Florida Woman Arrested for Burning Husband's Groin, Police Say Thursday, October 09, 2008 BRADENTON, Fla. — Authorities say a woman has been arrested in west Florida after pouring scalding hot water on her husband's groin. Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested 52-year-old Maverna Theresa Turay on Wednesday on a charge of aggravated battery with great bodily harm. She was being held at the Manatee County jail on $7,500 bond. Authorities say Turay boiled the water and threw it on her husband's groin while he slept. He sustained second degree burns and ran out of the house screaming while a relative called 911, according to a sheriff's report. The man was flown to a Tampa hospital for treatment. The report says Turay did not give a reason for pouring the water on her husband, but said she had been drinking alcohol.

That's pretty much my agenda for Saturday.
-
I plan to enjoy a nice autumn evening, wear my green, watch me some football, listen to the band, have me a big soft pretzel, and cheer for North Texas. But all I really want Saturday is for the Mean Green players to feel good about themselves when this game is over. Hope to see everybody at Fouts.

Valid Reasoning For An Athletic Fee. Please Read.

Excellent research. A single quote from that information might be good on flyers being distributed around campus. Something like: Then run the full story on the Facebook website in favor of the new stadium. That also would have been good in an op-ed piece in the Daily. Maybe UNTflyer is already using some of that in his presentations to student groups. -
Amen. Does anyone remember where we were before Rick V came to UNT? Just where this program was? We would not have come this far without his efforts. There are some very harsh realities we are all dealing with right now, but I do not believe Rick V has given up for one moment.

I wonder how much the economic crisis is playing in this vote. Even if it's not the primary reason impacting people's decision, even if it's just on a subconcious level, the timing of this vote just couldn't be worse. It could be the perfect storm - the economy crashes and so does the football team.

Also agreed.

Our football "team" doesn't "suck." What kind of "negative" statement is that? I'm tired of these negative "comments" no matter how grounded in hard, cold, unshakeable "reality" they may be. I say enough of negative reality! I want only happy reality! Bright shiny happy happy joy joy reality! You've got to "keep" the faith"!" It's onward and upward! The road is turning our way! I feel a "comeback" coming this week! I say the FUTURE IS NOW, despite the so-called "theories" of Mr. Einstein and the violation of the "laws" of the space-time continuum and the fact that if the future is now then now is the future and that means we'll still be getting out ass kicked next year and next year and NEVERMIND ALL THAT 'cause the "winning" begins this week! Go Mean Green!

I think one thing in favor of continued football at UNT, even if things go completely awry, is that football games have become much more of an event than they were in former days, and we have to thank RV for that. Tailgating and the village and all the activities out there on game day make this more than just a football game for the students to attend. Back in the day it was just a game by a bad team. Today there's more reason than just football to go to Fouts.

So does my wife. By the way, you made those up, didn't you? Cause they're not on Wikipedia, and if it's not on Wikipedia it does not exist. And, conversely, if it is on Wikipedia...it is completely true and very real. Wait a minute, one of them is on Wikipedia. GILF - Gilf Kebir is a plateau in the remote southwest corner of Egypt. Its name translates as "the Great Barrier." This 7770-square-kilometre limestone and sandstone plateau roughly the size of Switzerland rises 300m from the desert floor. It is known for its rugged beauty, remoteness, geological interest, and the dramatic cliff paintings and rock carvings which depict an era of abundant animal life and human habitation. The Gilf Kebir contains the Kebira Crater, a 950-meter (3,100-foot) impact crater, dating to fifty million years ago, and part of a field that spreads over 4,500 square kilometers (1,750 square miles) — more than seventy-five times larger than Earth's next largest known crater field. Beautiful, isn't it?

Okay, what does that one mean? I admit, I am ignorant when it comes to text-message abbreviations. Sometimes I have to refer to wikipedia to figure out what's being said on this board (hey, the old guy has heard of Wikipedia!). I'll look this one up...Rolling On the Floor Laughing My Ass Off. You know, I'm sure my dad had no idea what we were talking about when I was a kid - but he didn't LITERALLY not know what we were talking about it. I mean, he could understand what we said, even if we didn't make any sense. I still haven't figured out why some attractive women are referred to as MILFs. What does the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (go ahead, look it up) have to do with anything? And do you think the young members of the MILF, which is a Philippine rebel group, snicker now when their leaders use that abbreviation? Jeez, I'm old.

I've been watching UNT football almost as long as you. Yes, we've peed against the same concrete wall (in those glorious days before waterless urinals). And at 2-17 to start, I can honestly say that I have never seen a winner like this at North Texas, either. Look, maybe Dodge will turn this around. I certainly hope so. I feel terrible for these freshman and sophomores that are getting fed into the meatgrinder. I can accept losing while rebuilding, but I cannot accept the lopsided losses that are doing nothing but shattering these kids' confidence. The complete inability of Dodge to prepare a team to be even modestly competitive - never mind win - is an indictment of Todd Dodge, whether you want to hear it or not. The king may have no clothes, but some don't want to hear it.
-
I have little doubt Dodge could land another top-level high school job without much difficulty. He is an outstanding high school coach and I would think a number of programs would be lined up to get him.
-
Hey, it's much easier to toss out a blanket indictment of a bunch of young men who will soon be moving on than to impune the head coach in whom you've invested so much emotional committment.

Ah, the sweet religious fevor of blind faith. No proof needed. Just give me that old time moral character.
-
Actually, it can get worse. Sagarin has us ranked No. 180 out of 246 I-A and I-AA schools.
-
You can have your faith. I want to see proof that this coach and his staff and put a competitive football team on the field this year. And if the future is now, man, are we screwed.

But, if most of his staff must go, then can you not draw from that conclusion that Dodge did a poor job of assembling a staff? Doesn't that call his basic college football judgment into question, and can you trust him to assemble a new staff? After all, his one replacement hire was of DeLoach, a former UNT coach who was very successful. He got lucky on the timing, since a change was coming to UCLA and DeLoach was going to be available. That was a choice he knew was going to be very well received and would give him some breathing room. We have not seen Dodge do a real open job search to find a new coach. If this staff is so bad (and I'm not arguing the point pro or con) then isn't that a scathing indictment of Todd Dodge? If he fires multiple assistants, then isn't it kind of saying "All of these guys I hired are bad, but I'm okay?"
-
I have a serious problem with a coach who can only coach "his guys."
-
I am firmly of the belief that when you hire a coach, that coach gets a minimum of four years, probably five, to prove himself. But I find myself wavering on that belief in the face of this unthinkable season. I ask the following soberly and not in emotional reaction to the FIU game, but rather in light of what is transpiring this year and in concern over the possible long-term damage a season like this can do to a coach, young players, and this program as a whole: If this team goes 0-12 and is not competitive in a single game, if this team is unable to be in a game beyond the second quarter even one time, are you forced to fire the head coach? Can you bring back a coach whose team, no matter how young, is blown out in 12 out of 12 games as UNT is on track to do? And if you are seriously talking about making changes to this staff, as has been discussed on this board, for the second year in a row, then doesn't that call into question the judgment of the coach who assembled that staff, and therefore don't you have to hold that coach responsible? I can't believe I am bringing this up, but then I can't believe what is happening to this team.
