This has stuck in my craw for a while. To win a national championship in most years, a team has to be undefeated. Outside of a vigorous conference schedule, it is best to have a bona fide OOC win, preferably against a Top 15 team outside of their own "major" conference. Guaranteed wins then make up the rest. The value of guaranteed wins is enormous and us outside looking in should collectively drive that price higher. Wyoming and other teams that have gotten "above market" paydays are on the right track. $2 million plus should be the goal, especially when no return game is in the mix. GMG

If not, I am looking for Poppy's to offer drive through service during the season. I will go to any game they will let me, and tailgate any game they won't. GMG

Saints are the only NFL team I make an effort to watch. If Mason becomes a Saint, they will be both my first and second favorite NFL teams.

I don’t know the politics that had to be overcome to get that name change, but it still fascinates me the evolution from Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute to Univ of SW Louisiana to Louisiana (still on their jersey) to UL Louisiana, with a few incarnations in between. And it remains my favorite G5 football game day, outside of North Texas. Can you imagine any Texas school’s jersey other than UT emblazoned with the great state of TEXAS over the numbers? GMG

I am a newby at this math, but wouldn't one year use of a scholarship with a proven OL or DL be at least as good a bet as signing a four year player of whatever position that might be a flier? The former is gone in a year and we have the scholarship back. The latter might take 2-3 years to develop and you get the productivity in the fourth year the one year gave you three years ago. In other words, if we can find the stud worth investing four years on, YES! If we are rolling the dice, use it on the one year guy and look for the four year guy in 2021. GMG

Never got to meet Coach Fry. Wasn't here when he coached. But when I transferred from UT, one of my Talon buddies told me to go to the library and watch the 30-minute film of his first game at NT (vs. $MU after being fired from there). I can't recall who put together the show, but I think it was Channel 5 (the NBC affiliate). NT didn't do football like UT did, but that film helped me visualize what could be for this school when the right people lead it. And I was a diehard from that viewing forward. (long time ago...I hope my memory is not a distorted representation) GMG

Very weak tradition on our part. The Rice Senior Day introduction, I thought, was much more engaging. Gave their majors and a one-liner of their on the field accomplishments. Seemed much more celebratory, even for the numerous grad transfers that played just one year at Rice. We need to dress that up a bit for all 400 non-family members there to say thank you. GMG

Actually I saw a drive worse that that last week against Rice. Two holding penalties on the same OL, on a drive that should have been less than 40 yards to take the lead. Instead we needed 60. Two throws, on 3rd and 4th down, into the end zone to MLaw, who was covered like a blanket on both, giving a win to a team with one other on the year. I think there is plenty of competition for worst drive of the year. GMG
