  1. Congrats on the move to The Colony, and new coaching gig. My wife was a school nurse there before the internet. Need you to recruit hard for us there, bruthuh. GMG
  2. By given everything, I assume you mean their fans have been given everything. UTSA football was a well-funded, community supported program from the start. It's reason for being was purposeful from its inception. The athletic department and administration have been coordinated from day one. Being born with these advantages means you're are evolving from a higher starting point. NT is evolving also. It has had its moments but you get the feeling its "moments" were by sheer luck. We have a reputation to overcome. It is reflected in the answers given to the question of "Who is UNT's football rivalry?" And it costs a lot more (monetary, building trust among alums, students, donors, and a myriad of other costs) to overcome a century old reputation. Evolution takes time, and we started from the football equivalent of amoeba. GMG
  3. Will always love that pic, Harry. This should be a one pic/gif topic. You have Damien Thorn, with his shirt unbuttoned to expose a hairless/toneless chest. Fashion faux pas, dude. Celeb sighting: Kirsten Dunst, front right, exploring via oral orifice the smegma that lies beneath the french manicured nails. Ryan Lochte made an appearance also....front row, scoping best place to piss on the field sometime during the third quarter. And that dude, center stage, that has a question mark permanently floating over his head, illustrated so beautifully here. His law school professors see the same look daily. One bit of advice to the Freshmen on the back row in the red sunglasses. If you have a choice between the Vuarnet's and the cheap plastics with a logo stamped Kroger or Peruna or whatever the hell that says, go with the Vuarnet's. GMG
  4. Just great work, Brett. I live in FM, but if I pay for no other edition of the DRC in any year (I buy when we win so I bought one more edition last year), I will always buy this one. A toast: to a year in our very near future that I buy 12 editions. GMG
  5. The season's success rides on Poppy's Kettle Corn being available (I believe I am safe in saying that as I have never seen these good folks go negative, and they have had plenty of cold November/losing October nights to complain). GMG
  6. Rivalries are forged in a number of ways. Teams hate each other, usually because one assumes an elitist position over the other. Think UT over A$M. UT believes its neighbors to the East are hicks. One team has an inferiority complex as it compares itself to the other. Historically, UT was THE state school. A$M's good ol' boy students disapproved of UT's starch-collared, button down, daddy-gives-them-a-Mustang fans. City vs country, law/oil vs farmer/engineer. Epic games. Ok, we are lacking in this area but 2014 sure qualifies to me. Fans that care. Lacking on both sides. Our passionate fans outnumber, but pale financially to, our neighbors to the South. So using this grading system, we don't qualify as an Aggie/Longhorn level rivalry, or even a TCU/$MU rivalry. But hell, Central and Western Michigan's think they are rivals. Let those that want a rivalry, and think we have one, call it a rivalry. BTHOSMU. GMG
  7. Number 302. Defense gives up 4 SHOTS, no goals. Opponents scoreless through three games. 4 nil vs TAMU-CC GMG
  8. My Claw? GMG
  9. Number 301. Defense gets another shut out today...1-0 vs ORU. Erect the Hedlund statue now. Living NT legend. GMG
  10. Scheduled around 3:30...players on the field at 3:10 (but last update was yesterday afternoon) They scrimmaged in the rain earlier this week, so my guess it is a go. GMG
  11. One thing I believe can be said: we won't be changing our game times to 11 am on an early September Saturday or playing on a Halloween Tuesday to accommodate ESPN3. GMG
  12. Gray, you are one of my favorite fans, a dear man and a good friend. Enjoy many more. GMG
  13. We interrupt the predominant tone of this board for a moment of positivity: For the record, there are handful of teams (maybe 2 or 3 that played more than one game against Boise) that can boast a non-losing cumulative record against Boise. North Texas, 3-3, is one of them.* You may now resume your regularly scheduled negativity: So you know I am capable of it, 11,648 saw NT beat Boise 17-10 on the hallowed Field they called Fouts that day. I can report the pee wall was fully functional. I spelled GMG in cursive on that wall every time I used it. GMG *Fact Checker gave me 1.5 Pinocchio's. There are not many, but more than a few, teams that have a non-losing record against Boise, including Northwestern State but not SMU.
