  1. No doubt football coach makes a ton of bucks but I think his predecessor was making the same. GMG
  2. 5. Alabama administrative assistant Linda Leoni ($101,160) makes more than an assistant football coach. North Texas safeties coach Perry Carter makes $100,000. Income inequality rears its ugly head again....#sarcasm. GMG
  3. My Apogee dream is to fill the Wing and get a picture: Since we will not likely do it in a conventional way anytime soon... First game of the year: Spread the word that at the start of the fourth quarter, everyone in the stadium gets up from their seat and makes their way to the Wing...and slowly, completely fills the Wing from bottom to top. GMG
  4. BG: "Green teams secondary looked suspect several times vs our QB3 (DW). That's concerning." There should be nothing concerning about your number 1 QB playing well against your number 1 defense. GMG
  5. Great story. And the Denton/North Texas connection has almost as much upside as Kevin. Compelling story to this point...I look forward to seeing how it unfolds from here. GMG
  6. And NT baseball club took a weekend series from Baylor's club team. Swept SMU last weekend! GMG
  7. So if baseball never happens (and I would guess that is more likely than not), softball never gets its upgrades? I hope you are wrong also Rick, but I am not on board with adding baseball if it will just be another underfunded Spring sport. GMG
  8. I didn't get to follow much of the action this weekend (via twitter) but the Freshman pitcher Monique Garcia appears to be getting more comfortable in the circle. Pitched 4 innings of 1 hit ball, giving up no runs and striking out 3, in today's shutout. Defense again played error free ball in this game. Not sure what their schedule looked like to this point, but FIU came in 20-11 on the season and was swept at home. NT moves to .500 on the season, 6-3 and 2nd in C-USA's West division. GMG
  9. Maddy Thompson goes the distance. In the bottom of the 7th (final inning), she gives up a leadoff walk, then a single. NT defense gets a double play. Runner advances to third. Batter chooses to swing on a 3-0 count to end the game. Great defense that made a second inning RBI double by rifle-armed Catcher Bryana Wade stand up. GMG
  10. I was in Miami this weekend but @MeanGreenSB was tweeting so much, I thought they were sending duplicate tweets in error! Not easy to keep count of homers when you get past, say, 2! Then you would get the deep to right teasers that looked like they were announcing more homers. I understand the pitchers started going inside on her, then hit her and there was a glare down! #SCHOtime had a slugging percentage of 2.167 last weekend....looked pretty funny beside Gehrig, Ruth and Williams career slugging percentages in the .600's! Props to @UNTStrength for the off-season conditioning! GMG
  11. Earned POY in two days! GMG
  12. The top section seems a bit off. Players on ship in that section appear to be 87. Under the 1 year remaining column, would players on ship (21) and walk ons (10) equal total players? Great resource. Thanks! GMG
  13. Hmmm....posted end of day yesterday. I edited the story to the pertinent information. GMG 27 EMCC Players Ink Scholarships Posted: Wed 4:11 PM, Feb 04, 2015 By: EMCC Media Relations An additional five players from East Mississippi Community College’s 2014 NJCAA National Championship team officially put their signatures on National Letters of Intent during Wednesday’s national signing day activities on the Scooba campus. Joining EMCC’s prior signees who inked during the mid-year signing period for junior college transfers, a total of 27 players from the Lions’ third undefeated national title team in four years are set to continue their football careers at the four-year level. As a two-year starter at linebacker for the Lions, Cain (6-1, 215) capped his EMCC career by being tabbed NJCAA All-American First Team after ranking as the team’s third-leading tackler with 55 total stops and tying for second on the club with five pass interceptions, including two picks for touchdowns. Heading to the University of North Texas, the 2012 Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) Class 3A Defensive Player of the Year for Hazlehurst High School totaled 118 tackles and eight pass interceptions during his two seasons at East Mississippi. 2014 EAST MISSISSIPPI COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYERS MOVING ONTO FOUR-YEAR UNIVERSITIES DEMETRIUS CAIN (6-1, 215, LB, Hazlehurst [MS] HS) – University of North Texas
  14. I suspect we are working with him to find him a spot. His tweet today indicates he plans to join us. Indicates to me that we are talking with him about the best way to do that. By the time he can get here in the Fall, we will likely have a spot. GMG
  15. Will be replayed later. GMG
  16. Would like to know Billy See's bio. Excellent insight and spot on with his backgrounders. Salute! GMG
  17. The De-commit brings us back to our high school homecoming days, when Mary-Jane Rottencrotch told you, "Yes, I will be your date to homecoming," then De-committed when your school's equivalent of Johnny Quinn asked Mary-Jane if she would go with him. I suspect there is a hard sell before coaches put that kid back on the plane home...some probably feel the obligation to say yes after a weekend of college hospitality is hoist upon them. Very difficult for anyone to build a concrete, unbreakable emotional connection with a school he doesn't know much about over a weekend, but it happens. But the De-commit is a regular part of college football...even amongst the "the elites." GMG
  18. Dillman is the only TE on the list. Was ranked #30 on the Area Top 100 list at one point, now #79. So very happy about this commitment. UTSA's listing is #100, and was NR until this latest update. SMU has 4 on the list, including 3 WR's, and a few listing SMU as offers still undecided. Noticed TCU has 11 on the list, including 4 of the 8 listed as Athletes (two of them listed at 160 pounds). Got to admire the recruiting philosophy and talent assessment in FW. GMG
  19. Type in the Easton Bruere name in Twitter and fans from Kansas State, Kansas, Texas ( a lot), Richmond, Middle Tennessee, Colorado, UTSA, OU, Ball State, etc are urging their respective coaches to get him an offer. I am happy for the kid. The article garnered 1,000,000+ hits. The offer(s) will come. GMG
  20. I suppose ALL athletes will get a little stipend under their pillow, not just football. Yes? GMG
  21. I assume you know that we didn't look at him, seeing that we don't have an OC opening at the time. But Utah State is likely better funded than NORTH TEXAS. HC makes more at NT but AD and first assistant make more at UTAH STATE. USU has ~20 listed on its coaching staff, including GA's. We are closer to 15. USU plays its in-state "elites" regularly, and beats them fairly often. I would equate them to Texas Tech more than North Texas: only game in town, great media coverage, excellent campus setting, community pride. I would be thrilled if North Texas achieved Utah State's market place, community value and pertinence in college football's hierarchy. GMG
  22. I like the realist tone you get with Sean...anti-Dave South. But come to think of it, I am not sure I have heard him do actual play by play. Sideline work and Diamond Talk provide more analysis than description but I think he is capable and qualified. GMG
  23. Just a great reflection of the University's RTF program that we have the options we have. Bass, Phillips or Emrich ...but I love Followill (probably too busy) and Barnett, and Bartolatta does a great job. How about Byrd for the supporting role! GMG
  24. Would immediately become my favorite conference road trip. GMG
  25. Also, a decommit by its nature infers the player didn't want to play here or found someone else for whom he prefers to play. Clearly this has been the case with some of our decommits, but not all. When it is a mutual decision, i.e. we encourage the player to open up his search, the inference of player's decision remains. In fact, we are giving the guy advance notice that he should look at his options. Looks negative regarding our school but in fact is doing the right thing for both player and school. GMG
