I guess I started this whole mess by suggesting he grey shirt based on us having to lose 2 players. I assumed that maybe benford let the 2 signees go. I didn't want to lose Clarke, that's why I suggested what I did. I don't think it was out of the realm of possiblity that the 2 signees would be asked to ask for their release. Marquette just did the same thing w/ the Durley kid. I've never said I didn't want Clarke here. My apologizes to anyone who took my idea and thought otherwise. One of the 1st texted I received when he 1st verballed was from a AAU coach who said Clarke was probably the best pure shooter in all of DFW for the 2012 class. What's not to like about that ??? I'm very happy he's on board. His playing time may be limited this year , but he should have a chance at big minutes down the road once we lose some key players like Walton & Patton If I sound in anways like I slighted the kid , I truly do apologize. Ive never had an issue critizing coaches or the AD , but the last thing I would ever want to do is sound like im being critical of a KID Welcome aboard & let's go dancing !!!

Quick recap : this is not that big of a deal, If anything it makes the BE stronger SMU will not be left without a home UNT & SMU will not be in the same conference This is going to be a very long off season

Just something to consider. If he ask for a release & we do NOT grant it to him , we waste that ship. We can't hold that against him & have it on the books while also getting someone to replace him

Benford may think Coleman would be a better fit. Odoh doesn't seem like the mix it up , physical type we need down low. We have Roger , but the guy is no taller than 6'5. We don't need a big to score , we just need a big to be physical & have a presence in the paint. We also need someone to help protect TM. Tony will have a target on his back. I can see teams coming after him with hard fouls & possible cheap shots. I think someone like Coleman on the floor could make someone second guess those thoughts. Guy looks pretty rough !!

Maybe he didn't want one and would rather have Coleman ? Just a guess I can't see UNT not releasing him of his LOI. Something like that can hurt you down the road in recruiting. If Odoh doesn't want to come here , there is no reason to hold it against him. The poor kid doesn't even speak fluent English and knows no one on campus. No reason to drag this out & punish him. You hold him hostage for a year & you eliminate hill junior college from any further recruiting trips. You also risk the move being used against you by other coaches in a head 2 head battle over a player

Gotcha.. I think it's a natural reaction for the players & some fans to want that immediately. There were also some things that went on behind the scences that had people scared to death of a mass exit of players. Luckily JJ & Forrest calmed everyone down even tho they both were both out the door. Both class acts. I agree that Benford could probably surround himself with a much better staff than Forrest Forrest's time will come. He will one day be a head coach

Here are some of your quotes when we the coaching search was going on : Im all about Fran being hired, I just wanted a coach that at least made it past the first round This is the year to make a splash, we need a proven HC that can take these guys to the next level Maybe I'm missing something or totally missing your original post. Did you say Benford should be the guy ? Side note , I think it's pretty clear that Robinson is gone
