  1. You answered your question with your handle, BadKarma. GMG
  2. I fell head over heels for UT as a 9-year old when it won the national championship (1.1.70). Wore burnt orange for the rest of my days until I got to UT. I learned quickly it wasn't for me. Too big, too many topsiders and starched shirts/jeans and too far away from my girlfriend. In January 1980, I transferred to NT based on proximity to my family/girlfriend in FW and the time I spent in Denton with a former girlfriend's family (Jeff Hawkins, et al). The first NT sporting event I saw was NT vs UT in basketball, I believe a few days before my first class. May be embellishing but NT beat UT with a buzzer beating shot from near half court by the great Pat Hicks, winning in OT (may have been more than one) something like 107-106. I was hooked. My first football game was against UTA in the Fall of 1980. We dominated in the opening of their new stadium, a few short years before they gave up football. Joined Talons, built bonfires, drove the bell around campus before games to rally the dormies, shot cannons, participated in parades, trailered the Model A to away games, was a beertender at the RBL, delivered pizzas for Domino's, J-school grad, and the roommate I met at NT introduced me to my wife after we both graduated. Wife is a RN-grad from Baylor, but went to art school at NT and is pretty loyal now. And props to the great Peacock for mentioning our BB/BS relationship. I am very proud to see his talents selling North Texas recruiting kids to NT. My brother graduated from NT also, and we are the only college graduates our family has ever produced. Until we moved to Colorado in 1994, I made at least 9 football games a year. When we returned to Texas (I missed NT, er my family, too much) in the Fall of 1996, I took my son (meangreen2018) to his first home game when he was 6 months old). He has not missed a home game since he was born and will be starting at NT in the Fall as one of its most dedicated fans. My step-nephew is a J-School/Photo major. My son and my daughter have brought at least one friend to every game since they were old enough to have friends. Some of those friends will attend NT. Some won't but they remain fans. My tailgating crew consists of the parents of some of those kids, none with previous NT ties (one has a daughter attending now), along with NT Letterman Jeff Katon and his NT grad wife Rina. Jeff played in the other Rice game we won before this year's win. On weekends when we compete well against or upset, i.e. Georgia, I get texts from all over the country from friends, co-workers and family members, none of whom went to NT, who know how passionate the Campbell's are about our team. I am so proud of my school, of my teams, and the student-athletes that play for my school. I am humbled by those that support NT through my connections with them. I am elated my son will be here for the next 4-10 years. And I very appreciative of the time waste that GMG.com affords me daily. GMG
  3. I never got under the stands to see how things were going, but was disappointed. We brought lots of candy to our tailgate. I guess it wasn't smart to think that the kids would go from tailgate to tailgate to trick or treat, but somehow, I was expecting it. We had some schtick, banter and repartee ready for the droolers. Will save the material for back in the hood next year. There were a few kids dressed up in our section (Family Zone, duh)...probably should have brought our candy to our seats! GMG
  4. Boston did its part. Let's do this! GMG
  5. I am sure this was covered in another thread but can someone clarify what is planned for the Halloween game, i.e. pre-game trick or treating among the tailgaters, etc. Anything else specific to the youngsters? I am working on getting my brother to bring his kids to the game....and then they bring two friends, and they bring two friends, etc. Thanks to all. GMG
  6. I believe it is an overseas site that links televised games from all sports, including American Football, on its site for no cash charge. I used it to watch the game yesterday....it posts more than one link and I got it to work on the third link. Lots of junk ads but I persevered. GMG
  7. That is Louisiana, FFR! Have a few post-game pops also! GMG
  8. And 4-3 for the first time since 2003. Starting to shake some bad stats and going places that we haven't been in a while. Getting fun. More fun ahead. GMG
  9. http://www.cbssportsnetwork.com/ Just past midnight, and the banner across the top highlights NT v LT, and BS v Nev as tomorrow's games. Zach Orr in the starring role. GMG
  10. Tulane beats ECU today. Maybe that team has a little something...we should have won, but I am glad they got this win. GMG
  11. The players that George and others interviewed, Trice and Y'Barbo...good dudes. Represent our school well. Coach, it is hard not to like what you are throwing down. I wouldn't trade this coaches show for any other NT coaches I have gotten to hear (caveat: never heard Fry). I trust it will translate into W's...and in my world, it already has. Save your smack about how coaches shows don't mean nothing on Saturdays. Otherwise, flame away, my vitriolic pals. GMG BTW, I truly admire he/she who vents on Saturday night, and then embraces the future, like next Saturday. Said it to my son/daughter on the walk to the FQ...I always felt better about Middle than Tulane. Any game that everyone says we will win, especially a road game, is a game I fear.
