My impression is that he is uptight because his competition gets better access to the key players in this soap opera, meaning Vito has to work harder to get what he gets. Healthy competition, as was said earlier, is good for all of us. GMG

My Qb Spotlight On The First Day Of Practice
untcampbell replied to GreenLegend37's topic in Mean Green Football
Agree with SUMG...if you are reporting, then a source is reasonable. If this is a blog, maybe not, but if it is your opinion and not hearsay from a coach (sounds like you have more than one that told you something), you should state that. Is there an editor that proofs the story, or do you post this on your own? Thanks for sharing your perspective. One thing I was unaware of: didn't know you could listen to old games via the miracle of the podcast from the KNTU website. -
Those who really pay attention to this type of thing: Is this any higher or lower number of walk ons than normal? How about the quality of walk on this year? Is there a future Fortenberry in this group? GMG

This may have been said earlier (didn't take the time to read the entire thread) but I don't see any way we hit the magic number (is it 6 or 7) unless we beat either Rice or Army. The Rice game is the equivalent of the Ohio game last year, discussed in another thread). If we can turn that game into a win, I think it has a way of propelling us. NT must do whatever it takes to avoid 0-3. See the victory!

On the next page, there is a picture of some guy with a NT jersey playing cricket or something, rounding third base. Also brought some good memories of the NT Rugby team.

Joined his HS team last fall after moving from Paradise to Graham and finished the season as a starting wide reciever. Case McCoy was his QB. Played WR/DB. 195 pounds, not sure of height. Sr stats: 45 catches/802 yds/17.8 ypc/8 TD's/17 tackles/1 INT/2 FC (third in receptions, second in TD's). NT coaches told him they would redshirt him this year.

Catching Up With Unt's Last Two Players To Commit

Is Coach Canales recruiting Tonga, by chance? Hawaii? The Mid-Cities? GMG -
The way I will look at it is this: I have been clamoring for a new stadium since at least the Corky Nelson era, including my approx 1989 proposal to build a U-shaped stadium with a high-rise hotel to close the U (hotel guests with rooms on the stadium side of the hotel would be charged for game tickets and be included in attendance). Now I have been given a stadium. I need to be involved in the funding of that stadium. My Club Level donation will help fund the stadium, and they are giving me a couple of really good seats, with extras, to the games as a gift back for my donation. And on we play one of those season finales on a really cold, wet late November night, I will be especially happy with the gift the school gave me for my contribution. Be a part of the solution. GMG

We have a Soph that has already made a verbal? And please provide more insight on the future commitment pitcher, Madison Thompson. Great video, kelleygreen...keep posting! A wish, or an actual. What is not to like about a smart, talent rich Junior? GMG

If it hasn't been considered, and not knowing the proximity of the pavillion to the stadium, is there any way that a "gate" can be assembled at the entrance of the pavillion? This would require "attendance" at the game, whether or not pavillion'ers ever make it into the stadium. What you think? GMG

My school, and those that support it, stepped up and built us a new stadium. Now we have to do our part to pay for it. I hope is that those of us that put up the jack for club seats will enable the university to continue a pricing strategy that allows casual, "off the street" or non-UNT affiliated fans to be able to attend games at a reasonable price, i.e. family section, etc. Of the group of 20-25 with whom we typically tailgate and attend games, at least half did not go to NT and attend because they enjoy being with friends, seeing college football at a price they percieve to be a good value. I think we will get new fans that want to see football, hopefully winning football, in a first-class facility. But I do think there is a contingent of fans described above. To maximize "butts in seats," I look forward to seeing a price structure that can accommodate the high-toned all the way down to steerage. GMG

I have been put at ease ever since the Fake assured us all is well, now that Coach Canales is here. No reason to discuss how many wins it will take to assure Dodge's job. The guy has been right about everything else he posts, so I now bow at the alter of the Fake. GMG

A$M played the game of chicken perfectly, to the tune of $20 mm/year. The stakes aren't as high here, obviously, but Flyer is right on. GMG

