  1. Eagle89, There are many that will chastise any subject that appears on the board. I think it is human nature, not reserved for internet message boards...complain/focus about what you don't like, forget to praise what you do like. The weird thing about reading this board is those that post to the negative side get most of the attention...I can't help it...my eyes and replies can't overlook, drawn to respond like a moth to light. If you look closely, you will find those that see the good, if any good is to be seen. And by the way, while this isn't cheer related, look at the turnout our girls get when one (I think this is usually dance-related) gets nominated for the occasional, and I am paraphrasing here, "hottest of the Sunbelt, then national" contests. 2. During many games, the alumni section is Fouts Field Library, Southwest Annex. But that did not seem to be the case at the KSU game. Good crowd, lots to cheer about. One question for NMBNTC: Is there an unwritten rule to cheer only in front of certain sections? You guys always seem to be in the same place. The Family Section down in H has a lot of kids, and a few loud adults. Any issue with you guys spending part of the game in front of different sections...you may get some action if you move to a different table. GMG
  3. Didn't see this discussed on Saturday, but Channel 8 had a very nice story (with glowing after-talk by Debbie Denmon) on Fouts Field's last game.
  4. I would assume their are quite a few ISU alumni in the FW/D area. We will be playing in a new stadium next year. I invite all who have posted, and any with whom they connect locally, to join us as the DM era unfolds. Thanks for adding us to the list of your favorite teams, cyrocks. Said it elsewhere, but I can think of just one ex-head coach at NT that we would take the time to follow for years after his last coaching gig, then make the effort to praise the guy where he got his next HC gig. Hell, I can only think of one NT head coach that got hired as a head coach anywhere else, period. And lets lobby for a future NT and ISU home and home! GMG
  5. Canales was all over the field last night, and I liked it. Fun to watch him chasing Chancellor in that clip. Nice to see him searching for TDodge to get him while out on the field during RDodge's medical timeout. Exciting to watch him screaming "30 minutes" to his boys during halftime warmups as we came off the field from JrMGC "welcome backs." This Coach is totally involved....nice! And to get to watch two weeks in a row of BC kick off returns, after 140+ games without a run back....priceless!
  6. From his UF bio: Responsible for the rebirth of the Iowa State defense, as the unit ranked among the Big 12 Conference's leaders in total defense in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005. ISU's final 2004 total defense mark of 329.4 yards allowed per game was the school's best effort in nearly two decades. The Cyclones allowed 44.8 points per game in 1997; however, by 2005 the figure had dipped to 18.5, which ranked second in the Big 12. GMG
  7. If God was rumored to be our next coach, some of you would complain that He can't win in Denton or is under-qualified or shouldn't be considered because he allowed Katrina to occur. Iowa State was historically a door mat in the B8/B12. It is the second-best (of two, for all practical purposes) state school in Iowa. He inherited a 0-10-1 team, took a few years to change the culture and put his teams into a number of bowl games. His 2000 team won 9 games, something that had not been done at ISU for 94 years. The guy has recruited in a number of different markets. His Hayden Fry affiliation alone should move the sports pants of any North Texas fan pre-1978. He has won 50 more college games than the last guy RV hired. At least some ISU fans thought enough of a guy that stepped down four years ago to provide a ringing endorsement on the guy's behalf. His coaching skins come on the defensive side of the ball. A good defense, in this conference especially, wins. In my mind, he is at least as qualified to coach this team as anyone else mentioned. And by the way, none of us know who was interviewed, who wanted to coach here (other than Canales), what money was offered...we know nothing. And that is probably the way it should be. Let's see who the coach is and give him the obligatory one-week honeymoon before we start ripping his guts out. GMG
  8. I always spoke highly and with great compliment any time a girlfriend left me....sounds like jilted lover syndrome. But, I guess I am reading the posts wrong because most speak pretty highly of the guy. Blame my green colored glasses, I guess. GMG
