  1. Wasn't Mac told he had to hire Canales as OC when he came in?
  2. He was talking about Skladany who has never been a head coach. Despite the opinions in this thread, I believe he is the best DC we've had since I've been following the program closely(back to '05). Even with the poor season this year, we were a top 40 defense before the UTSA game. That game may drop us to the mid-40s but still not a Ron Mendoza or SMU defense.
  3. I don't know if any of you guys saw the Baylor/Texas Tech game, but I'm sure glad Big 12 powerhouse Baylor, the #7 team in the country, doesn't have a young quarterback just throw a ball up for grabs while he is trying to prevent getting sacked. Oh wait, that is exactly what redshirt sophomore Seth Russell did. I'm sure glad that quarterback guru Art Briles loves a good bus driver, oh nope, he wants to move the football. Mistakes can be corrected but you can't teach talent. I hope Mac learns this lesson soon because I don't think our fanbase can stomach much more football like this season's.
  4. www.dentonrc.com/sports/colleges/north-texas-headlines/20120621-football-Pflugerville-qb-commits-to-mean-green.ece This article shows he committed in June before his senior season with offers from Montana and LaTech and interest from several others. Edit: Sorry, tried to link it for you guys but for whatever reason, my comp won't allow me to quote or post links.
  5. I find it incredibly frustrating that we have lost twice to and never beaten a team that had not even played one college football game yet when our head coach arrived. Our program is over a century old and their program is not even half a decade yet. Ridiculous.
  6. His twitter shows he is in Austin with his family and returning to Denton tomorrow. He also has posted several pro-Mean Green retweets. I would bet Mac let him spend time with his baby girl for the holidays since his chances of playing were small. This was mini-Mac's season to finish for better or worse. I think Dajon will be back in the hunt come spring. He is a grinder with a lot of heart. He doesn't seem like the type to cut bait and walk away. He committed to us and didn't even consider other schools. I think if he works out the freshman mistakes in the offseason, and studies his reads and playbook, he will be our guy next year. Unless, of course, Means blindsides us with his ability.
  7. TFLF, I didn't include Nicholls State because they aren't an FBS school and shouldn't count in Dajon's favor. Greer or McNulty could've smoked those guys just as easily. I tried to keep in fair using just FBS defenses.
  8. Mac means that after the game on Saturday Connor Means will no longer be redshirting and will be in the mix to be the starter. He did not say he was going to burn Means' redshirt. In fact, he said McNulty is starting again. If anyone is going to be in Vegas, PLEASE take the under and give me a share of your winnings.
  9. TFLF, of the 10 defenses that we have faced Indiana and UAB rank 7th and 6th respectively so they aren't exactly two of the worst defenses we have faced. Also, Indiana has to play conference ball against the toughest division of the Big 10 every week, while UAB had to play Arkansas and Mississippi State. Greer had the worst shake of it playing the 2 toughest defenses we've faced in Texas (27th) and LaTech (29th), but he did get to face the worst as well in SMUg (125th). Williams faced Indiana (97th) and UAB (76th) as you pointed out, the 7th and 6th best we've played. McNulty has faced USM (99th), Rice (47th), FAU (107th), UTEP (46th), and FIU(40th). These are the 8th, 5th, 9th, 4th, and 3rd best defenses we've played. Next week McNulty will quarterback against the 39th ranked defense of the Roadrunners who would be the 3rd ranked defense on the list of teams we've played. Our defense will need to have a repeat shutout if we have any shot of winning. Another fun fact, the defense we line up against every day in practice is ranked 36th in the nation and would be the 3rd best defense of anyone we play all season behind only Texas and LaTech.
  10. Aldo, say what you want about Eli but he does have more rings than Peyton.
  11. Ridiculously cheap tickets and childcare could sway me.
  12. I live just south of Austin and if I knew that Dajon was playing instead of the McNulty I would consider going but I'm not going to go watch McNulty. He gives me no hope. I see hope in Dajon despite the mistakes.
  13. I can just imagine how bad we will be with McNulty at qb next year, a young O-line, and no Skladany.
  14. It's like Todge and Rodge all over again except Riley could actually play pretty good when healthy,
  15. That only applies to quarterbacks that aren't like his adopted son.
  16. I can't see anyone we could replace him with that wouldn't be a downgrade. I'm going to miss that man. He did phenomenal things with our defense that Bowen and Deloach didn't do. He was the catalyst for "The Stand".
  17. The truth also is that the only successful seasons we've had in the last 15 years have involved tough defense and running the football, with some efficient quarterback play sprinkled in.
  18. How many of Meager's and Vizza's passes occured in the red zone? How many stalled red zone drives led to blocked field goals in that era? I guess you like to forget that part. SMU was a piss poor team when Meager put up those numbers and Bennett got fired that season. Also, for your Navy retort, they don't exactly run a typical offense over there, that game could be considered an anomaly for our purposes.
  19. Greer was so bad that even the defensive backs weren't in range to get the ball. How are you so aware of Dajon's knowledge of the playbook? He has the best arm on the team and is the most mobile. He has given up too many turnovers, this is true but Matt Schaub did the same thing and he was an experienced NFL qb. Williams' was trying ot make plays because he wanted to win the game. Maybe he is a little too "school-yard" but that can be cleaned up with reps and coaching. If properly coached, Williams WILL be an all-conference quarterback before his career ends here and he will likely rewrite our record books. It is going to take committment from both Dajon and the coaches for that to happen though.
  20. Dodge couldn't score in the red zone, played terrible special teams, didn't make recruiting defensive players a priority, and started with a HS DC. Not exactly the same situation.
  21. This McNulty business is going to end u costing Mac his job. He is so stubborn. That Dajon pass to an open UAB defensive back is apparently unforgiveable in Mac's eyes. If he won't let Dajon play then maybe McNulty and Greer can trade reps. McNulty couldn't start for D3 Wartburg College in Iowa much less any FBS team. If his dad wasn't Mac's buddy, this dude would be in a frat drinking beer in Iowa City right now.
  22. Because when the offense scores, the defense gets excited and plays better. When the offense goes 3 and out time after time, the defense gives up and plays worse.
  23. Todd Dodge ran the spread while he was here and it was great from 20 to 20 but wasn't worth a flip in the redz zone. No thank you! That is a period of Mean Green football I'd rather not relive. Vizza set records, Meager set records, We still lost the games. Awful.
  24. Harry, I agree that the defense looked poor and unagressive, however, it seems like the entire team looks deflated with McNulty at qb . Despite the rookie mistakes, Dajon is still our best qb, and even when he isn't playing he is out there pumping up his teammates when the come to the sideline. Everyone knows that McNulty will never lead this team to a winning record but he is hard to overtake because of some cronyism/nepotism. Dajon is only a redshirt freshman, he has time to grow. they need to let him take his lumps and learn from them. We have already seen the best McNulty has to offer and it just isn't good enough. The defense can only watch us go punt so many times before they just get to that "why try" phase.
