  1. Vote for Coach of the Year
  2. It's simple. Assess your strengths - continue to work those to perfection. Assess your weaknesses - work to correct and strengthen. A season is not one game, but an accumulation of games leading to New Orleans. OU was lesson one.
  3. Expect heads held high, 100% effort and cover the spread! ! ! Go Mean Green
  4. Good point. New questions. Do players sign to play for the coach or the university? Who should be responsible for academic promises made to athletes.....the coach or the university?
  5. Not too far off - Meager has been holding and TUNE has been kicking during summer workouts.
  6. The athletic department was notified July 9 that Steven Woodward would be withdrawing from UNT.
  7. Not necessarily. If the player is contacted by scout, rivals or other websites, they ask the player to list their top 5 schools of their interest. In that instance there will not be a listed recruiter. If the college is actively recruiting you and they (the school) provide that information, there will most likely be a recruiter listed. As for a list of considerations, that is very personal. It will depend on how much input the player gets / requests from his family and their influence on points to consider. The more experienced with the process that a family member / advisor is, the better chance the player won't choose his path with head in the clouds and stars in his eyes. Outside of the family, I think the number one influence is the college recruiter. Can he gain the trust of the player and his family / advisors?
  8. Good source tells us that Dylan was contacted by 2 teams (as of yesterday). Chiefs were one.
  9. Emmitt, our prayers and gratitude are with you and the families. Thank you for your service. Linda
  10. We attended U of AR games during an alumni reunion/tribute. I believe they do this alumni tribute every year. Former band members, cheer, pom and mascots are present. Band members dress in street attire, (some in their old uniforms), cheer, pom and mascots dress in their uniforms from their period. (Surprisingly the cheer and pom girls could still fit into their uniforms.) The band members march before the game. During the game the alumni band members sit in a section together. The mascots, cheer/ pom girls & guys perform alongside the current squads during the game. Also, they have former athletes present. Before the game, former athletes are accessible for autographs. At halftime they are introduced on the field and a short bio is given on each one. It was really fun to watch the alumni relive their college experience.
  11. OK Senate committee passed Bill 451, which would ban non-school-related athletic practices for children 13 and younger outdoors or in un-airconditioned facilities when the heat index reaches 95 degrees as determined by the National Weather Service. The heat index measures how hot it actually feels outside by using temperature and humidity. Sen. Earl Garrison, D-Muskogee, said the bill was requested by physicians in Muskogee. "The problem is that when you're talking about non-school-related activities, you may not have people who have the training like school coaches, and that is our major concern," he said. Feedback please.
  12. Yes, Tanner Shuck - Jenks OK
  13. Back in the day....I was involved with a charity that held a Liza Minnelli concert. Apart from all the volunteer hours, it was a breeze. We found an open date for Ms. Minnelli, obtained a local event/music promoter, several corporations (mostly oil industry & banking) underwrote the event and the profits went to our charity. Ms. Minnelli actually donated a portion of her appearance fee to us as well.
  14. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
  15. Disagree. Stanford's admissions requirements are set very high. If he was being considered at Stanford, then he most likely will be able to meet requirements at a public university. No one should look down on that circumstance. The last SAT test date was Dec. 2, scores were just mailed out on Jan. 10.
  16. I feel bad for the Morgans, however, I believe Stanford is similar to Princeton in their programs. They do not have athletic scholarships per se, but academic funds for players. If he did not meet his required scores on his entrance exams, the withdrawal of a scholarship would be out of the hands of Coach Harbaugh. Could be good for UNT.
  17. My first was 1968 against Tulsa. It was a recruiting visit at Tulsa with my high school sweetheart. Don't remember much about the game. As we were leaving my ex was approached by someone recruiting for NT and I'll never forget asking (Oh so blondely) "So, where is Denton?". His response - "A little closer to Tulsa than SMU or the Horned Frogs". What are the Horned Frogs?? Found out later that they were really Horney Toads (as we called them up here in Tulsa). As a UNT supporter, my first game at Fouts was 2006 - SMU. We had very mixed emotions driving down to the game due to all the negative posts I was reading that morning on this board. I was expecting much less support than I saw. What a wonderful surprise to see the tailgaiting, the game and the enthusiasum of the fans. We had such high hopes after that bright beginning; only to slide to the dark end of last season. But now look at this board - great, positive, forward thinking group!!! Can't wait until September!!!
  18. Interesting article from todays Tulsa World regarding Stoops. Tulsa World Article re Stoops
  19. Fan and community support. You cannot walk into a business in Norman that does not have memorabilia, posters or at the very least a schedule posted. Another big difference - their students live in the community. It would be interesting to see what percentage of students live on campus, or within a 5 mile radius, in Norman vs Denton.
  20. Word at Tulsa is Kragthorpe is going to Louisville. Announcement tomorrow evening. It has been reported that several committed recruits are now withdrawing their commitments.
  21. Being an alien from outside Texas, it's only been 3 years that I've known of UNT and its location. During the past year we've had inquiries as to where our son is attending college. When we respond with "University of North Texas", their first response is, "The 'Mean Green', now is that in Dallas?". Reading on this board of the passion those of you who are alums exhibit, I've started noting to myself the common thread that those outside the state of Texas and the program recognize. It is 'MEAN GREEN'. Most of our family, friends, neighbors and press still can't get the school name correct. Most don't know that our mascot is an Eagle, most still think it's in Dallas, but they all know 'Mean Green'.
  22. Arkansas has a reputation of misleading players to get them to sign. This quartet from Springdale (I'm including Coach Mulzan) are at the top of the talent pool. Our hs played them in 2005 - they gave us a clinic. Ran a spead NFL style no huddle offense. Those kids were amazing. Mustang was going to Notre Dame and Williams was headed to either Miami or ND, before AR hired their coach to be their OC. Any of this group would be quality players for UNT.
  23. Cannot speak on behalf of all parents, but this family is very happy. Dodge seems to be a coach that will be a good role model for our sons, a teacher of the game that will enact a disciplined form of football, and who should quickly obtain their respect.
