You must really hate Tune.

Does anyone else have the feeling Dodge is coaching to his system rather than to the particular attributes of his players? Kind of, this is my system and this is what I run, regardless of whether or not I have the players to run it.

How Would The 02 And 03 Teams Fair In Today's Sun Belt?
Smitty replied to calvin's topic in Mean Green Football
Absolutely. They were utterly dominant then and nothing I've seen suggests they would not be at least at the top of the league - if not still dominant - today. Dominant defense combined with a powerful, explosive running game and capable passing game is tough to beat. Remember that final possession against Cincinnati in New Orleans? UNT preserved its lead and ran out the clock by running the ball down the Bearcats throat. They knew it was coming and could do nothing about it. The spread can be fun to watch and maybe it will succeed here. But I loves me some smash-mouth football. -

You just don't get it, Quoner. Who needs wins when you've got excitement and yards and first downs? -
What Has To Happen For This Season To Be A Success?
Smitty replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't know if I'd call it a successful season, but at this point it would qualify as progress if UNT can be competitive in the remaining games. No more thirty-, forty-, and fifty-point blow outs. It's major progress at this point to be in a game entering the fourth quarter. Play well and play hard for four quarters, keep learning, establish some people at positions that are unsettled right now, and come out of the season feeling better about themselves than they probably do right now. It just seems to be putting the cart before the horse to be thinking about competing for the conference title right now. Maybe that will happen, but before we can compete for league championships, we have to be competitive in games. -
Only Expectation For This Saturday, Is I Will Be There,

That is completely reasonable. -

Middle In All Black...tonight On Espn
Smitty replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Blackshirts with blue trim and blue numbers. Black pants with blue and white stripes. Their usual silver helmets. Well, the all black uniforms worked so well for Georgia last week. -
I have no expectations whatsoever for this game. No clue as to how UNT will show up for this one - beaten or defiant, shaken or angry. All I want is for UNT to get off to a good start, maybe score first, stop FIU's first couple of possessions, get some confidence, and stay close all day. Be competitive. Still be in the game in the fourth quarter, and when it's finished feel like they belonged on the same field as the opponent. Oh, yeah. And I'd love it if we smashed FIU's frickin' skulls. Yeah, that'd be good.

Have We Lost All Of The Momentun Of The Dodge Hire?
Smitty replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Couldn't agree with you more about the lack of improvment in 16 games. I don't blame anyone for anything being said this week. Who could have imagined (shut up, Fake Lonnie) that things would be this bad at this point? 54 points a game? Just unthinkable. I really do feel bad for the players. This has got to be terrible for a group of young people. I just hope they hold their heads up. -
Yeah, but do you really want the first football game your child sees to be North Texas vs. FIU? The Bottom 10 Bowl? Could scar 'em for life. Hell, look what it's doing to us.

Married but not a father...but I would not ask. Unless you have family or someone staying with her to help, I would suggest staying close by for a few days. That's the kind of thing that could hold you in high regard for years - or be held over your head for eternity.

Have We Lost All Of The Momentun Of The Dodge Hire?
Smitty replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
I was not talking about your comments. Sorry if it came off that way. I was just agreeing with Kram's post, and I don't know if he was referring to any comments of yours. My comment regarding Dodge was in reference to posts elsewhere about firing him, and was just a general observation that it's too early to judge Dodge or his recruits. Didn't mean to link you to calls for Dodge's head. My apologies for the confusion. -

Complete agreement. It takes three or four years to judge an NFL team's draft, so how can you judge a class of 18-year olds just one year later? I agree with a lot of the criticism being made this week, but it's too early to be firing coaches or labeling a recruiting class a bust. -
Buying A Daily Ad To Support The Stadium Vote
Smitty replied to rcade's topic in Mean Green Football
Actually, I think there is something we as alumni can do to support this vote. There are just two home games before the vote. Make sure you are at those games. Bring friends. Bring family. Strong attendance at these two games could only help the cause and send a message to the students and to potential contributors that the alumni are with the program, win or lose. It will also let the students know that the alumni will be there when it comes time to help raise the rest of the funding for a new stadium. If you can't go to a game, post your tickets on the Ticket Exchange. If you need tickets or know someone who might like to attend, check the Ticket Exchange. Make sure no ticket that has already been purchased goes unused. If you can't sell your tickets then give them to somebody. Maybe there are some local youths that would like to attend. I'm not saying all is well and I'm not saying you have to support the current coaches. But this goes well beyond Todd Dodge or RV. This is about the long-term vision for our University. We can talk all we want about the need for a new stadium, but it will speak much louder for the alumni to show up in big numbers, especially on the heels of last week's game. Fill Fouts to replace Fouts. -
Cell Phone Suggestions?
Smitty replied to Smitty's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Thanks to everyone for your help. I find myself looking forward to having more than just a phone. Of course, I've a learning curve ahead of me. I made all those cellphone wallpapers and I've never found out how to put one on my own phone. I've never even sent a text message. Ever. -
Hey, at least we knew this was coming. And ESPN's going to do it, too. I think their new Bottom 10 comes out tomorrow.
