  1. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news?slug=ap...p&type=lgns Anyone know if any NT player was in this "small school" bowl game ?? If so how did they do ??
  2. If Stack had Dodge as a coach for 4 years , he would be in the top 5 of every UNT passing stat.
  3. Never thought Id like the wihte helmet , but looking at it Im N LOVE!!
  4. You said it. I agree that we can WIN the SBC and go onto the BIG DANCE because we have the talent to do so. But , until this team can string a few WINS together during the most crucial time of the year ( SBC tourney) we will be at best be playing in the NIT.
  5. I agree 100% with you guys ( Silver,Smitty & Huff ) The people who frown on the Dodge hiring are the same people who frowned on us firing DD. They do not understand what's really going on here. There is potential to WIN here and DD was leading us down the gutter. Anyone who has ever been around TD knows he can WIN here. Ill bash on LBH on here , but to leave her a nasty email would be classless. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I've never been a fan of her and when she bashes my alma matter he just irks me more. I hope this year our average home attendance is around 25K , anything less than 20K ( I don't care even if we are playing WKU ) then the NT bashers might just be right about us. I just hope our middle of the road fans don't leave after TDs first season , because they are expecting a BCS bid in 07.
  6. With so many great looks , how about 3 different looks : a home , away and alternate helmets ? Give it a year and let the Alumni and students then vote on which one they would most prefer ?
  7. Something to think about if we do land Riley Dodge. Would we be able to land another QB in 08-09 ?? Nobody would want to come here to play backup behind the coach's son would they ?? Even if that kid was better and he knew it , would he feel confident enough that he could have his coach bench his own son ?? If Riley happened to go down , would we have a reliable backup ?? If we get Riley , great. His knowledge of his dad's newly installed offense would be priceless. If not , I feel more than confident that TD could find someone who would be more than capable of running the ship.
  8. I think she's mad because her beloved MIZZU wanted TD to come there. Im sure she would she would be on cloud 9 if he was hired to be their OC or QB coach.
  9. I can't stand that bitch. Never have never will. The only way she gets anyone to listen to her talk show is by throwing out some stupid comments to try to rile someone up. I turn it off everytime she comes on. Im sure in a few years when we get in the top 25 she will be saying how brilliant NT was & how stupid the other BIG schools are who didn't scoop up TD before we did. She just ruined my holliday spirit
  10. Great Point! I say we finish 22-9 and are NIT bound!!!
  11. As much as I want to see us in the BIG DANCE , I think we will land in the NIT. I hope to HELL I'm wrong , but I wasn't expecting to get my dancing shoes on till 08. To the peeps on here who have followed NT BB for awhile , have we ever been in the NIT ? I know we went to the BIG DANCE in the mid 80s vs. UNC and that our women went to the NIT a few years back , but have the Men ever been in the NIT ?? Whether it's the BIG DANCE or the NIT , can't wait to get a party bus together and make a road trip!!!
  12. I think TD will have a say in this as well. SLC look sharp and Im sure he had something to do with it.
  13. I don't know about you guys , but Ive never been more excited about a BB WIN than I was the other night when I listended to the WKU game. I knew that game would be a true test for our men. It takes something special to go on the road vs. the best of the SBC , being without your top scorer and coming off a heartbreaking OT loss to NO. My expectations have know risen. Since there are no longer polls just wandering everyone else's crystal ball. SBC Champions , going to the BIG Dance NIT bound , lose in SBC tourney , finish w/ 18+ wins NIT snub , even with the 18 + wins @ Home , go on drought finish around .500 again JJ's gone , we go on horrible losing streak finish under .500
  14. Since Christmas came early for most of us on board , was wandering what ONE thing you would ask Todd Dogde... I mean...Santa for ???? Ill take a highly recruited Left Tackle to protect our QBs for the next 4 years. Preferably someone around say 6'4 and 310 pds. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!!!
  15. Hey Mitch!!! Its always nice to hear from former players. I'll always enjoy your veiwpoints and thoughts. With TD hopefully going to be here for a LONG time , Will you be sad in a few years when all your passing records will be out the door ?? Take Care
  16. Agree! The only 2 games that I witnessed this year , vs. Allen and Trinity , it looked as if SLC was full of those 2 stars players and Allen & ET had all those 3-5 star recruits. TD knows what he is doing. Ill take a 2 star recruit coached by TD over a 4 star recruit being coached by DD any day.
  17. Add to that most annoying , worst looking and dumbest sayings. I know FSN has more $$$ to spend on a better analyst. I guess he has some naked pictures of someone in the front office.
