Mean Green pose same threat to Razorbacks as Wildcats.By Robert Beckmann, Arkansas Traveler September 26, 2007 (CSTV U-WIRE) FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Arkansas and North Texas have something in common. Both teams entered the season with high hopes, and both teams have watched those hopes be crippled by early-season losses. On Saturday, the Mean Green will invade Reynolds Razorback Stadium, aiming to get their first win of the season and end a three-game slide. But despite their winless record, Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt said that his Hogs have no intention of overlooking them. "I think that's the worst thing we can do [is] to say [teams like North Texas are] 'not highly touted teams, haven't won a game,'" Nutt said. "As you know, anything can happen on these crazy days. If you turn the ball over, don't make good decisions, [make] foolish penalties, it will be a dog-fight Saturday." The impetus of the Mean Green fans' high hopes stems from their first-year head coach Todd Dodge. Last December, North Texas hired Dodge away from Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas. Dodge, serving as head coach, won four state championships in five seasons, amassing a 79-1 record. "The goals and standards that coach Todd Dodge has established for his football programs are exemplary," said UNT Athletic Director Rick Villarreal. "We are confident that he is the coach to elevate North Texas' football program." Offensively, Dodge and offensive coordinator Todd Ford employ a spread formation, usually even when rushing the ball. Entering the season, reports indicated that the Mean Green offense would be focused on a trio of talented tailbacks revolving around senior standout Jamario Thomas. Thomas ran for 1,801 yards and led the nation in rushing as a freshman in 2004. However, hamstring injuries have plagued him ever since. Because of injury, Thomas ran five times for four yards in the 2007 season opener against Oklahoma and didn't play at all against SMU. After two weeks of rest, Thomas returned last Saturday against Florida Atlantic, rushing for 117 yards on 14 carries. The UNT passing game, considered the team's weak-point and a mostly a mystery in the preseason, has primarily fueled the offensive attack through three games. Against SMU, junior quarterback Daniel Meager completed 46-of-64 passes for 601 yards and three touchdowns. His follow-up performance was for 301 yards and one touchdown on 38-of-61 passing against FAU. These two prolific passing performances both ultimately ended in losses, highlighting another similarity between the Mean Green and the Razorbacks. North Texas, aside from a 79-10 throttling at the hands of the Sooners, has made a habit of losing games down the stretch. The Mean Green was tied in the fourth quarter with SMU, and they held a 10-point lead in the third quarter against Florida Atlantic. "I thought we did some things really well, but we had too many mistakes," Dodge said of the FAU game. "We couldn't put everything together in the second half." The Mean Green's ruin in the past two games has been turnovers and poor pass defense. Against SMU and FAU combined, North Texas allowed 675 passing yards and gave up seven turnovers. However, the deciding factor for the game Saturday might be their ability to stop the run. The Mean Green rushing defense, considered one of the team's strengths, will have its mettle tested by Heisman hopeful tailback Darren McFadden. When speaking of the WildHog formation, Nutt indicated that McFadden proved once again in the Kentucky game that he remains the Razorbacks' trump card. "Everyone was playing the run, playing McFadden," Nutt said. "But still, even with all that, he takes the ball and he scores. That's a big part of our offense."

Since WE are in the SUN BELT , then WE are part of that problem... but I think we will hit 20,000+ If not , then I don't want to hear another thread , cry , pledge for a new stadium. We don't deserve one if we can't draw 20k + -
Unt Officials Predict Record Attendance!

Thanks SUMG , I've been looking at records back in the 70s in the old MVC days trying to find the other 2. I was able to attend the NMSU game , seemed a lot more than 20064 at the time. -

Okay which 3 , I can't recall. I'm sure the SBC clincher versus NMSU was one.. the other 2 I can't think -
I haven't read all this thread , but I think I've read enough... Would of Riley played QB at UT ?? No , they can get just about any QB in the country and if Riley has the same talent as some kid who is 6'5 230pds , guess who's playing. With that being said , Drew Brees was told he wasn't big enough to play QB at UT by the coaches..... How's that working for him??

I would agree to this to a point. Texas Tech has had the same system for awhile and they didn't seem to have a problem tackling SMU. We have basically the same unit as last year and Lord knows that had enough pratice against the run. Our Defense can only get better from here on out. If the SBC teams average 30+ against us, then I can see Dodge making his 1st hard move as the HC.

Fulce signed with New Orleans , but I guess he left when their coach bolted and now is at JUCO. Hope we land this kid the second time around.

Tank Johnson To Dallas
NT03 replied to NT03's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I'm just having fun now since I'm a REDKSINs FAN "Tank" Johnson In Trouble with the Law Again Like Frank "the Tank" in OId School, the Bears' "Tank" Johnson just never learns that there comes a time to tone it down a bit. The Bears defensive lineman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest early Sunday morning. According to the police report, Johnson was arrested near the Level night club around 3:45am when an officer attempted to issue a citation to Johnson because a limo he'd hired was obstructing traffic. Johnson said what are probably the words least likely thing to get you out of a ticket when he informed the cop, "You ain't the only one with a Glock. If it wasn't for your gun and your badge, I'd kick your ass." A struggle ensued when the officer tried to arrest Tank, and the officer sprayed him with Mace and required the assistance of other cops to finally overpower and cuff him. Because of injuried suffered during the struggle, Johnson spent part of Sunday getting an MRI after being released from jail. Amazingly, Johnson was not charged with any weapons violations Sunday. Guess he was bluffing about having a Glock. Was it left in the limo and the cops didn't search for weapons? Was he smart enough to leave it at home? Because he wasn't smart enough to leave the dangerous toys at home last June, leading to an arrest outside Excalibur for carrying a concealed Ruger 9mm handgun under the seat of his SUV. He eventually plead guilty to a misdemeanor stemming from that arrest and is currently on probation. No word yet on whether his arrest this weekend violated terms of his probation and could land him in some real hot water. Chicagoist has a feeling this won't be the last time that the Chicago police and Tank Johnson have a difference of opinion. Anyone want to make a prediction of the crime and cheesy nightclub that'll be the scene of the next Tank Johnson run-in? Chicagoist predicts assult and battery after hitting a patron at the Leg Room. -

Sun Belt Conference - Who's Leading The Pack ?

ASU also did what NT could not by beating SMU last Saturday 45-28. The Owls will head to Knoxville this weekend, attempting to get a victory on the road against the University of Tennessee. Did I miss something , I knew that the "Indians" were to be dropped. Maybe he just got confused with FAU??? -
Believe me , they will find a replacement.