  14. I am not educated in the matters of law schools, lawyers and whether either is needed or not, but it does seem that poor people need legal representation that the prototypical lawyer graduating from Harvard or even Baylor may not want to provide. Maybe the mission is on track, but not realistic. Maybe the implementation of the mission is not on track yet. Maybe this type of mission, so unheard of in Texas, has yet to be fully baked. But I am not convinced that an effort to meet the needs of a niche student substantially unserved is an embarrassment for the entire UNT System. GMG
  15. My timelines were all messed up....with football practice starting this week and soccer last week, I thought CC would be up and going as well. Anyway, I emailed coach for an update on the fundraiser and she got back with me FAST! Come out for the community run if you can. Women's and Men's Cross Country competes before the run so you will see one of our best teams compete also. GMG I edited and quoted from her response below. Good luck, Mean Green Cross Country and thanks Coach Slekis. Her email enthusiastically thanked those who donated to the training camp fundraiser. They met their $4000 goal and hare heading to Arkansas mid-August. An update in meangreensports.com should be up soon. "I am so grateful for all the support our fundraising campaign received. We had incredible alumni and other supporters give to make this trip a reality for our student-athletes. This team training camp is going to not only have a great impact on both our team's 2016 seasons, but will also make a huge impact on our student-athletes' experience that will last through this season, the year, and even after they compete their final season at North Texas." All who donated $125 or more will get an email soon requesting T-shirt size and orders will be placed with the shirts for the upcoming community run on September 17. Instructions on when donors can pick the shirts up will (or have them mailed) will follow, when the shirts are ready. "Thank you again for your e-mail, donation, and continued support of our program. Please let me know if there is anything else I can get back to you on for the upcoming cross country season." Go Mean Green! 16. I am on this board. So Coach, you don't have to come by my house. Let's meet at Cristina's Flower Mound. I will buy you a margarita. GMG
  17. The waiting list for dorm space is currently over 100, and was near 200, for the Fall semester. They say the waiting list is usually accommodated in full, but more space and options will be welcomed. GMG
  18. That plus one is earned from the headline alone. BV is bringing such good news today! GMG
  19. I love this also. Collectively, we need to keep growing this family, and the connections that are borne from it. GMG
  20. My apology for the redundancy title to this thread title. I don't recall doing it that way, but I had probably had my glass of wine when I posted. GMG Go Mean Green
  21. TF, that was really my question. I took a cursory look at prior RV bios and his obituary (from NT) and they never listed him as VP. Let us know if you find something different. GMG
  22. (Apology if this was discussed elsewhere) I can't recall previous NT athletic director's holding a Vice President title. If Wren Baker is the first VP AD at North Texas, this appears to be an outwardly visible advance in the commitment the University is making to Athletics. Am I mis-reading it's significance? Either way, this is an overwhelmingly positive hire for North Texas at a crucial time in the evolution of CFB, from the view of this unapologetically positive NT fan. Welcome Wren Baker and family. GMG
  23. I enjoy the dulcet tones of Adam and Greg, and appreciate the off season baNTer. Always appreciate the efforts and insights of our NT podcasters. Thanks to all. GMG
  24. Second for Candy/Kolache Haven and Mr. Frosty, and props to you both for suggesting these Denton institutions. When I opened the Putt Putt Golf and Games in Denton, Candy Haven was my birthday cake vendor. And they are still my favorite cake. Mr. Frosty is our after game hangout (I usually have lots of kids with me). Number 1 son recommends, but I haven't been yet, Dix Coney Island. Open 24 hours, a rarity amongst Denton's non-chain food joints. He eats the breakfast, usually pancakes, any time of day and reports the price point would make this Scot a happy diner. Can't wait for football season. GMG