  9. The Sunbelt is in better position to pull NMSU and LT out of the WAC than the WAC is to get NT, or other similar schools. Push those two hard to join this conference. Then we start thinking about what will be left from C-USA when their best start leaving. GMG
  10. Doing it the hard way...leave early with the kids on Saturday morning, get home late that night. GMG
  11. Agree CE. I voted option 2. I acknowledge this is just speculation, but I think it is a worthwhile exercise to question where you think the team would have finished had Coach Dodge finished out the year. Then, put that up against where Coach Canales finishes. The exercise gets to some fundamental questions: Does passion from the top matter? Did the changes that Coach Canales put in place, which appear to have affected the attitude of the team as a whole, matter? Does attitude, self-respect and "lock the gate" matter? Or is this all just coincidence? Same players and assistants (adding a couple of players coming of injury), different head coach. Did he make a difference? GMG
  12. Sadly, this thread has derailed into a critique of Plummer and, even sadder, I will join in. I used to give Plummer negatives for over use of emoticons, a constant change of font and color, general clutter and consistent grammatical butcherings that hurt my eyes to read. Some might say a -1 is an overreaction on those grounds. Now the guy has truly earned mass spillage of red ink. And worse, he finally got me to respond to his bombastic, uninformed drivel. To paraphrase Michael Corleone, "just when I thought I was out, he pulled me back in." Signed, Not Canale's wife, son, daughter, mom, dad, cousin, aunt, uncle, distant relation.
  13. Unfortunately, they have the score correct.
  14. I am just getting out of my meeting. Yahoo stats says Nathan Tune passed 2 times for -13 yards, and ran one time for 7 yards. ????
  15. Any idea what that player never opens for me? I am in Vegas at a meeting. Everytime I have opened the link, I hit the play button and nothing happens. Thanks. GMG
  16. As another aside, Canales just twittered he is going out to talk to recruits NOW. Love this guy. Passion.
  17. Passion, conviction and want-to can take a guy a long way. I would like Coach as my boss, coach, mentor...Who wouldn't want to be a part of what he is selling? GMG
  18. Nuts and bolts (repeated twice, with the popular "we got screwed" refrain) was an old favorite of the 1981-1982 Talons. Nice. GMG
  19. Smart coaches negotiate the most important salary: their assistants. I hate SMU, but I LOVE June Jones....man gets the best assistants rich SMU alums can buy. GMG
  20. Agree Shaft. We should only rip the guts out of those that we have under contract. Never, and I mean EVER, should we rip those that aren't committed. But, GMG
  21. It is kind of like AIDS. Once you have it, you can't get rid of it. It used to bother me that I am permananently set at 20% but you eventually carry it as a badge of honor. On the other hand, apparently only you see your own warning status. It doesn't show up to other users. GMG (and congrats on taking down OU last night....this, the weekend before Halloween weekend, has seen a lot of Devils go down)
  22. Honestly, I have been shedding tears...after Elvis caught the out in Tampa and now after Feliz K's the devil. I pull for the underdog...it is in my blood. I tell you that I have caught at least a piece of every game this year. And for the last 39 years, through internet, radio, tv and newspaper, I have followed this team through bad times and bad, good times occasionally...Mark Holtz was my hero as much as the players, then Eric. My son took his first pitching lesson from Wettlend (sp?) and I have played poker with Pavlik. O It is the one professional sport I can afford to take my entire family. And now, my team is in the World Series. If this loser can do it, then why not the Mean Green?
  23. Just announced on the Ticket under the"Breaking News" sounder. George commented: He made his own mistakes (high school staff), but program was way down from what people know when he took it over. But I have more respect for him now than when I first met him. Heartbreaking because I was never more sure that it would work out for him.
  24. It was planned, as the scoreboard big screen thanked the sponsor of "tonight's halftime fireworks." I also am thrilled that we no longer celebrate losses. Instead we celebrate a break. The band, by the way, played well enough to deserve better than a few sparklers. Please fully eliminate this "tradition." GMG
