  1. In any other year, I venture to say Ms Cole's gift would have topped the headlines. Can't wait to see her name in the program. Thanks Serena Cole! Now come play in gomeangreen.com 9 next year! GMG
  2. The Tomato is 15 minutes up the road in Sanger....great pizza. The Love Shack is much happiness...very cool venue, interesting burgers and a change of pace french fry. Near the square and a block from Roosters, Fuzzy's and a host of other new places. Beth Maries has a location across from the Homewood Suites and there are other restaurant options out that way. Think Chuy's may be open by game day. Pour House is pretty good also and there is a good chinese place out there called Cafe China. One of my favorite restaurants, nice bar also, is Hannah's. A bit upscale for a football weekend, but very good. And if you want a good kolache, Kolache Haven off I-35 at FW Drive is good. Lots of sweet options next door at Candy Haven. GMG
  3. Some of his best games were in that city! GMG
  4. This is not an anti-previous administration rant....that is too easy. I pretty much tend to support he who has the job, and he who hired said jobholder (debating whether that is right or wrong is reasonable). The point is to connect. And this Coach gets that. GMG
  5. If so, an observation... As much as I encouraged my kids to take part, I wasn't on board during the Dodge years. A frowning, stoic coach in sunglasses led a group of 4 or 5, holding hands, none smiling and none interacting. Followed by a bunch of seemingly uncomfortable players that just didn't appear to want to participate. The band appeared to be having more fun, for goodness sake. Contrast that with the walk at UL. Police cars blaring sirens to announce the team's appearance. Fans lined up for better than 1/4 mile. Players high-fiving fans all the way into the stadium, smiles on the faces of players and fans. Almost appeared mutual: fans thanking the players for giving them their best. Players thanking fans for coming out to see them. Advice to he who coordinates the pre-game spirit walk: We, players and fans, are on the same team. Your success is our success. Together, we are better. "Help me help you." GMG
  6. No nonsense, not flashy...reflects the coach's personality. GMG
  7. Anyone see if Brian Waters found a home? GMG
  8. I don't think they allow cars, SE....walk through barn only. GMG
  9. One thing to note: Mobile is a great town and will be a fun road trip when we start those with USA. Mardi Gras started there....it is New Orleans Lite. Fun town, and some nice beaches nearby. GMG
  10. If only Mean Joe Greene's number were lower, we would have ranked higher....coincidence? GMG
  11. Took an after dinner walk here in the cool air of Idaho, listened to Diamond Talk and 15 minutes in, they get the news. Not sure if all of this is true, but even more tragic in this incident: Son witnesses the accident...dad trying to catch a ball for his son. Fan in the stands said he saw the victim going over and attempted to arrest the fall. Victim is a Brownwood firefighter. Victim was conscious after the fall and asks the paramedics to make sure someone takes care of his son (at the game). Oakland TV (Comcast) caught the incident on film and chose to air it one-plus minute after it happened. FSSW had access to Comcast' feed and chose not to air it. Victim went into full cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital. Tears and prayers for this family.
  12. Thanks boys....great weather in Idaho was my birthday present. USA rules!
  13. Thanks Rick for pointing out that Gringo was The Fake. Gringo, I had no idea but enjoyed meeting you and talking to you. This was one fun game...I am very grateful to the pros that came out this year. At 50, I am less sore this year than last...my boss will appreciate that. I learned you don't get sore if you don't play! Mark, your efforts have taken this game to new levels...from game quality to facilities to auction to fundraising, I am so appreciative of your passion, your positivity and your energy. And thanks to KRAM 2 also. Very nice to see RV come over and invite all the participants to tour the stadium. And to Smitty, thanks for capturing the lovely Jasmine in the photos. GMG
  14. Confession: In the past, I have disagreed with the Fake. No news there. But I have to admit the guy was right more often, way more often, than not. Didn't always appreciate the presentation, but even I can now see much of his "don't shoot the messenger" diatribes regarding Dodge were spot on. Fake, if you call this one right, I will deem you "Mean Green Genius" and more importantly, buy you many beers in New Orleans. I look forward to meeting you at GMG.com 8. GMG
  15. Zelig (Woody Allen, 1983): "Documentary" about a man who can look and act like whoever he's around, and meets various famous people.

Just because it didn't land doesn't mean it wasn't a good line

  17. Not sure about a timeline, but I got an "external" tour of the facilities (we didn't go into the new stadium), and our tour guide pointed out that the Mean Green Village has land dedicated to a future baseball stadium. It is probably in the master plan paperwork that shows up on the site once in a while but it looked like it is planned for that vacant land just north of the softball field almost directly across from the football stadium. Just that they proactively mention it is positive to me. GMG
  18. Would suspect that the boys are putting a lot of thought into all facets of game day presentation. It is a great stadium, but atmosphere has always been an issue at NT games (blame it on Fouts?!) and it doesn't just happen. GMG
  19. North Texas' next big media star...well done, Kayla. GMG
  20. Foat Wuth, ah luv yew! GMG
  21. Maduro, my IZOD collar is up and I will be knocking down some pops with Tony Romo after hours tonight. Think I am in his wedding, I said before jumping out the 14th-floor window. GMG
  22. Maduro, (I wasn't trying to give you crap...just a follow up to your prior post) Don't sweat it! All sight lines are good in this place, from what I hear. I had the equivalent seat at Fouts not too many years ago, and it sucked! BTW, the kettle corn is worth the investment. GMG
  23. I have never been comfortable with the argument that, because one gives more, he or she is "entitled" to (fill in the blank of what a big donor feels entitled to). Maybe I am naive, but I believe a lot of fans, and especially those on this board, find so much value in pulling for their school that they give what they can afford, or even a little beyond that, or an amount that correlates with the enjoyment garnered....kind of like those who support their local NPR station. I give a relatively large amount to NT athletics (it would be considered Maduro money if we were talking UT or A$M), but then again, I am 28 years out of school, have been blessed with an annual salary approaching 53% of Obama's definition of wealthy and truly feel joy and satisfaction in supporting a "charity" that clearly needs and appreciates my help. And when I get something in return, say an occasional win in football, a cool T-shirt or satchel from one of the Olympic sport coaches for supporting that sports fundraiser or an umbrella that I can't take into the stadium, I humbly offer my sincere gratitude for the lagniappe. GMG