I have been overseas for the last week, and missed most of the current discussion, but have been thinking along the lines of E4L. Didnt we go through this already? Instead of Super Conferences, we called it Division 1-A and Division 1-AA, or majors and mid-majors now discussed in hoops. I could handle competing weekly in the less-than-super conferences, if our conference mates include SMU, UH, Tulsa, Louisiana, Ark State, Rice, UTEP, Tulane, NM St. or some such. Furthest roadtrip is an inexpensive flight to El Paso. Competitive regional rivalries that can be sold to a FSSW or similar. Other regional LTS conferences (WAC/LTS, MAC/LTS, etc) compete via playoff to crown a national championship. (yes, I understand the danger in being segregated into a Major/Non-Major alignment but I believe a side effect of the 4 super conference alignment, done to max income, is to avoid the embarrassment of a TCU/Boise-like outsider actually beating a BCS team for a national championship) And while everything is changing, how about a $1.5-$2 million mininum game payment to any LTS team that body bags itself into a game with a SC team. I have always felt the collective non-majors have not done enough to leverage the value of giving these majors a week off and a guaranteed(?) win. Unless the majors are moving to a 12-game schedule against the absolute best 60 teams in the country, non-majors provide a great service for the majors and should be compensated appropriately. So perfect, so unlikely.

I am uneduca†ed when it comes to GMG.com code words and emoticons, so would you just do me a favor, CBL (not that you owe me)? When the news breaks to the uneducated masses, would you identify the news as the one called "Player"? GMG

Agree GrayEagle, but don't discount the fact that many of our younger fans come to NT having played or watched football in nicer high school venues than they get from the old grey lady. GMG

About as much as I miss root canals and premature... Seriously, I have been to close to 150 events in fun-filled Fouts Field and will fondly say farewell when we finally finalize football forever. There are things I am curious about regarding the new stadium, including: ** the attention the school will put to accomodating tailgating (and those who like to stake a claim and put down tailgating roots in the same area) ** are solutions being identified to turn tailgaters into game-gaters (wins help)? ** will the athletics department feel compelled to trick up the new stadium with the traditional after-loss celebration we call fireworks? ** whether the birds that apparently vacation over Section H will move to the new stadium (and in which section of the bird flu lottery wheel will said birds land?) ** how close to the field will the fans be, and will their noise remain in the stadium, and how will said noise affect play on the field? ** will Kettle Korn make the trek south? ** will mid-level Mean Green Club donations merit a green-colored rainsuit gift instead of an umbrella that can be awarded (at the stadium!) to he who donates so generously but not used at same stadium? ** will there be dividers placed between urinators in the men's room? ** will monitors placed above the concessions work? ** will the ticket office designate some sections of the stadium as standing and yelling sections so that fans who choose to do either will do so among fan friends, not enemies who chose to do their evening reading at a football stadium instead of a library? ** how likely is it that I know some rich alums well enough to get invited into their club level suite? ** will the old Fouts Field scoreboard (the really old one) be given a proper burial? ** will the deteriorating, maggot-infested corpse of Fouts Field be left standing to remind us of days gone by, or will that last previously mentioned post-game fireworks incorporate some sort of non-radiation bearing explosive that effectively dismisses the old girl? Will the answers to these and other questions provide sweet respite from the post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD), cold sweat sleep interuptions that so befittingly describe my recall of Fouts Field?

King, I dont have the exact seats but we added 8 seats to the four we have in Section H. Four next to the ones you have listed, moving toward the end zone and four in front of the original four. Also, can you add in all of the bird crap that Section H gets doused with? I am confident it happens only a few hours before kickoff, as surely the stadium crew would clean it up if they were given enough advance notice. Probably doesnt help Deep but I am taking my family to NYC for the first time, and going to the game as part of the 3+ day weekend. Using points! But when I was looking at alternatives, I think the Army athletics website had some transportation options, including trains from NYC, flights into nearby towns (across the river from West Point), etc. The drive from NYC is less than 2 hours, if I recall correctly. gmg
