Absolutely. And who suffers? You and you and you and me and UNT!
-
We don't need a Phil Bennett or Guy Morriss type coach. We don't have 5 to 6 years to rebuild what didn't work in the first place nor do we have the time to build something new from scratch. We already spent 13 years of our most valuable commodity...time, only to be ranked #117 or so in D1A. We never made it over the first hill. We need someone who can put the product on the field today, right now. Don't bring someone in here that has absolutely no name recognition in the DFW area and with Texas high schools. As someone already said, you might as well have kept Dickey. Dickey may very well get the last laugh. I hope not!

Sit back if thats what you would like to do. The rest of us may assert what we want as long as it meets the forum rules, right? If we couldn't then whats the use of this forum?
-
Nix? If it is Nix then it's over for UNT. It would take years just to see if he could build a top tier program and we don't have that kind of time. RV would be long gone and what few fans remain would be left scratching their heads and wondering what the hell happened. SMU and TCU will breathe a sigh of relief if that happens. But ya know, we have been cursed for a long time so it won't surprise me if our people stumble all over themselves and screw this up, wasting 500,000 dollars and one perfect opportunity. With Dodge we move five steps ahead of where we are today even before he steps on the field this spring.

This will be our last chance to see UNT reach the level of college football that up until now we could only dream about. We are talking top 15 and better in three years if we hire Coach Dodge. There will be no more opportunities for UNT. It comes down to this one very important decision. Make the wrong one and its over for good. I promise you that SMU and TCU and others are bitting their nails right now hoping we screw up just one more time. Todd Dodge knows Denton and he knows UNT. He COACHED here! He needs a D1A coaching position where he can continue to coach his son and we need a headcoach who knows how to win with excitement. Coach Dodge would be with us for 5 years, six if he redshirts his son. He will build us a new stadium at Mean Green Village and then he will pack it down, shake it until it overflows with fans. He will make the Mean Green a household name nationwide. We will have our best recruiting year ever, up to this point, in 2007. We will have a winning record next year. We will win the SBC. We will win the bowl game. We will win OOC games next year. We will average over 25,000 fans per game next year. Todd Dodge will elevate the SBC in stature and prestige. Coach Dodge will position UNT to form or join another conference should we deem that necessary. WE NEED TODD DODGE! Don't screw this up.

Mattress Mac's passion was for Dickey not the program.
-
Thank you Zeke. That picture is worth a thousand words.

I also think that what hurt us a lot more than what people will admit to or even dare broach was the lack of discipline on and off the field during our winning SBC years. The fights, arrest and yes the tragic death of Andrew. The reports of drunkenness concerning our coaching staff and some players in New Orleans and Denton most certainly was used against us in the recruiting war. I think a lot of quality recruits had to have been guided away from us by players parents and the kids coaches. If Mattress Mac wants people to hear the other side of the story well we should point it out looking at it from all angles. Dickey ran a reckless ship and I personally don't believe he is the saint many are making him out to be. He got lucky. He was at the right place at the right time, thats all.

Can anyone find and post the picture of Dr. Bataille working for Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans. I can't find it. The reason I ask is because if one looks very closely at the picture you will see that Dr. Bataille is not only wearing a North Texas Football sweatshirt she is also wearing a Sun Belt baseball cap. This woman obviously knows not only who we are and but where we are! Knowing that she played a role in the firing of Dickey makes me believe that Dr. Bataille's vision is bigger and better than Dickey's and Mattress Mac's. Everyone take a breath of fresh air!

Name Practice Fields for Dickey, but name

Excellent Post! Very well stated.

Who was the person that donated 2,000,000 for the new tennis center? Compare him, his actions and his demands to Mattress Man. Thats all. He no longer controls you or me or our school!
-
Are we that brainwashed? Most of us are acting like 1,000,000 is an unbelievable sum of money. It shows us all how small we all think, how low our standards have become. Boone Pickens gives how many millions to OSU? 25? 30? Mattress Man buys control of our athletic program for a measly 1,000,000? Dickey was bad for UNT. Just look at the quality of his friend MM. But today I celebrate because today we have our freedom. Thank you Dr. Bataille and Rick Villarreal.
-
Good Lord Man, What would you do if some clown bought control of your department for a measly 1,000,000 dollars. RV could have left at any time but thank God he stayed and wrestled control back of our University's athletic program from an idiot who thinks he can buy people with his money! RV is a hero and don't any of you every forget that. He is taking a lot of hits from the media and others for helping you and me and our school. He didn't have to do that. We can thank Dr. Bataille as well. Dickey was wrong for UNT period! He never should have been hired and at the very least should have been fired after the 5-6 season.

Mattress Mac alienated himself from us!
-
GreenBat, It is in the sports section of todays dmns, page 6C. It's under Chuck Carlton's picks. His e-mail address is, ccarlton@dallasnews.com. Thats the best I can do. Maybe someone else can scan it.
-
Are you sure thats "all" he did?

I feel great. I will now renew my MGC membership and season tickets for next year. Can't wait. The strangulation that Big Mac had on UNT Athletics has ended! FINALLY. Those were some of the darkish years I have ever experienced concerning UNT football. We were being suffocated. People, our program was slowly dying right before our very eyes. This was way to close. Mattress Man, you aren't my friend. You didn't respect me or my fellow alumns, the students or The University of North Texas.

Here it is: "Never mind the record over the last two years. Darrell Dickey made UNT better than it had any right to be. Now he's gone in a particularly callous firing by the administration." What BS! Screw the record! Winning's not important. Yeah, right.
-
"Dickey made UNT better than it had any right to be." This was an actual quote in todays dallas morning news. UNBELIEVABLE!
-
According to the dmns "Dickey made UNT better than it had any right to be". Yeah right. What BS! A lot a people want to see UNT fail miserably at athletics and academics. Support the proposed new Law School! Support Rick Villarreal.
-
I can never thank the two of you enough for the courage and fortitude you displayed in making a critical decision concerning the future of Mean Green Football. Thank you! You did the right thing! Ignor the bullies in the press, on the radio talk shows and the ones employed at our own institution who would rather see UNT athletics wallow in mediocrity.

A couple of questions: Is Dunham and Miller's radio program R-rated or family rated? Is Mean Green Athletics R-rated or family rated? This is only a friendly debate designed to provoke thought. OK?
-
I would suggest that our new president might want to listen in to Dunham's radio show from time to time. No one can convince me that our Department of Radio, TV and Film hasn't produced some quality men and women who could do just as well as Dunham, maybe even better and also be a good role model as well. You people know this is only an opinion. It's just food for thought. I really have no problem with Dunham's broadcasting abilities when doing Mean Green Sports. Yes, he is very good.
-
Dunham will never match the greatness of Bill Mercer as a broadcaster. Furthermore, Dunham lacks the class and dignity exibited by Bill Mercer and quite frankly is a bad choice for the voice of our Mean Green. Oh yeah, almost forgot, in my humble oppinion.
