  2. Horrible football team at Russia State, but they are trying to get a Kiffin to change that. GMG
  3. Ever get the feeling you are being played. Like daily? GMG
  4. Watching guys play for the love of the game is tremendous also. I need to get to more of these games, but it is great to get another conference champ at NT. This team beat a lot of schools many of us don't like so much. GMG
  5. Oh what we could do with an athletic budget of 250 million!? GMG
  6. That it didn't have any officers and meetings had an appeal because "I don't want to belong to any club that would accept me as a member." -Groucho Marx
  7. Hope wifey is driving....or inputting these important GMG.com updates. GMG
  8. A corollary to #5 in ipd054's very appropriate list of rules: do not throw beads unless party expecting the beads provides the view. This cheapens the currency for others bead distributors negotiating views.* * Respectfully offered by an experienced, but retired, bead thrower. GMG
  9. If you like the music he or she is, or they are, producing, give a little. Otherwise, completely agree. Clearly, MML has spent considerable time in NOLa. Don't interact with any of the folks that are fully painted gold or silver. The basic rule is....assume you are the dumbest guy in the room (on the street), and get out. Watch where you are walking and/or jogging. Some sidewalks, especially out in the Garden District and Uptown, will roll your ankles, break your knees, scar your face. After dark, the risk is infinitely higher. If you are flying home, don't drink too much the night before. Drink. Drink a lot, if you like. But not too much (and you know what that is) before any morning flight. GMG
  10. I am taking NT in the confidence pool I play every year. Other than the guest picker referenced above, I haven't found a single prediction for an NT win. And I am feeling pretty good about my pick (not 39 point pick confidence...that is going to FAU...but confident). Just as my politics, I like the contrarian view, a very good stance for NT fans. GMG
  11. Decided to add two more for bragging rights. #brokethe130barrier GMG
  12. Was hoping our clan would bust us through the 130 barrier, but we will be 3. GMG
  13. They can do pretty much anything over the phone that they can when you stand in front of them, except hand you the tickets. Which they can't do until next week any way. You'll get great service and avoid the Ticketmaster hassle and fees. GMG
  14. In the same vein as The Old Coffee Pot, try Mena's Palace for breakfast or lunch. I don't remember it being Palace before the remodel, but it remains a diner to me. Everyone that works at Mena's has been there a long time. Food reasonably priced and it is one block off Canal in the FQ, behind the Marriott. http://menaspalace.com Lots of gumbo choices in New Orleans but The Redfish Grill (one of handful of reasons to go to Bourbon Street) is good. Eat at the bar on a white table cloth and enjoy a beverage and the bartender banter. http://www.redfishgrill.com Then walk across the street to The Bourbon House. I prefer Scotch but this place has, appropriately, an extensive bourbon offering. http://bourbonhouse.com All three of these are within a five iron shot of each other...pretty good way to spend the day (if your not going to the WWII museum). GMG
  15. Missouri lists Graham Harrell as candidate to fill the OC spot vacated by Josh Heupel. http://www.kansascity.com/sports/college/sec/university-of-missouri/article188391989.html Positive response on Missouri message boards. GMG
  16. POSTED in a couple of different threads last week: @wrenbaker says on Twitter that there will be a graduation ceremony, I believe on Friday, for football, band and spirit members. @rearea_96 (Reagan Elizabeth) put out a poll asking if she should miss out on graduation or go to NOLA for the bowl game. @UNTPrez called it a tough question but said graduation is once in a lifetime and he thinks there are lots of bowls in our future. @wrenbaker said details are being solidified for a NOLa graduation ceremony and invited any graduates who make the trip to participate in an onsite ceremony. #TheWrengetsthingsdone GMG
  17. Tis the Season to give. Props to UNT Athletics and to he who challenged me (but I was going to do it anyway!). GMG
  18. Name of the home of the Mean Green during the NOB Sun Belt days was http://www.fritzelsjazz.net/no_flash.php GMG
  19. Agree on the chargrilled oysters at Dragos. But if you can, go to the Metairie location. Even the employees agree the grills in Metairie produce the better product. 3232 N Arnoult Rd, Metairie, LA 70002 For a bit nicer meal, try Meril in the CBD. Emeril's small plate restaurant named after his daughter. 424 Girod. http://emerilsrestaurants.com/meril Pretty good red beans and rice with sausage at Ernst Cafe, http://ernstcafe.co/ 600 South Peters, next to Manning's. A hole in the wall, but decent prices and a smoky taste. Never a wait. Breakfast at the Ruby Slipper. Number of locations but the one on Canal Street usually has a shorter line than the one on Magazine. 1005 Canal Street. https://www.therubyslippercafe.net/menus/ Other nice meals: Orleans Grapevine a block behind St Louis Cathredral is quiet and feels more local than some of the regular tourist haunts. Muriel's near Jackson Square is great. Everyone knows Brennan's but they have just gone through a massive renovation and it is really back up to speed. For dessert, go get the bananas foster at the Palace Cafe on Canal. Go over to Frenchman Street in the Marigny Triangle (the next neighborhood over from the FQ for music. Snug Harbor stands out but is a bit more pricey on the cover. Lots of options to hear music from the street, and most of the clubs are reasonably priced. Take a walk up Bourbon to say you have done it but spend some time off Bourbon taking in all the city has to offer. New Orleans is somewhat polarizing...you either love it or not. Potholes, politics (one of NO's best spectator sports), crime all suck to some extent but it is a historical city, perhaps the most international of US cities. It defines the word quirky. Definitely talk to the locals. It is a talking town. Go in with an open mind if you haven't been there. GMG
  20. EDIT: just found this discussed earlier....Mods, delete as necessary. @wrenbaker says on Twitter that there will be a graduation ceremony, I believe on Friday, for football, band and spirit members.
  21. Traveling this past summer, I was wearing a NT pullover at the Glencoe (Massacre) visitors center in the Scottish Highlands. Someone came up to me in a North Texas hoodie and we had a nice chat about the school, football and the parts of the Metroplex in which we lived. I encouraged him to get up to Apogee and see how things have changed since he went to school at NT. I think he was bummed one of my ancestors (we share a last name) led the force that took out a significant number of MacDonalds, with whom he shares a last name. We had the Mean Green in common though. GMG
