I have always thought the words were (and still sing it that way): "Down the corridor of years, we'll drink lots and lots of beers..." But that is the most beautiful version of the alma mater I have ever heard. Thanks for sharing. GMG

Scoreless through 3 against a team that is now 44-7. Ashley Kirk gave up a lead off hit, then got the next two. Walked two to load the bases. Error, I believe at SS that would have gotten us out of the inning, let one score and we followed it up with a PB and a WP to score two more. Offense struggled to get anything going off a really good USA pitcher. Kirk finishes the season with a school record 177 strikeouts and is back for her senior season next year. Only 2 seniors this season: Brittany Simmons, who got the complete game victory vs Troy earlier in the day, finishes 9-9 on the season; starting RF Lesley Hirsch, maybe our fastest player, is the other senior. Lots of freshman starters this year. Should be fun to see how they compete in CUSA next season. Great season, fun to watch these girls. Have not gotten to see a walk off grand slam in person until the game against UTA (final home game of the season). GMG

Simmons has struggled recently but came through when we really needed her. Nice game for the ladies. Tough game coming up at 5:30 but they have played well against the tough ones most of the year. GMG

(perhaps we need to move this thread, or start a new one on the FB board to get some traction, but I am really grateful to RAGEMASTER5000 for a great idea) I reached out to Coach Hubbard to see if he would like to be involved. This is what I got: We can play the game at Lovelace! He may be able to get some alumni to play, and possibly some of the coaches. I asked him if we could play the game to benefit Mean Green Softball, and he would appreciate the help adding a few things around the stadium to make it better for recruiting. Coach Hubbard may be able to help us get some items for a silent auction, i.e. signed batting helmets, game jerseys, etc. Just thinking out loud, but it would be fun to see how us guys could hit fast-pitch softball collegiate level pitching....maybe, before or after the game, we could raise some money by selling AB's against an alumnus pitcher for $0.50/pitch, or some such. I will try to reach out to Mark Miller to see if he would mind organizing the game...we need a date, t-shirt design, captains, umpires, etc, but we got the field! GMG

Yes. And I would make an effort to see of Mean Green softball would want to be involved. Not sure what you have in mind, but perhaps we can make this a fundraiser for their program or a cause they support, i.e. Wounded Warriors or Leukemia/Lymphoma Society? GMG

From meangreensports.com: Taylor Schoblocher hit a walk-off grand slam to lift the North Texas softball team to an 8-7 win against UT Arlington on Tuesday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium. That was our freshman catcher's tenth home run of the season, by the way. What a great way to end the home portion of the schedule. Lots of kids played today. I enjoyed talking to the Everly's after the game, and took home a couple of autographed batting helmets from the charity auction. Ladies play a game at SFA tomorrow before heading to Troy for the SBC tournament, May 8-11. GMG

Ashley Kirk wins all three games, two the no-hitter route, as NT swept ULM this weekend. In Saturday's game one and Sunday's finale, NT run-ruled ULM, both by an 8-0 score. Ashley through no-hitters in both games. She pitched 11and a third shutout innings in the three games, and struck out 16 while walking 3. In game two yesterday, NT fell behind 6-0 early (4 errors in the first two innings) but the bats got us back in the game. Ashley came in and pitched late and picked up the win. Lots of homers in this series, as NT scored 8 runs in each game. NT moved into fourth place in conference, 25-22 (12-9 SBC). WKU, USA and ULL, all very strong teams, lead the conference. Only two seniors on this young team. Last home game of the season is against UTA in the annual Play for Kay fundraiser game. Great time of year to go to the ballpark, get some sun and see the Mean Green play one of the spring sports. GMG

Women soccer beats the Devil. Women tennis takes its last SBC title. And NT softball completes the trifecta with a sweep of Middle. Great weekend for NT women sports. GMG

They played that at the Eagle Emerald Honors tonight. Great program and Drew Pearson did a great "homage," as Peter Weller called it, to MJG. The marching band came down the aisles from the back, got to the front, turned to Mean Joe and played the fight song. Have to say it was the best version I have ever heard...Meyerson acoustics, I suppose. Great evening for NT. GMG

NT takes 2 of 3 in Boca to move into 3rd place in the conference. Lost the opener, and won the next 2. Coach TJ picks up career win #150. GMG

NT softball beats OK State 4-3, snapping OSU's 12-game win streak. Road victory against a Big 12. Nice job, ladies! Jordan Terry knocks in 3 with a single and a HR and, I believe, Simmons picks up the win with a gutsy save by Ashley Kirk. GMG

I spent the weekend with family and didn't get out to the ballpark, but in spite of that (or possibly because of it) NT softball had a nice weekend. In a real up and down and down and up and up series, NT took 2 of 3 against Troy...a late inning meltdown in game 1 kept them from the sweep. Ladies were down 6-1 in game 2 and put up 7 runs to take that game before run ruling Troy in game 3 10-2 in 5 innings. Freshman catcher, Taylor Schoblocher, had 3 home runs over the series. Ashley Kirk moved to 6-4 with the five-inning complete game, striking out 10. Brook Foster went .625 for the weekend and freshman Paige Kisling got her third triple of the season. This is a young team, but NT scored 26 runs in the three games. 7 of the game 3 starters are freshman or sophomores. NT moves to 14-12 on the year, 3-2 in the conference (4th place). 2nd place FIU's (4-1) lone conference loss was against NT last week. Last week's split with FIU were both low-scoring one-run games, 0-1 and 2-1. GMG

And from twitter: DENTON, Texas (3/8/13) - Due to concerns about the weather, the North Texas softball team is moving up its Saturday doubleheader to 11 a.m. at Lovelace Stadium. The doubleheader against FIU was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. The Denton area is expected to receive heavy rain on Saturday afternoon. The Mean Green is hoping to get at least one game played, starting at 11 a.m. North Texas is still scheduled to play on Sunday at 12 p.m. The two teams may play a doubleheader on Sunday, depending on Saturday's outcome. The ladies open conference against FIU with a DH on Saturday, starting at 1:00 (second game starts around 3:00). Sunday game is at noon. My estimate for crowd would be about 250 in the stands for most games, but there are probably 100 more that park along the outfield fence and watch from their pick up, car, etc. I have seen games where the stands are packed. The team plays with grit and enthusiasm. I enjoy watching them and the game atmosphere is fun....lots of on-field banter. If you get a chance, see Ashley Kirk pitch. She has this unique pre-pitch routine...a skip/hop to the back of the circle after the catcher returns her the ball, then a hard transfer of the ball from hand to glove as she moves to the pitching rubber. Does it every pitch. Love her attitude. Ashley had 14 strikeouts in a game last weekend (the second or third time she has done that), not bad when you only have 21 outs to get. The girls are getting the bats going, and coach is getting more pitchers into the game. Hope to see you there. GMG

A very good man indeed. I sometimes questioned his actions (eluded to by Gray Eagle), but just loved this man for his kind, inclusive, approachable and unpretentious nature. He treated me like a big shot when I was giving much less than I do now (I was no big shot then, and am not now). A toast to you, Fred McCain. GMG

NT softball shuts out a good Texas State team yesterday, and beats Texas Tech today. GMG!