  18. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...ll.3153d79.html BY BRANDON GEORGE/DMN SOUTHLAKE – Riley Dodge drew up a passing play on a napkin at a Chili's restaurant and handed it to his father, Todd. The play, Riley said, would help his father coach Cameron Yoe to a victory against its rival, Rockdale. Riley was 4 years old. "I would always give him plays and say, 'Dad, this might work!' " Riley said this week, excitement still in his voice 14 years later. "Cameron Yoe ran the play late in the game and scored on it. It ended up being the game-winning play. He told the guys I drew that up, and they were pretty impressed." Riley is still drawing up plays for his father, but now he's doing it as a top-notch high school quarterback. On Friday, Riley was named Class 5A offensive player of the year by The Associated Press, the fifth consecutive year the award has gone to Southlake Carroll's quarterback. Carroll (15-0) will play for the Class 5A Division I championship against Austin Westlake (12-2) at 7 p.m. today in San Antonio. The game will be Todd Dodge's last as a high school coach. Todd was introduced as North Texas' coach Dec. 12. He has guided Carroll to a 5A state championship game in each of the last five years and will seek his fourth title. Todd Dodge said the play Riley drew up for Cameron Yoe was called "Choice Backside Seam," which basically was a wide receiver running a seam route up the field. Todd, however, called it "The Riley Special." "All the kids at the field house the next day were telling him, 'Thank you so much, thank you so much,' " Todd said. "It was all he could talk about forever." But did Riley actually design the pattern? "To his knowledge, he did," Todd said. "We weren't going to let him think any different." A special relationship Riley Dodge (6-0, 180), a junior, has been impressive in his first season as Carroll's starting quarterback. He has passed for 3,881 yards and 51 touchdowns and rushed for 1,077 yards and 13 touchdowns. He and his father have a special relationship because they're around each other all the time. "I'm harder on my son than I've ever been on any player I've coached," Todd Dodge said. "Riley understands that when we're in the heat of the battle, though, I'm going to rip him sometimes. But I'm going to love him up, too." Elizabeth Dodge, Todd's wife and Riley's mother, said she often watches them on the sideline. She said her "mom radar" comes out when Todd yells at Riley, and she'll ask her husband why it happened. But another scene delights her. "You see all the action photos of Todd and Riley," Elizabeth said, "but the ones I'm most proud of are the ones of them on the sideline. Todd is not afraid to kiss Riley on the cheek and hug on him, and Riley's a hugger. He's not afraid to hug his dad. That's what's special to me." Riley offers not only hugs but advice to his dad. "I'll give him a signal or tell him something, and he won't call it," Riley said. "I like to go for the home run all the time, and he says, 'No, Riley, we've got to move the ball down the field.' I'll say, 'Yeah, I know.' He has to slow me down a little bit." Riley's parents say their son faces a tremendous amount of pressure. Not only is Riley a coach's son, but he also is the starting quarterback in a one-high school town for a team that's expected to win. Carroll is 78-1 since moving up to Class 5A. "He's handled it well, though," Todd said. "He's so poised. I think it goes back to him being around so many big games all his life that it really doesn't faze him. He really thrives on it." Riley's future Riley said he hasn't had much time to think about what next season will be like playing for a coach other than his father. But one constant will remain. "I will always bounce stuff off of him," Riley said. "He's my best friend and my idol, and I'm so proud of him." Todd said because he's becoming the coach at UNT doesn't guarantee that Riley is a future quarterback for the Mean Green. Riley said he has other opportunities to consider. He said he has scholarship offers from SMU and Rice and is also considering Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Missouri. VERNON BRYANT / DMN Carroll quarterback Riley Dodge gets advice from Todd Dodge, his coach and father. And there is another obstacle: "My dad has to offer me first," Riley said, laughing. Riley said his father has already teased him about what next year might be like for the two. "About a week ago we were goofing around and I was going to pick us up something to eat," Riley said. "He was on the phone and I asked him for some money, and he said, 'I can't give money to you anymore.' I said, 'Why?' He said, 'It's college rules,' but I got it out of him anyway." Love of the game Elizabeth said sometimes Todd's and Riley's love of football spills over into their home or even their church. Elizabeth said Riley grew up drawing up plays at church. "I used to get so mad at him," Elizabeth said, "and I'd tell him, 'Listen to the preacher!' " This week, Elizabeth said, she looked at the front of her refrigerator and realized that not much has changed. "On my refrigerator right now it looks like Riley has written up some play, so I'm sure Todd and Riley have been in here drawing something up," Elizabeth said. "I have a scripture right above it, and here they have a play drawn up on the refrigerator." At least it's not on a napkin anymore. 19. Also in the area are Pete Incaviglia ( who lives right across the street from me ) who last year was a hitting coach with the AA Detroit Tigers. Larry Carter who lives in Corinth. He played for the Giants , last year was a pitching coach in the KC Royals organization. And Jim Chamblee who played for the Reds and now runs the baseball school in Cortinth across from NCTC.
