Mason Reid announced he was coming to North Texas over the summer, 2018. https://www.expressnews.com/sports/high_school/high_school_football/article/Football-E-N-Area-rankings-top-players-13345945.php GMG

Everyone standing. Love looking at individual reactions and anticipations in that shot. One guy has his hands on his head, another in the throes of raising his hands in victory, everyone intently focused. Appropriately funding athletics is right. GMG

Son sent me that message.....what happened to drive the coach off his rocker? He doesn't remember he was getting all the calls early? GMG

Nate Brooks with the INT! Fun return. Great catch and they talk about the players that make plays. Lots of background, coaches pumped! GMG

He picked the right player picture to help visualize where this can go, if focused on #TheStandard GMG

DL Xavier Washington 6-1, 238 4.85 Cedar Hill (offer)

Off field incident may be a concern also. If he even has eligibility left, it would be up to the coaches to assess the chances of this player taking advantage of a second chance. GMG -
What is the Coolest Mean Green Item You Own ?

It is temporary but it was part of my New Mexico Bowl experience and I take it with me wherever I go. GMG -

Coach Choice headed to his Alma Mater
untcampbell replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Never got enough BTG time, in my opinion. This was an even exchange. Coach Choice got a lot of experience and I am sure learned a lot while here. We got a coach who loved and cared for his players, pushed them to be better and provided emotional and passion components for this team. Best of luck, Coach Choice. Now, let's get better. GMG -
Mr. Ndago, your services are needed here. And both Apogee and Denton are stacked with good places to get pancakes. This guy engages and wins battles, looks strong and goes until the play is over. GMG

***OFFICIAL 2018 New Mexico Bowl Game Thread***

East. TV side, I think. GMG -
Appreciate you posting the O and D overviews. I own a lot up at Bear Lake in Fish Haven. Learned about the area from Coach Motta, whose daughter is a neighbor. He was tight with Merlin Olsen. The two of them had a nice BL coffee (maybe decaf?!) clatch with the athlete trifecta rounded out by Jazz assistant coach Phil Johnson. Love the lake (Juanito Bandito, Bear Cave Drive In, Rockslide, Limber Pine, etc) but I would trade my near three acre lot overlooking the lake for a small place in Logan in a moment. That is a great town, and I really appreciate how it is in an isolated enough media market that gives USU great coverage. Great people, great views and great outdoors. Really looking forward to this game and hoping we squeak out a timely slight coaching advantage to squeak out a win. GMG

We are three and will be in tomorrow morning. Camping out at my stepmom's condo in Ruidoso (I know, so close) for a few days. Will be at the tailgate with two of my tailgate pals, who are coming in on the Alumni bus. GMG

Oct 2004, last time we played Utah State

Broderick (Brod), meanrob. That game was the one I developed the theory we play our best games when no one is there to see them. #800 GMG -
Another sign the program is evolving: Every time a "(insert P5 player here) is transferring" thread started in the past, I read it. Initially, I was filled with hope that we had a chance to add a potential impact player at a position of need. As the thread grew, and schools were added that the player was considering, my hopes started to dwindle when NT wasn't on the list, but I dreamed the stealth recruiting happening behind the scenes would steer said player our way. When the player signed elsewhere, especially if it was to a CUSA school or $MU, I was devastated, reaching into my feelings basket to find the one next to every single time I heard, "I wouldn't go out with you if you were the last guy on earth." Conversely, when one of these transfers went our way, I was joyful. Sometimes they panned out (Trice, Guyton, et al). Sometimes they didn't. But hope sprung eternal. This thread is interesting. If it happens, great! If not, I like our chances otherwise. Love where we are heading right now. Ride the wave. GMG

Sorry....referenced this game in another thread. This game was one of the games that lead me to theorize that North Texas plays its best games in front of its smallest crowds. Lance's last game against MTSU also comes to mind. Sadly there is a corollary to the theory: some of it's worst losses (not necessarily by points) have come in front of some of its biggest crowds. See you in ABQ. GMG

Memories from the last time UNT faced Utah State
untcampbell replied to UNT 90 Grad's topic in Mean Green Football
We own 3 acres on Bear Lake, about an hour from Logan. I love this community's support for its team and keep an eye on them most Saturdays. I would think ABQ is pretty happy they got a top 25 team in it's bowl. This will be a very good win for us WIN we WHEN. This was one of my favorite North Texas games ever, from 1997 played in that "paradise" of a venue that is about to become a parking lot: https://meangreensports.com/news/2016/7/18/Five_For_Five_Mills_Leads_NT_To_32_Points_In_Fourth.aspx?path=general GMG -
Bowl priorities, unscientific: A game we can (and do) win An opponent that achieving the above would have some relevance Best opportunity for next year's @MeanGreenFB to improve between now and game day A date and location that favors a good turnout A fun time for players (see the first bullet) A fun time for fans (see the first bullet) Generally, those favor Dallas. Who we play makes a difference, though. GMG

If your kid is like my kid, he will go to NT. And he may have already made his decision. My son decided to go to North Texas the day he interviewed Jamario Thomas ON THE FIELD after the game. There is absolutely nothing that makes an impression on a kid that age like that. He never even considered another school after that, and his first, and current, email is meangreen2018 (the year he graduated from NT). Post game field access sells kids. Do it. GMG

How is that Marriott Plaza? We are there tomorrow night. Will be a group of six at the game. GMG

This game will pay dividends over the 2018-2019 season. We needed it. GMG

This is an exceptional kid. I don't hero sports idols anymore. Gave it up after Nolan Ryan left the Rangers. But this guy comes as close to "total package" as this school has seen since Mean Joe. I appreciate every moment I have been given getting to watch this team, including what I saw in Norfolk. Littrell, Fine, Ejiya, Lawrence, Hambone, Garner, Brooks, Easley, with a hat tip to Brewer and Biagi, et al, have given me two fantastic and never-to- forget memories ($MU, Arkansas). I am grateful in this Thanksgiving season for those memories, and happy, but not entitled, with what happens next. We spend way too much time on this board with speculating to the point of panic about what we can't control. Our punditry, while boring if done like this, would be much more honest and healthy: With an attitude of gratitude, I say thanks, Mason. I have never doubted you give your best every down. If I could buy stock in Mason Fine Corporation, I would do so immediately. Do great things, for Faith, for you, for family, for school, for fans. In that order. Thanks, Mason.

That would bring so many fond memories back of end-of-game fireworks set off to celebrate (commemorate?) another loss. GMG
