  1. No thank you. I would rather have Canales if we can't have Fran or Leavitt. I don't want anything below recent FBS level success.
  2. North Texas will lose this week because of two words. Norm Hitzges. He picked us to win and that has been a death sentence pretty much throughout history.
  3. You're probably right but it was Chip Brown who said it. He is like the "inside guy" at UT. He is the one who broke all the Big 12 meltdown news.
  4. Ok, you got me. I researched him more and changed my vote from Canales to Fran. I based everything on what he did with the Aggies but prior to that he was one heck of a coach it looks like. I still don't think Canales should be cast off because of who his previous boss was though.
  5. I heard on an Austin radio station this morning that current UT recruiting coordinator and North Texas alumnus Bruce Chambers is a candidate.
  6. I read that one earlier today. I work with an Aggie who passed it on. He said maybe Bill Byrne's son gave him some inside info that helped him decide not to leave the Big 12 minus 2 for the SEC. If even half of the stuff on that link is true, heads will roll and it will be very difficult for the NCAA not to give them the death penalty or something close, probation and a loss of 5 schollys won't do the trick this time.
  7. I've only bought in to the Mean Green Kool-Aid. I like Canales but will not cry if he is not hired. What burns me is that you write him off for circumstances beyond his control. If Fran was offensive coordinator this year until Dodge was fired, he would have fared no better. I like Fran and would be fine if he or Leavitt were the coach but do not write off Canales simply because he chose to try and help North Texas dig out of the Todd Dodge rut. You say you don't care who will be hired and then you say well you do care because the coach has to have previous ncaa head coaching experience. That means you would have passed on Mike Leach, Jim Leavitt, Chris Peterson, Gary Patterson, Joe Paterno, RC Slocum and more because they had no prior head coaching experience when they took the job they are known for.
  8. Plumm definitely wants Jason Garrett fired too even if he wins out. It has been proven that the only way to become a successful head coach is to have head coaching experience before your first head coaching job.
  9. One that will never step foot in Denton unless Ryan has a 4 or 5 star athlete he is recruiting to his next BCS school. Get real Plumm. Leach is not coming here and Canales is head-and-shoulders better than all of our previous hires that you term as "projects". He has been a BCS coordinator at programs in the top 25. He has shown he can win AT NORTH TEXAS and he is very positive about the program. He is like the perfect combination of bowl-run Dickey and positive-attitude Dodge.
  10. I hope that someday your boss gets fired, you take over and do a great job but ultimately get fired anyway because of who your old boss was.
  11. You gotta be kidding me, OU has gone O-fer in BCS bowls since Venables took over for Mike Stoops. Argh. I would take the DC from Nebraska or A&M over Venables.
  12. Plumm, I said nowhere in my post that Canales was THE guy but I think both he and Mark Stoops are a bit more qualified than any of our "project hires" of the past 30 years. None of the coaches you term as "projects" had their level of experience at bcs-level programs. Also, here is a news flash for you even though it has been pointed out before, Fran, Leavitt or anyone else is STILL a project hire until they win at NORTH TEXAS.
  13. Fixed. You will not name one head football coach currenly employed on good terms coming to NT and that is a fact. Call it as it is. If you want to think big time Plumm, then think Big Time. The big time programs hire "up-and-comers" all the time. The difference is, their "up-and-comers" are either head coaches at non-bcs schools or coordinators at top 25 bcs schools. You don't want to go "big time" and hire an "up-and-coming" head coach from a FCS program or other non-bcs program or a successful coordinator from a BCS program. You want to try and catch lightning in a bottle by hiring a falling star. You are thinking small time using the fallacy that because these guys were successful once upon a time at big programs that they would be successful at NORTH TEXAS and that is not necessarily the case. The guys you are in support of are unemployed for a reason, let us not forget that.
  14. Silly BCS schools, don't they know you have to have NCAA head coaching experience before you can be a successful NCAA head coach.
  15. Perhaps Mark Stoops should be added or we should start a new poll.
  16. Franks was named interim head coach because he was previously the head coach at Duke. Don't read so much into it.
  17. I disagree. Jim Harbaugh interviewed the last time and made no indication that he wanted anything more than to say he interviewed with us along with other schools to show how many programs were interested in him.
  18. My money is on him going to Washington State.
  19. I'm sure you'll find a happy home at North Texas if NT has a donor who is a cousin of T Boone. We have always wanted to be Texas Tech east (tortillas etc.) so you will fit right in.
  20. Neither Saban, Holtz, nor Spurrier were fired from their respective programs, so no, they are not retreads. Larry Coker is most certainly a retread in my eyes. He will not be successful at UTSA, Coker played Barry Switzer to Butch Davis' Jimmy Johnson. If not for Butch Davis leaving the program in such a good place when Coker took over, he wouldn't have won much of anything. The day Davis left, Miami started their fall from grace.
  21. My #1 and only major concern is having a coach come here looking at our job as a step down. He takes the job because he couldn't get on anywhere else. I can't see someone like that putting their full heart and effort into our program. I just can't see Leach or Fran(maybe even Leavitt) coming here and bleeding Mean Green after coaching at Big 12 programs with all the facilities, recruits, and BCS dollars that go with those positions. They would become like Darrell Dickey even though we would actually have fantastic facilities.
  22. I don't see how a retread is going to be "the answer" for the last 30 years of apathy. Howard Schnellenberger won a national championship so he certainly was "star-studded" and that hasn't translated into FAU being a national power. I am not saying we should not hire someone who has been a head coach on more than an interim basis. I am just saying don't discredit Canales if he can get it done solely because he was brought in during Todd Dodge's last year.
  23. Don't forget they've proven they can get fired as head coach too or they would all still be employed.
  24. At this point(which may change as the season goes forward) I would take Canales and use the savings to go after quality assistants.
  25. I was referring to his talk with George Dunham after the game on the radio.