  20. HOLY TOLEDO!!! GREAT WORK SMITTY!!!
  21. The Dallas Observer , always keepin it Real
  22. With an estimated ( my estimate) say 15,000 males currently enrolled at UNT , it would be crazy not to think that at least 1 kid out of those 15,000 is capable of playing at the D I level. Anyone ever seen American Idol ? Just because someone is not a current top selling recording artist , doesn't mean that there are none outside that music chart. This thread make me think back to when I first arrived on campus in 99. I was walking to class one day when I noticed someone I hadn't seen since High School. His name was Toby Dollar. I'm sure none on this board has ever heard of him ( played HS with former NT KR Tubby Coleman ) , but let me inform ya. Toby played his HS ball at Graham HS , just southwest of Ft. Worth. He was by far the best athlete Ive ever seen play HS sports. District MVP in Baseball , Football & Basketball. Out of HS he was recruited by ND,TX,FL just to name a few. He was the best football player on our campus at the time , end of story. Problem is he only wanted to play baseball and not football. He wound up signing with Miami in 93 and soon found his way as their closer. He got homesick and later transfered to TCU and left after a year to sign with the Dodgers. After a few years with their AA team he blew out his shoulder and never returned. He returned to NT to finish his education and never again had that fire to continue to compete. Long story short , I'm sure there is some kid with a similar story out there currently enrolled at NT. Maybe something like this could rekindle someone's interest and perhaps make someone like this want to give the ol' pigskin another try. Would be fun to see , give the fans an underdog to root for in the stands and create even more buzz than there already is.
  23. By Brett Vito/Staff Writer What was once a quiet atmosphere at the North Texas ticket office became a little more frantic in the last week. The phone rang more often and fans that had not been to a UNT football game in several years inquired about coming back. The change came just hours after an announcement last Tuesday night that Todd Dodge was leaving Southlake Carroll to become the next head coach at UNT. "Today has been remarkable," Hank Dickenson, UNT's deputy athletic director, said the day after Dodge was introduced at a press conference. "We have gotten nothing but positive feedback. People want to get back into the Mean Green Club or find out about it. To be talking about next season in December is impressive. I heard from a lawyer in town today who wants to double his Mean Green Club membership." That enthusiasm has continued to build in the week since Dodge was introduced as the Mean Green's next coach and immediately talked about the school's potential to develop into a power in the region and beyond. Dodge said that potential is one of the main reasons he is leaving a Carroll team he built into one of the most successful high school programs in the country. "I am coming from a place where we are winning a lot of games right now," Dodge said. "I wanted to make sure that if I took another job it would be at a place that I believe deep down in my heart that we can win. We can win at North Texas. It has been proven and I want to be a part of keeping that going and bringing it back up to speed." UNT athletic department officials have had a chance to gauge the impact of what Dodge had to say on the Mean Green's fan base over the last week and have been excited with the response. "We have absolutely seen an effect,” said Mandy McKinley, the director of the Mean Green Club, a fundraising wing of the athletic department. “We have heard from a lot of people who have said they will be supportive of [uNT athletic director Rick] Villarreal and of coach Dodge.” Jackie Vaughan was one of the first UNT athletic department employees to see the direct effect of Dodge becoming the Mean Green’s next coach. Vaughan is UNT’s assistant ticket manager and was in the office the morning after Dodge was hired. “Between 8 and 9 a.m. I had another call every time I hung up the phone,” Vaughan said. “A lot of people said they used to be season ticket holders and are coming back.” Vaughan said the office was as busy on the day after Dodge was hired as it had been since the Mean Green beat SMU in the second week of last season. UNT hired Dodge in the hope that he can bring the Mean Green out of a slump and move it beyond the success it enjoyed in the 2001-04 seasons. UNT won the Sun Belt title and played in the New Orleans bowl in each of those years. UNT graduate Denny Kalk is among the boosters who have decided to increase their financial commitment to the athletic department because of Dodge's arrival. "Actions are much stronger than words," Kalk said. "I will be giving five figures again. I cut back significantly in the last few years. Dodge will be a breath of fresh air because of his ability to motivate and coach his players." The task is one Dodge is not entirely unfamiliar with on the college level. He enjoyed a successful two-year stint as an assistant coach with the Mean Green from 1992-93 before becoming perhaps the most visible and successful high school coach in the state. Carroll won Class 5A state titles in 2002, 2004 and 2005 and will play four a fourth title under Dodge on Saturday when it takes on Austin Westlake in San Antonio. Dodge will start at UNT following his final game with the Dragons. Dickenson said building on the momentum UNT has gained in terms of fundraising and ticket sales since hiring Dodge would bring the athletic department closer to its goals. “When people talk about building a new football stadium having and more flexibility in scheduling, the Mean Green Club and tickets are how we can get there,” Dickenson said. [sources: Former UNT player to join staff] Former UNT wide receiver Clayton George will join the Mean Green's staff under new head coach Todd Dodge, multiple sources at the school said Wednesday. George, 35, spent one season as Haltom's head coach before resigning late last week. Dodge coached George from 1992-93 when he was an assistant coach at UNT. George also coached under Dodge from 1996-2004. George was Southlake Carroll's offensive coordinator from 2000-03 and also spent two seasons at Hillcrest. George led UNT with 36 catches for 563 yards and two touchdowns in 1992. He did not respond to messages seeking comment.
