  1. It does not say that they polled a journalism class. It says a journalism class did the polling. Nothing wrong with that. Polling is one of the things that journalists do. However, the very proper questions that should be addressed to the report and to the journalism class that took the poll are: who did they poll, how did they select those to be polled, and what questions did they ask? This political season has shown how easy it is to skew results one way or another by the way questions are phrased. Before I put any faith in this poll, I want to know their methodology. As to the vote, there's nothing wrong with us discussing things. Some, including UNTflyer and those directing the pro-stadium campaign, feel that the alumni should not get involved in the campaign. It's a student vote, so let the students and the athletic department handle it. Of course it's okay to discuss the stadium vote. But everyone should be aware that comments on this board expressing disdain for the students and the vote could be used by the anti-stadium forces in their campaign.
  2. Yeah, I saw that and thought, "Oh, cool! Oh, no, just a mistake."
  3. I don't think this is a must win, but I do believe it is extremely important for the team to be competitive. After the bad ending to 2007 (FIU) and the steps backward the program took against K-State and Tulsa, I thought the Mean Green took a step forward against LSU. Maybe a small step, but you got to start somewhere. Now the Mean Green needs to show improvement in successive weeks. After the rollercoaster 2007 season, UNT needs some consistency. The obvious goal is to win, and I agree that this is a game UNT can win. We're not talking about a top-25 program in Rice. The only satisfying result is a win. But there are other goals. First, UNT at least needs to be competitive. After what Troy did against Ohio State, it will be very disappointing if UNT doesn't still have a legitimate chance to win entering the fourth quarter. Some other goals: Score at least 21-24 points. Hold Rice under 35 points. We've got to start doing that. Get a couple of turnovers and a QB sack. Improve on special teams. Any other thoughts?
  4. I like your avatar. I need to make avatars out of some of those icons. Forgot to do that.
  5. Just shows what you can do with Microsoft Frontpage and a few bits of clip art: embarrass yourself.
  6. It might help to ease up on the righteous indignation. This attitude of "How dare you oppose this!" is self-defeating. It will not go over well. Students are being asked for money for a new stadium. If you ask me for money for a project, I am going to want to be able to vote on that project. That's just fair. Both sides in this debate will make their case, and if one side lies then the other side can rebut the lies. That's the way the system is supposed to work. But the alumni need to stay out of the way. No pulling down flyers or taking ads in the Daily or calling names or cajoling potential voters. Voicing your opinion on this board is fine, but keep in mind that the more involved the alumni appear to be in this, the more resistent the students will be. It will look like a bunch of old people trying to wring money out of students. UNTflyer and other students have this well in hand. This is their battle. Let them fight it.
  7. And which of us is going to pay for the extra 8,000 seats? Fiscal realities must invade this debate. It appears (hard to tell during a silent period) that we are having a tough time raising the $60 million needed for a 32,000-seat stadium. Yet there are complaints that this is not enough. Frankly, I would love to see a 40,000-seat stadium. Only I don't have an extra ten or twenty million dollars lying around to pay for it. So, for those pushing for a larger stadium, you must answer the question: where will you get the money? And before you say, "That's RV's job," don't you think that RV is trying to raise as much money as he can and will build as big and nice a stadium as he possibly can? This new stadium is going a long way toward writing his legacy. He and we all know that UNT needs a new stadium. But we can only build as big and nice a new stadium as UNT can afford.
  8. Yeah, but...but...Dickey...black uniforms...Dickey...aw, damn it.
  9. Final: Ohio State 28, Troy 10. Troy outgained OSU 315-309, but that interception in the third and the bad field position from the punt exchange turned the momentum. Sounds like they put up a hell of a fight. Did the Sun Belt proud. But if I'm Troy, I'm thinking about missed opportunities and a missed chance for a major victory.
  10. Touchdown, Ohio State. 28-10, 4:46 left.
  11. Another punt exchange. This time Troy starts at its own 4. 8:27 left.
  12. Troy couldn't move, punted from their own 3. OSU hits a 38-yard TD pass. 21-10 early fourth quarter. That interception inside the OSU 10 and the ensuing punt exchange turned momentum.
  13. Stay tuned after the game for online porn play-by-play. Only on Smittyvision.
  14. It's Smittyvision. Actually, I've got ESPN Gamecast window open on my computer with the OSU-Troy game play-by-play on it. I just thought folks might like a few updates. The game is on TV on Big Ten network, whatever that it is. I don't have it. I tried to find the game on internet radio, but OSU and Troy require paid registration to listen to their broadcasts online. Screw that.
  15. Bad punt exchange. Troy punts from midfield, goes into the endzone. OSU punts from its 39, downs it at the Troy 2.
  16. Troy put together a good drive to start the second half but Ohio State intercepted to stop it. Troy now with nearly 100 yards more offense than OSU. Still 14-10, late third quarter.
  17. Ohio State drives into scoring position, but Troy sacks the OSU QB for a 17-yard loss. Ohio State heaves it into the endzone on the final play of the half - intercepted. Halftime, OSU 14, Troy 10. Total yards, Troy 170, OSU 164. Time of possession: Troy 14:10, OSU 15:50.
  18. Troy, 45-yard TD pass, Hampton to Jernigan. 14-10, OSU, 1:49 left in the half. Troy has now out-gained OSU, 170-128.
  19. Touchdown, OSU. 39-yard pass. 14-3, Buckeyes.
  20. Ohio State intercepts Hampton at the Troy 37.
  21. Troy has held OSU since their first TD. OSU has only 11 yards offense since their first drive, and the teams' total yards are almost even. Troy drove inside the Ohio State ten but had to settle for a field goal. OSU 7, Troy 3, early second quarter. First drive after the Troy FG: Ohio State three and out, -6 yards. Troy has the ball back. Troy QB Hampton is 9 for 11 for 50 yards.
  22. Ohio State's opening drive: 60 yards, 13-yard TD pass. 7-0, 10:14 in first quarter. ...and Troy's first possession: three and out, 0 yards. Ohio State starts its second drive at its own 45. Not the start Troy was looking for.
  23. And Elizabeth Banks from Invincible (don't have a photo from the film, but this should do):