  12. Easily the best city in America to lose a football game. And the best city in America to win a football game. I did my usual anti-social gig, hanging with my kids. I am not such a good fan to sit by...so ADHD-overwhelmed by it all, that I find it difficult to converse, but I did enjoy hanging with my "little brother" Peacock. And it was nice to hug Brelan's mom after the tying touchdown. Pre-game at Joey Z's on Magazine, post-game at Pierre Maspero's on Chartres and Cafe Du Monde. Then went and looked at the Halloween lights off St. Charles. As many losses as I have seen, I will never get used to it, but it is an absolute joy to be with my family on these road trips. GMG
  13. Great back story on my friend Peacock. I will let him tell you some time. Saw you on TV celebrating the blocked punt! Ian got accepted to UNT the day of the Ball State game, Jason. He is touring the school with two Marcus buddies the morning of the Middle game. Hope he gets to see you also. Jason, Ian, Emma and I will be in NOLA also. See you there. GMG

  15. What was wrong with the HERATOI ? GNG
  16. My linking skills mirror this guys anchoring skills, but maybe the link will show up. GMG http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W45DRy7M1no
  17. I didn't get up there yesterday, but I looked up at my seats on the Club level a couple of times, and it seemed like that was the fullest I have seen the Club stands. Was the Club indoors area busy also? GMG
  18. So if you record a game on DVR that goes beyond the three hour window on the TV guide, does the recording continue until the game ends? Thanks. GMG
  19. Apogee is loud. Make it louder. GMG
  20. My 3rd annual family (and a few friends) BBQ has 79. A few can't make the game but I bought 52 tickets. In addition to our normal crew of 14 and a few comps a Letterman got for his crew, we will have 75 in sections 110 and 112. 30 will see their first game at Apogee, most their first NT game ever. 8 are NT alums, students or future students. 4 moved here from California a month ago, and have never football tailgated before. 3 are coming down from Fort Sill. Two of those are West Pointers (and are seeking Mean Green revenge for the Ball State beat down of Army last week). 2 are Letterman. 1 of the Letterman is back for his first NT game in 20 years. A preacher, he is bringing a fan full of kids "who need to be exposed to the college experience." 1 is a NT senior who will see her first NT game. 0 have expressed dismay that they will miss the Aggie game. GMG
  21. Sorry SSP...thought you were John's mom. Not many Schilleci's out there...I trust you are related somehow! GMG
  22. Always appreciate the player's parents point of view! And by the way, those parents that become lifelong fans even after their son has moved on are appreciated even more (example: Kokjohn family). Keep posting. Believe it or not, THIS board is considered pollyannish by its critics. All views, from the half-full to the half-empty, equal the sum of the story. Hope your son is enjoying North Texas...and by the way, thoughts and prayers to the Guyer family are still in play from this fan. GMG
  23. Thanks guys. Have you considered approaching KNTU about airing your fine work, especially the "post post game show?" I never get in the car before George and Hank are done for the night. Would be nice to turn on the radio and hear you guys offering some NT talk on the ride home, and it is considered more social to listen to the radio in a car full of folks than sticking in the ear phone and listening to an app. GMG
  24. John Reeder is in NYC, 82nd near Broadway. Has been for about 20 years. Wife and daughter. He joined me for the Army game a while back. GMG
  25. I don't remember, but I know you never forget...so yep, Mr. Rick, you got me pegged. You are truly my go-to guy whenever I need to corral my optimism for my school. GMG
