  1. Thanks very much for the complement. It's very much appreciated. I know what you mean about the Michigan style. After FFR suggested Michigan, and I was curious. Here's a slight variation. There's more green showing, and I just removed the top wing all together. From the front you would see green with white wings coming out from the temples and connecting in the back.
  2. And for additional comparison, addressing the much debated green helmet vs. white helmet:
  3. For comparison, then, a green and a white facemask: I prefer the black facemask.
  4. I agree with you. I think the facemask should usually be in contrast to what else you have. I like the black against the white and green. Gives it more dimension and makes it more interesting.
  5. Did I make a mistake? What?
  6. Other sport designs are on the way.
  7. Just playing with possible helmet designs, using the kelly green and the new diving eagle logo: I think the eagle needs to be as big as possible, but the beak and claws have to be uncovered as much as possible by the facemask. So I just cut off the tips of the wings: FFR suggested a Michigan Wolverines style helmet, which gave me the idea to increase the size of the eagle and completely cutting off the head, just using the body and wings flowing back. This is in the style of the Philadelphia Eagles, Michigan, Minnesota Vikings, and St. Louis Rams, with head appendages of their mascots flowing back around the helmet. But it still uses the new UNT logo. I think its different enough to not be a copy of someone else. Here is this style with the eagle in two different sizes: What do you think?
  8. You want to hurt some like Ms Engel? Really hurt her? Ignore her. Don't listen to her show, don't read her columns, don't respond to her insults. I know it's difficult, but the worse thing anyone can ever do to people like her or Randy Galloway is ignore them. They thrive on confrontation and would much rather be insulted than ignored.
  9. There is one way - and only one way - we are ever going to quiet those criticisms. Win. How many times have members of this very forum commented what a joke the program is, what a joke Dickey ball was? How our facilities are lacking? How we don't recruit well? Don't be surprised when others feel that way, too. We have yet to give people a real reason to feel otherwise. Hiring Coach Dodge is a huge step in changing that perception, and he sees far deeper into the potential of UNT than does Ms. Engel. But the only way to gain respect is to win out of conference games, the way Troy gained respect by beating Missouri. That's what we need - wins against solid teams from the big-time conferences. I have little doubt that it will happen under Coach Dodge. A caution: venting on this board is one thing, but sending profane messages to the media does not help. It only reinforces their perception of us as a bunch of losers, small-timers, and it will back-fire. I promise it will back-fire. So let them talk. Let them question us. At least they're talking about us and not ignoring us. And in the end, I believe UNT and Coach Dodge will have the final word.
  10. I already got my football Christmas present: hope.
  11. Other sports are my next stop.
  12. Riley Dodge just threw up about two seconds before taking a snap and tossing a perfect touchdown pass for the lead in the fourth quarter.
  13. Indeed. Maybe Coach Dodge can keep him and Riley together. They're both juniors. But Newton's being looked at by most of the Big 12 and TCU. How disheartening must that be for Southlake opponents? Got to face both of these kids again next year. Also, how impressive is this Westlake quarterback?
  14. Amazing 74 yard TD run by Newton. Replay showed that nine Westlake players got their hands on him. Just shrugged off all of them. 29-22, Southlake.
  15. 22-22. Westlake's ill-advised attempt for two points on their first touchdown is really showing up. Forget what the chart says, get the point early in the game. Going for two is for specific situations, usually in the fourth quarter.
  16. You might send Harry a PM about that. I don't why it would be displaying differently, but I've noticed a few other avatars displaying too large. Let me know if there's something I need to do to the graphics. And thanks for the kind words.
  17. Oh, how long would that missed screen have gone? Ouch.
  18. That could come back to haunt Westlake - dominating into the second quarter but only up 6-0.
  19. I think they listen, but I think the whole branding program is going to take precedent. They're going to use the kelly green, not the darker green, and they're going to use the new logo and fonts. I think that leaves out the interlocked NT and the Virginia Tech-style NT. If you want to build tradition, you have to settle on a logo, font, and color scheme and stick with it. I expect the uniform and helmet to be some combination of those spirit marks. Frankly, the only tradition I care about is winning.
  20. By the way, if anyone else wants to create UNT graphics, here's a link to the UNT Identity Guide to download spirit marks: http://www.unt.edu/identityguide Here is the hexidecimal number of the official Mean Green green: #059033 And here is the RGB formula: Red: 5, Green: 144, Blue: 51
  21. I recently made a few avatars for this forum, and someone asked about turning one of them into a wallpaper. Sounded like a good idea, so I went looking for inspiration from other universities, and found that several schools have large libraries of graphics for their boosters. I wanted UNT to have the same kind of web presence, and I’ve been working on that since. I've put my initial efforts on the internet. Click here to visit: Mean Green Graphics. Please feel free to download and use any of the UNT graphics. I’ve prepared forty-seven avatars and fourteen wallpapers. The wallpapers are football oriented, but I’m working on wallpapers for other men’s and women’s sports. I’d love to hear any suggestions. The avatars are in .png format, which is the format used in GoMeanGreen.com’s library. All wallpapers are in .jpg format and are available in three resolutions: 800x600, 1024x768, and 1280x1024. Let me know if you would like a different size. I'll add more graphics as I have time, and I hope to prepare some screensavers and icons for desktop themes. If anyone has suggestions for other formats or uses, let me know. In the meantime, Merry Christmas, Mean Green. I hope you enjoy. Mean Green Graphics Here's a thumbnail of a wallpaper featuring Johnny Quinn: FULL DISCLOSURE: I put these graphics on a subdomain of my commercial website. There is no mention of my commercial site on any of these pages, nor are there any links to the commercial website. Obviously, the primary domain’s name is listed in the address of the subdomain. The spirit marks were downloaded from UNT’s Identity Guide website. UNT makes these marks freely available in PostScript format, which is vector-based rather than bit-mapped, allowing for easy alteration of size without loss of resolution. All such marks are trademarks of the University of North Texas. The action photographs of UNT athletes are by Rick Yeatts and published on meangreensports.com. I shot a few of the photos used on some avatars, some photographs were published in various locations on the internet, and I purchased some artwork from stock photo websites.
  22. That's becoming pretty standard at programs throughout the country. Nice Christmas present to get a $250 discount this year. That's also a nice tip of the hat to those who have stuck with the program. Thanks, UNT.
  23. Absolutely. Frankly, the only result that is really hard to explain is SMU beating Arkansas State 55-9. We saw both those teams, and no way was SMU 46 points better. But the most telling result is last night's game. Two schools, fairly representative of their conferences, both in their first bowl game ever (Troy) or in decades (Rice). Both teams had time to prepare, everything to play for, nothing to lose, on a neutral field - and the Sun Belt won big. I can barely believe it myself, but that 4-3 record against Conference USA is real.
  24. How about this one:
  25. I rounded the football to make it look like the ball used in dodgeball.
