Why not just fly it over the Admin building, circling the residential areas of campus, on any given week day, maybe during the lunch hour? More people will see it, including the guy you want to see it, and most will be moderately sober at that time of day. GMG

Agree with Wardly on this. Your free speech rights are safe with me...I am just commenting on the potential effectiveness of the tactic. In your letter, you might mention that you had committed $xxx to the purchase of the Fire RV banner, money you will hold for a contribution to the athletic department upon, and not before, Mr Villarreal's dismissal. (and if you must make public your disdain for, and demand for action against, Mr. Villarreal, I like the FIRE RV t-shirt form of protest much better....better chance your butt will be in the seat.) It's Happened Again...a Violation Of Your Privacy
untcampbell replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
I would take it as a compliment that anyone in the Athletic Dept thinks you are important enough that he or she needs to respond directly to your complaint. As I have said before, I have outlasted every person who has worked in the athletic department. Sometimes it takes longer, MUCH longer than I would hope before some of these guys move on, but I will endure and so will my school and its teams. GMG -

neal.smatresk@unt.edu is the one I used. Respectful, thoughtful, articulate. Make it personal, as in how this affects YOU. I hit the schedule, the winning percentage of hires in the Big 3 sports, etc. But also took time to recognize the accomplishments and progress made during Rick's tenure. GMG

Highlights from McCarney's Final Game at NT
untcampbell replied to UNT 90 Grad's topic in Mean Green Football
Can anyone diagram the reaction after the TD catch by Harris? CH slams the ball into the turf without letting it go. MSmith comes up and gives CH a hug as does Tucker and all three just drop their heads and walk slowly back to the bench. Rentfro comes up to high five CH and CH doesn't acknowledge, as two other OL walk up, see the Rentfro interaction and retreat. And I don't think DSmith came over to CH after the TD toss either. I have never seen reaction to a TD like that and am not sure what I am seeing. No celebration, complete resignation and shame, it appears, and it was perfect. Fade to black. GMG -
McCarney Buyout to Delay Baseball Yet Again?

And one of those 3 was announced as committed in 2014. GMG -
I came back to my tailgate last night to find someone, well intentioned I am sure, from my tailgate crew placed a sign at our tailgate. Says "Best Damn Tailgatin' Crew In North Texas." We were at our best yesterday but we don't deserve this laud, especially ill gotten. If you will let me know whose it is, I will make sure you get back your sign Thursday. GMG

Homecoming Tailgate - Beverage of Choice
untcampbell replied to NTAlum09's topic in Mean Green Football
This season has inspired a new pre-game tradition at our tailgate. It used to be the pre-game pickle got us ready (after a Miller Lite or two). We have added a shot of Tallisker Storm, single malt, off the Isle of Skye. I may be talked into a second shot. GMG -
BBQ brisket, porkloin, sausage, bologna, armadillo eggs, baked beans and whatever the 50+ joining us are bringing for sides/desserts. My favorite game of the year. GMG

I have a dream. Soccer, swimming, cross country and volleyball play during the Fall. Women's basketball, tennis, track and field, softball in the Spring. Forgive me if I missed any. When football and/or MBB fail to do anything, we designate one game from one of our winning sports as Mean Green Winners day and provide the same game day experience for fans as the "revenue" sports, i.e. tailgating, giveaways, fireworks after a score, band, kettle corn, etc. Imagine 10,000 football fans going to the soccer game instead of the football game. Or 1,495 basketball fans going to a tennis match instead of hoops, giving fans that normally go to a football or basketball game a taste of winning. Just overwhelm the venue and cram as many people as you can around the game of choice. What it would do for that designated non-rev sport, and its players, would be pretty cool also. GMG

MGB: McCarney says there is no such thing as a "gamer"
untcampbell replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Smith's arm strength is obvious. But what I saw of him, he looked like he needs to get his sea legs under him. Reps. Reps. Reps. That McNulty looks good against THIS defense is not that surprising. That Smith doesn't is. With all due respect to a banged up, short-handed defense. GMG -

Welcome to NT. I have attended games since 1980. My son is a sophomore at North Texas and, because of our mutual love of the Mean Green, he never considered going to any other school. Whatever you think of the leadership in the program, just know that if you stick around long enough (after your kid graduates), Leadership will be gone...and your team will still be your team. This board is a great outlet for Mean Green fans. You will not 50 or so avid posters that really care. There are more than that that lurk, post occasionally. Amongst the 50, their are 5-10 glass half full guys, 5-10 glass empty guys and the rest that get pulled either way depending on how bad the loss was that week. Those that most hate the direction of the program are likely the loudest on the board. It is not as toxic here as reading this board would indicate. NT has a relatively large number of fans that pay attention when the team starts to win....i.e., they flit in and out of the Mean Green universe every 5-10 years, wearing a NT shirt they bought in New Orleans in 2002. They don't know about this board and likely don't give money to the program but maybe to the school. And those that were here the whole time, I have to admit, smile when they see what this place (or the Cotton Bowl or the Superdome) can be like if we ever commit to football in a big way. In the mean time, I am proud of the fact that we don't cheat (if we do, we are just as crappy at cheating as we are building a program). I love my game days here, with friends and alums and current students. I hate that my club seats go unused 360 days this year. 359 I could live with, but not 360. As for the club, I am fairly awkward around people I don't know, yell too loud when something good or bad happens and bought the club seats and the fees that accompanied it at opening to do my part to help fund the building of the stadium. It will take you a while to fully understand the history of neglect and apathy that got us to where we are today. If we were winning, I would say we have turned a corner, based on facilities, a more concerted effort to get students involved earlier (perhaps Coach Mac's greatest attribute) and that the money, though still small compared to most Texas teams, invested in the program is increasing. Hopefully these positives will be reflected in a consistent winning program. I think the most discouraging thing to most of here is that we don't see the program going in the direction we want it given all we have to offer now. No coach, no administration has had as much to "sell" as this program has now. We have a great place to play. Games should be played (by my team) more than five times per year, against teams we want to see. Period. I hope to meet you at the game...and I hope this team gets into your blood, good or bad, in a way that has become a life long obsession for many of us on this board. GMG

And we were probably a better team when we were at that level. That argument could be made....my recall is we played body bag games more competitively back then. GMG

Transferred from UT in the Spring semester of 1980. First NT game was a January 1980 game vs Texas in the Super Pit. We won dramatically and I was a diehard from that point on. Haven't missed more than a handful of home football games since other than when I moved to Colorado for three years. My son is a sophomore at North Texas and never wanted to go anywhere else. My daughter is considering North Texas with a few other schools in cities she would prefer to live, i.e. New Orleans, etc. GMG

If we weren't ranked for this game in the top 5 in turnover margin and bottom five in TOP (these rankings are not verified, just a guess on my part), I would feel better about the prolific offense the above numbers indicate. Even if there are numerous reasons a player might put up numbers outsized from their statistical norms, it is always fun to see your guys listed as a Top Performer. Props to both for rewarding the faith of their respective fantasy owners. GMG
