Reggie Carrington, the all-Conference USA linebacker expected to lead SMU's defense this fall, has left the program, coach Phil Bennett said Thursday. "He's dealing with some other issues and he's questioning if he wants to play," Bennett said. "I'm not sure with everything he's got going that football's viable right now." Bennett said he hadn't "shut the door" on Carrington, but does not expect the sixth-year player, who was the Mustangs' top returning tackler, to play this season. Bennett said Carrington expects to graduate at the end of the summer. Attempts to reach Carrington were not immediately successful. Carrington, a 6-2, 240-pound senior, was second on the team with 80 tackles last season. He recorded 10 tackles for loss, four sacks, four pass breakups and a forced fumble while starting all 12 games. He earned second team all-conference honors from the media and third team from the coaches. Bennett had said during spring practice that Carrington would be a key figure in 2007. Bennett said he and Carrington discussed the situation Wednesday, and said the decision was not a surprise. Carrington, of Tomball, Texas, learned this spring that he had been granted a sixth year of eligibility. He took a medical redshirt season because of a torn pectoral muscle in 2004 after wrist injuries forced him to redshirt as a true freshman in 2002. VERNON BRYANT / DMN Reggie Carrington (left) was SMU's top returning tackler before leaving the program. "He's fought the fight," Bennett said. "He's been good for SMU football." Carrington and fellow senior linebackers Wilton McCray and Tony Hawkins figured to be a strength for a unit with a new-look defensive line. Bennett said senior Damon Hurst is the leading candidate to fill Carrington's spot at middle linebacker, with redshirt freshmen Ryan Moczygemba and Pete Fleps in the mix. "Naturally, I hate that he's not going to be there," Bennett said, "but I think we're going to be OK."

University of Hawaii has a open date on 11/03 and is seeking an opponent to fill the void. We are open that date and one of my fellow alumnus & former college roommates who currently resides in Hawaii said he thought he heard that UNT was one of the 2 schools being considered. I don't know if this is even somewhat true b/c he didn't know how reliable his source was. Would be a nice trip , but I don't know what the athletic budget currently looks like. http://www.kgmb.com/kgmb/display.cfm?story...02&sid=1183

The 2012 Olympics Logo
NT03 replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
If they test every Olympian for enhancers , someone needs to test the designer for acid. THAT FUGLY!! -
Wyoming has a college football team up there ??? I thought it was a bunch of UPS drivers gettting together on the weekends to play football.

Like Bama w/ the Elephant ?? I could live w/ the SOW , but Scrappy's got to go if we were just the Mean Green. How about someone as the incredible hulk at games ?
-
I realize that we are the Mean Green , w/ a mascot a Eagle. This is confusing not only to the rest of the College World , but to current students and fellow alumni. So my question is this , " What if we could officially name ourselves with a vote and it would stick forever, what would you want it to be ? " Id prefer the MEAN GREEN EAGLES. No MEAN GREEN & EAGLES , just the MEAN GREEN EAGLES I think we could $$$ in on merchandise w/ the Albino Squirrels ( while also being the laughing stock of America)

How Have You Benefitted By Dropping The "state" From Unt
NT03 replied to KAjunRaider's topic in Mean Green Football
Ohio State , Penn State , Florida State , etc. etc It's not the "state" part of a school's name that is seen as a negative. It's the fact that the more words you have in your school ala Middle Tennessee State University or North Texas State University the more you look like Bobby Boucher's South Central State Mudd Dogs. In my mind , the less words someone has to remember the easier it is to recognize that University. This could lead to more students and possibly a higher merchandise sales. This is all speculation , but it's a benefit that a "shorter" name could have. -
Greatest High School Running Back You Ever Saw Play?
NT03 replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
I forgot all about that guy , yes DB was a stud. Vernon has always had a great athletes. The only one I can recall making to the NFL was James Dixon , who went on to play KR/WR for a short time with the Cowboys. -
Last year we won because they didn't care and the game was our " Super Bowl" This year their excuse will be because we have a former player on the sidelines who will be telling our coaches what play they will be running

Thinking the same thing , Im thinking if Vizza is groomed to be the future w/ the possibility of Tune or this Johnson kid waiting behind him ... Meager starts this year and does good w/ Wilson getting some PT this season then Phillips could be the odd man out and not be on the roster next season. Just me playing physic , just a guess

I'm sure several posters will argue w/ Steele , but It's hard to make a case given our track record over the past 2 years. Some still see us as a pathetic offensive team who just hired a High School coach. While I don't agree w/ the 8th finish prediction , I can't argue too much against it. I was however shocked at MTSU as 4th & Aaron Weathers as a ...4th team Defense ???

Which do you prefer ?

If he wins a title this young , he will exceed Jordan's shoes. I can't believe anyone would EVER be greater than MJ. Not saying when it's all said and done than Lebron will be better , but it is possible and he is on that track.

I know it's early , but what the Hell. We should be a pretty balanced team and I think it's possible to have 3,4 maybe even 5 people who average in double figures next season. In the end who will have the highest PPG. average ? If Collin Dennis is as good as advertised , he's my pick . If Wooden can stay 100% all year , he could average anywhere from 15-20ppg.

Spurs in 5 , but I voted Pistons over the Jazz in the last poll , what the hell do I know ??

I know this is a off UNT Football topic , but it's the off season and finding a " HOT" topic can be hard to come by. The signing of the Vernon Lion's Williams brought back some memories for me. Vernon was a powerhouse in the late 80s and early 90s. They had a few memorable battles with the Southlake Carroll Dragons that I attended. While watching these games and a few others , I saw one of greatest High School Running Backs, Vernon's Derrick Richardson. I know he was recruited by all the big boys at the time , Notre Dame, Miami,Florida St., etc. Richardson lacked the SAT scores to get in. I believe he went on to a JUCO college , but I never heard anything else from him. I never got to see Cedric Benson in HS , so he might have gotten this vote if I had. So my vote goes to Derrick Richardson 1989-90(?) Vernon Lions. A few other greats I got to see in person , Skip Hicks , Burkburnett ( UCLA, Washington Redsins) Tyson Thompson , Irving ( SJSU, Dallas Cowboys) This post has been promoted to an article

If he gets arrested this year, he is a lock to be drafted by the Ickey Shuffle Bengals!

A once long time boxing fan , I'm all but done with the sport. Too many different belts , too many weight classes , top fighters not fighting each other , Too many split decisions or no contest ( fights with no clear cut winner ) possible fixed fights ( past and current ) , Don King , not many "top" names left in sport ... I could go on and on MMA , a true winner in almost every fight , top fighters not only fight more than once a year , but against each other, 10X more excitement.... I could go on and on ... Boxing is in real trouble , major changes need to be made or this sport will die in the next 10/15 years.

The Flying Nuns ??? I have no Idea , just a guess.
