  1. G5 schools should get together and set a minimum price (probably some legal way to get around the price fixing element) that these schools will take to play a P5. And it should be a lot of money. I suppose this would just cause the P5 schools to change the rules to play (even) lower tier schools and bypass the G5's but fundamentally, playing 12 games against P5 level competition will ensure very few will make it to the playoffs physically unscathed and undefeated. If they want weeks off, they need to pay richly for them. G5's let them off the hook when playing P5's at anything less than a couple of million bucks. I say $3 million should be the starting price based on the gap SEC teams get from the playoff pool vs what the SBC gets. GMG
  2. NT night was probably the last one, as I believe TTU had its night already and I know TCU had its night. My guess is OSU had the highest sales, as the Ranger rep mentioned they were out of hats about 30 minutes after the gates opened and encouraged us to get there early. GMG
  3. Mike Smith, an asst AD who was at the table described above, told me that Rangers said NT sold the second highest number of tickets for the University Days series. Not sure if NT night was the last in the series or not. GMG
  4. We have 7 seats in section 9 (LF corner). Ticket office warns that hats could be gone by 6:30...even knowing that game doesn't start until 8. Hats are apparently near gate 30 on the 1B side of the stadium. There are in/out privileges if you want to go put your hats in the car, etc....imagine that. BTW, Rangers got a lot of complaints last night because OSU 'sold' out their hat allotment. Rangers do not control this. The schools buy the hats (2000). GMG
  5. I voted Corky just based on his "victory" over Texas alone....and the Rice and Tech wins that year also. GMG
  6. So Billy what I saw (all offers listed) yesterday afternoon was inputted after the commitment was found by meangreen15 and then seen by Brett? Brett then informs 247sports and it gets posted yesterday, but doesn't show up on a lot of devices until today? The profile I saw yesterday had Deion ranked by something like number 316 in the state, and some other numbers that I can't recall. GMG
  7. Not an official source but I am hearing 3-5 years. And yes, apparently it is at least partly related to the unraveling of the above-mentioned fiasco. GMG
  8. This may be old news that I missed, but I heard today that new, allegedly permanent, concession and restroom facilities will be built this summer to serve the soccer and softball fields. Good news and bad news, I think. The softball coach before Kee told me his biggest obstacle to overcome in recruiting was the poor facilities around the ball fields. It also may be an indication that baseball is further away than we hoped, as the new baseball/softball facility was to provide a common concession/comfort station to serve both fields. GMG
  9. North Texas used to host keggers for fans before the game, including students back in the legal age of 18 days. They were held in the parking lot that was adjacent to the north end zone at Fouts. My recall is that it was Bill Vogel that hosted. He and Ruth certainly never missed one of those, if he wasn't hosting it outright. Nice guy, great fan and always smiling. Saluting you, Mr. Vogel. GMG
  10. I would like Billy's perspective on this question: Who would you say is the biggest impact recruit that we offered early, influencing said player to shut down his recruiting early, that everyone else decided not to offer because we offered early and the player outwardly said he was shutting down his recruiting early? Grammatical errors intentional. GMG
  11. Just checking....do we have facts yet on why he is not with the team? Speculation and then speculation rebuttal sucks. On the other hand, no one is wrong if you don't know the facts. Maybe DW goes to Nicholls State. Probably set a bunch of records against their defense and could go for some records with their offense. GMG
  12. We played at Mack Park, on the same field I played church league softball. Let's just say that stadium amenities were lacking. In spite of that, I enjoyed watching my team play and say 4-5 games/season while I was there. My recall is that the team was allotted 2 scholarships, split amongst the players. That is basically a Big Chief notepad and coupons to McDonalds. I would not support another underfunded effort to field baseball, just for the sake of funding another collegiate sport. But these days, we seem to figure out a way to provide adequate or better facilities and to be competitive in the non-revenue sports. GMG
  13. Or maybe it is that she is staying at NT to get her degree, and not playing elsewhere? GMG
  14. FYI, par was 69 today as they shortened a hole by about 200 yards because of the condition of the course. GMG
  15. Dani Hoff (@dddanihoff), in my mind the (co)-star of the parents dedication to players video, tweeted this piece of gold this evening. Kids like this should be given as much eligibility as they want. For the record, I couldn't be prouder to be a Mean Green Softball alum and I couldn't have asked for a better coaching staff. GMG
  16. I am just a fan and see only what is on the field. No behind the scene connections. Got a little insight from a former coach of one of the players but other than that, I don't know much. I saw no diminished enthusiasm on the field or on twitter. Big props to Dani Hoff. Never reduced her chatter level...but that explains Dani more than anything else...vibrant, team first, a source of support no matter what. Question is if internal conflicts with coach explain the mid-to-late season slump. Waiting for more facts and hoping for the best. GMG
  17. Ah adversity...I missed you, adversity. Pulling for you, ladies. GMG
  18. I couldn't find any listed sanctions imposed by the NCAA on ECU softball after coach was fired. Heard that an important booster brought the complaint on behalf of his daughter, a player on the team. I remember RV saying he vetted Coach Kee and was satisfied with what he learned to make the hire. GMG
  19. I heard a rumor SchoTime was not coming back before the last home game of the season. I did not know the breadth of the departures, if the news that started this thread is accurate. Really hope this team, already losing senior leadership, can come together. GMG
  20. I like GMG24's idea....I would expand this database to include Alumni busines owners, season ticket-holding business owners and those who are both. And that should be publicized in every place that North Texas students, alumni and fans commiserate and congregate. Support those who support your school. GMG
  21. Mark, Do you know if the softball upgrades are related to the team hosting the CUSA conference tournament next year? Hoping work will be done before the season starts obviously. Thanks, and GMG.
  22. This made me proud for the University of North Texas and grateful to our student athletes and their families. Very nice of the families and the athletes to peel back the curtains a bit and confirm why we pull so proudly for our kids. GMG (not sure if the link will come through as video, but here is trying) https://youtu.be/B8LHe9vC1m8
  23. KRAM, were you offended by Coach asking you to show up? I buy season tickets to football, never miss a home game and try to see 1-2 road games/year. Show up for 1-2 basketball games/year. I would assume he is not talking to me about football and talking to me about basketball. Either way, don't take it personally fellas. Nothing wrong with asking for the business when the customer is sitting in front of you at a free (?) event. GMG
  24. It sucks. But I didn't start supporting this collection of teams because it had tons of fans or was the cool thing to do. I supported because I went to school at North Texas. After I graduated, I supported it, and still do, because I am an alumni of the school. Sometimes the humans that make up the leadership of the school make me proud. Sometimes they don't. I am the constant whether joined by a lot or a little. This school has given me much more than I have given it, and I am confident it will continue to do so. I love my school and I appreciate the hard work these students put into their team. That won't change. GMG
