ULL, I went over to a ULL fan when we were up by 10, and asked if fans were allowed on the field after the game. He, thinking we were contemplating storming the field after a win, said, "I wouldn't try it. They have strict security on the field until after all the players are off." I said, "Oh no (kind of trying to humbly put the guys at ease), you guys are going to ultimately win the game. I am just checking to see if my kids can play football on the field after the game." He laughed, nervously. But (sighing), GMG (semi-unenthusiastically tailing off at the end) -
If Nothing Else Game-day Tailgating Rocked
untcampbell replied to KingDL1's topic in Mean Green Football
My buddy Dan was in the same frat as Ski, and we talked about what happened to the Tomato. Please, pizza Jesus, tell me the Tomato has reopened?!! Or is Ski just cooking from home and bringing pizzas to the game? If you know how to contact him, please PM me and I will buy his stash next home game. GMG -
I think one reason "most GMG posters" don't acknowledge the difference in student enrollment between the two schools is that the city of FW is much larger in population than Denton. Also, in relative terms, FW (especially the wealthy Paschal, Colonial, etc neighborhoods) EMBRACE their University unlike the way many in Denton view its Universities. I predicted 24,000 before I went in based on the high numbers of fans tailgating and difficulites I heard about from friends trying to park. When I got to my seat, I dropped my prediction to 20,000. The family zone section was fairly empty, maybe because the barrage of bird caca that must have been deposited sometime Thursday night or Friday. If the numbers hold up, that crowd last night ranks as #5 all time at Fouts. I would have guessed the 1990 SMU game, pre-stadium expansion, had more people than last night. I recall vividly, as I looked down at the student side entrances from the top row, that it was totally packed on the student side and still hundreds of people working there way into the stadium mid-1Q (late arrivers: some things never change). Officials Blew This Game And That's Not Overreacting
untcampbell replied to NorthTexan95's topic in Mean Green Football
The difference in the game? When we gift them, they open the package (fumbled KO, fumble by Tune, 3 offensive starts near or beyond midfield because our kicker kicked it out of bounds). When we get gifted, we don't (the blocked punt we get). If we score from inside their 40 after the blocked punt, we go up by 10 in th 4Q...well, maybe we don't win in that case. GMG -

Save the Monday Morning wrap up. JD just about covered it all. GMG -
I was unaware, until this piece, that he is a NT grad, 1990, assuming while he was coaching here. I thought he came here so his wife could get her Masters, but he got is undergrad also.

Texas Knew Where To Play Riley And I Agree.

The Fake is back....another in a long line of posters on this board that "threatened" to never return. Please, future quitters: don't say it if you don't mean it. Instead, quietly walk away without a dramatic exit, quit posting, lurk daily and wait for the day that someone notices you are gone and posts a "What ever happened to (insert he who has been notably absent)" thread. When you see your name, begin posting again, usually rehashing the rhetoric that sent you away the first time, and repeat process. Welcome home, Fake GMG -
Made it to a couple of ULL/NT hoops games in the past but this will be my first football game down there. Love Lafayette through adult eyes, but not as knowledgeable with the kids in tow... Will have my 13 year old son and 10 year old daughter. The early plan is to leave Flower Mound at 5:30 am Sat morn. Get to Lafayette for lunch: ANY SUGGESTIONS? Hope to get to the game by 3:00 or 3:30 pm, and find the NT tailgate tent. ANYTHING IN LAFAYETTE I NEED TO SHOW MY KIDS BEFORE THE GAME? After the game, will be driving to Alexandria...using points for the hotel. Driving home Sunday mid-morning. Missing anything? Thanks, and GMG.

The Eagle1855 post is a nice one. The friends that come to games with us enjoy Saturday football (even THAT football), but they enjoy much more: Saturday tailgating on the old practice field (whoever maintains that grass should be promoted). Bounce houses. Beth Marie ice cream. Brats and beer. The pre-game pickle. Watermelon at the tailgate...better than watermelon at home. Football games on the old practice fields (see the grass comment above). The free "stuff" that is given out at some of the booths. The music. The people watching. Hanging out with buddies, past and present. The band coming through...twice. The absolutely scary look that TDodge had on his face when he came in, hooked arm in arm with his team, during the player walk through the tailgate. Boomer. The dancers (vote Holly). The Family section. Kettle corn. Debating football strategy....lots of fodder for the debate. Kids holding up signs trying to get on TV at many of our games...guess I will have to buy them a firefighter helmet. The halftime on the field for the JMGC members, and their buddies. The hint of a comeback in the 3Q. The fireworks (though I violently disagree with fireworks after a LOSS). Post-game football on the field. And a couple of weeks of anticipation until the next one. But admittedly, I have assembled this crew over many years. I talk about NT football a lot. When no one else cares, I am still talking. When they want to talk about their school, they know I will outlast them about mine. They know I care...and have started caring also. I get emails during games from non-alum friends in MO, OH, UT, GA, noting the score with the frown or the happy face and knowing that the weather is bad when it is. Always Be Closing. Get them to the game...again. GMG

I had 22 in our group. 3 alums, 1 BU grad (wife), 1 MTSU grad, 1 AZ State grad and lots of kids. All have become regulars, who weren't before. All had a great time. Only 1 enjoyed the outcome, but all enjoyed the experience and all will be back in 3 weeks. Yours lemmingly, Scott Campbell GMG

Take off the green colored glasses for a moment: Honestly, which one would you vote for if you didn't have any stake in this game (and you don't)? Holly is clearly the best choice (code word for hottest, in case my son or wife reads this). GMG
