  1. Well done, Mr. Quinn. GMG
  2. Old man problem #117: Anyone else struggling to read the names and numbers on some of these jerseys? Last week's gray and dark green letters on black are tough on my contrast meter. Gold letters on black, as Iowa has, pop better. And yes, I understand it is not all about me, and others like me. GMG
  3. Sat next to a player's mom on the way home from Norfolk. Her son told her that if anything happened, "spittle" may have flown during some jawing back and forth (not that the son had any particular knowledge), as in when someone yells loudly and stuff flies from the mouth of he who is yelling. Spitting, to me, infers no words are flying and that there is a pre-calculated gathering of saliva that is forcefully expelled in targeted fashion with intent to strike the victim. But the source's point was that the ref wasn't in any position to see anything. Essentially the ref just took Duhart's word for it. GMG
  4. Well then, if Lane plans to attend, then I will too. And I will enjoy my vacation day on Friday. GMG
  5. Got a recommendation for a good breakfast for lunch diner near the stadium? Thanks, GMG
  6. Let's be that exception and support our crappy team....oh wait a minute, we support WINNING teams. Unless the game is at 8:30 on a Thursday night. Great points GT13. I ask my family/relatives not to get married, have band competitions or die during football season (I really just need you to not do anything 6 days a year....kick the ass out of the other 359 days). Unfortunately, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and its 30,000 registrants weren't willing to move the convention that interfered with my joy of Homecoming. Seems the AAO books their events years in advance. Just realized how weird it is that I allow work to interfere, but not family weddings and funerals. GMG
  7. Offense line is improving, but they have a mobile, football savant QB in the Assist mode. GMG
  8. Saw SUMG at halftime and he mentioned the same thing, FFR. I was on a plane this week and finally found time to read the DRC Football 2018 issue. Brett Vito wrote a great story about Dion Novil. Page 8-9 of this: https://issuu.com/lmcbride/docs/2018_football_magazine-sm Great story, great family and this guy has character that perseveres through adversity. Very happy to read the story and watch Dion with entirely open eyes. That 1Q tackle on Tez Parks was delicious. Many more "his best game yet" to come. GMG
  9. A good deed needs to be publicly acknowledged. I mis-read the instructions on how to get the Mean Joe key chain and instructed family that they would be available at the end of the IPF groundbreaking (doesn't make any sense, I know). We say Kyle from Tickets and a couple of others setting up some tables at the end of the ground breaking so I hung in for a few more minutes before having to run back to my tailgate to join those I was hosting, then ran back to make it to the statue unveiling at 4. I missed the key chain give away and so did my son and a friend....my fault. Jim Plummer got an extra and as we were talking about the cool game day giveaways, he asked if I got one. Jim gave me his extra, and I am eternally grateful to Jim. Thanks amigo. Still haven't decided if I am going to give it to #1 son. GMG
  10. There was a 5-7 minute wait to get into the parking lot a little before 3 pm (missed part of the IPF groundbreaking, but that was my fault). And there were a few more minutes sitting on Bonnie Brae just to get to the blue lot entrance. I understand that as it gets closer to game time but this was 3.5 hours before. Lots of pre-game events probably affected that some. I think they need to find a way to get those with parking passes through without waiting for those that are paying. There were, however, at least six people helping on the road going into the blue lot. Getting out was grid lock, literally, for at least 20 minutes. We had beverages at our tailgate. Good decision but I am sure those in the mess weren't too thrilled. My guess is most of that was related to a jammed I-35. No one was moving there so no one could move behind them. Looking forward to getting Bonnie Brae widened. GMG
  11. This post title would be unimaginable 8 years ago (great venue) and significantly modified just a few years ago (great fan?). I have never been more proud of our stadium and fans than Saturday night. Well, except for the jerks sitting to my left in Section 110, Row 15. Always sad when cousins marry....sets the genetic wiring off for generations to follow. After the disappointment of the loss starts to fade, I am left with the realization that I spent the day hanging with 20 good friends and was surrounded by about 30,000 more folks with whom I would be good friends if any one of them were sitting in the seat next to me. We have North Texas in common, and that's enough. Favorite tweet this game: "The blue lot is sold out." Extra money in our coffers that, it seems, the previous administration didn't need. GMG
  12. On this Throwback weekend, here is a little video number 1 son turned up of old #72, Freshman Joe Greene. Title is misspelled, and much of the video focuses on Tech. But the game was at Fouts (some validation that the locker room and shower space was inadequate long before I watched games there) and North Texas wins 28-12 in 1965. Mean Joe karma. Edit: I will concur with the historians on here. I was thinking the scoreboard designates the home team on the right (the empty seats were another clue!). Upon further review, I am taking a self-inflicted whistle for Fake News. The score continues to reflect an NT win, Mean Joe remains #72 and his last name remains misspelled in the video's title. I also stand by the Mean Joe karma. Validation expected Saturday. #BeatLaTech GMG
  13. UNT Lifer, would that be a tribute to the Newbomb Turk Memorial Library? GMG
  14. Jungle karma for Arkansas. Check. Mean Joe karma for #BeatLaTech. Happy with the former, STOKED for the latter. Motivation scale equivalent to Jefferson's car. What a game he had against Lincoln. GMG
  15. He was in at Guard on the QB sweep TD and extra point after. Noticed he wasn't there for much of the game and then saw him on that play. Didn't see him later but wasn't watching for him either. GMG
  16. It was fun to watch on the big screen. Sound was good and the picture was clean. There was some buffering, but it always happened during halftime or breaks. I can't recall any play we missed but there were groans each of the 3-4 times it buffered, I think in anticipation it was going to happen during play. Never did. I am assuming the theater had the same broadcast interruption we did in the 4th quarter. Warning: with the delays in getting started and my general lack of discipline when it comes to buttered (or Poppy's) popcorn, sitting for four hours and ordering the bottomless popcorn was not the best decision from a post-game gastrointestinal perspective. GMG
  17. Nice way to watch the game. We left after the second delay within the second delay, but it was a near sellout. The $5.00 admission charge is credited back to your concession purchases. Interesting to sit in a movie theater and talking/texting/cheering/yelling at bad calls, without reproach. GMG
  18. #buttsinseats (probably mine, but I will velvet glove them back upstairs) #Apogeesellout GMG
  19. SUMG introduced a few of us to Mr. Lovelace at the Coach's show. I am grateful to have met a true pillar for NT athletics and so happy to hear about another. Thanks to those who give, big, small and all amounts in between. UNT has put in place athletic directors and coaches that have led us to this moment. Those who lead this University are making decisions fully understanding the value of investing in athletics. That $1,000,000 we got in Fayetteville was chump change compared to the publicity the entire team orchestrated and executed in one play last Saturday. I am starting to believe this is Real. And that this train won't slow down anytime soon. GMG
  20. Homecoming v. Rice? Most non-fans know Rice for its academic reputation and former SWC residence. Big crowd, good tailgating, swag. GMG
  21. Thanks Brett. Facts get in the way of everything, when used. GMG
  22. I thought his wife was here as a grad student and Turner was a GA. GMG
  23. "They will be the best team we have played all year." Hey, Arkansas: GMG
  24. That play was worth a lot of money to the university, indeed. The associated publicity is why the school, you and I invest in athletics. GMG
  25. Jungle karma. GMG
