​We aren't talking about Riley Dodge here who despite his size and fragility, had some real talent. We didn't poach the kid from Iowa or Iowa State. Your thought process seems to be that Greer and DW were so bad that no matter how bad McNulty(and our offense with him at the helm) got that the other two were so bad that a second chance could not possibly warranted. Is that correct? Here is an honest question: Could you say with any degree of certainty that, if McCarney retired after the HOD bowl and Canales took over, McNulty would be the starter today? Maybe you would argue that Chico has a different offensive philosophy so it isn't a fair question but what about the Buick? If Dickey took over this team after the '14 season, would he have picked McNulty out of our stable of qbs to "drive the bus" based on their performance this spring?

In case you were wondering, yes the Dave Butler referenced in the first post had at least one son, and he was a starting center for Iowa State under Dan McCarney.

This is not a typical quarterback-coach relationship.

​ I believe every quarterback you listed was argued to be better than McNulty who has never shown himself to be a reliable D1 quarterback despite more chances than he probably deserved. I may be crazy but I'd almost bet my degree that if Andrew McNulty is not on UNT's roster, DW does not leave the program.

GOMG2013: Year 1:True freshman with NO other scholly offers just happens to come in his very first game game for the sole purpose of scoring the first touchdown in our long-awaited new stadium. Thompson goes down and same true freshman starts over a 3 star 6'4" juco transfer. Goes on to finish the season with 1 TD and 3 INTs. Year 2: Thompson stays healthy so true sophomore redshirts. Year 3: Thompson is a senior and has his best year, we go bowling and redshirt sophomore is relegated to mopup duty. Year 4: Game 1, backs up a 6'5" 2 star juco transfer, juco goes 2/11 for 8yds and 1ints, redshirt junior comes in to go 1/6 for 7 yards with 2INTs(1 for td). Game 2, juco transfer goes 9/12 for 86yds, no int or td, rs junior comes in for mopup duty, goes 3/5 for 22yds, no ints or tds. Game 3, juco goes 13/27 for 77yds with no int or td, falls out of favor, redshirt freshman comes in and goes 5/7 for 98yds and leads 3 td drives. No redshirt junior this game for unknown reasons. Game 4, fanbase pressure leads to redshirt freshman being named starter, has good game against very poor opponent going 11/14 for 176yds and 3tds. That narrative is a boldfaced lie to allow a certain extended family member to live his dreams as a D1 qb. I have no doubt that DW would have performed better in games 8 through 11 and believe Greer might have too(his performance in games 2 and 3 are no worse than McNulty in games 8-11). McNulty should have been benched in game 11 but wasn't because of the favoritism that you say does not exist.

I agree with oldguystudent. I'm starting to think that Coach Mac wouldn't trade McNulty even for a qb like Hackenburg or Dak Prescott. It'll be interesting to see if Smith truly gets the opportunity to win the job in the fall.

I'd rather have Bogenschutz over McNulty. He has proven he can complete passes to Goree and Rutherford.

Since the semester has ended, would we have any updates on his eligibility? or does he have to pass some summer classes too before he will be eligible?

I think this is fantastic. I know that track help Johnny Quinn with his speed and will help our current players as well.

The "top returnees" list turns my stomach. It should say, "folks that saw the field more than once". Top returnees should be a much smaller list.

It should be pointed out that all schools listed in this thread were schools the media decided would be a good fit for him. He has not mentioned any school. You never get a date if you are too afraid of rejection to ask. I say we shoot him an offer even if we aren't at the top of the pecking order, the worst he can say is no and we'd be in the same situation we are now. Todd Dodge tried to recruit Rex Burkhead and even though we didn't get him, I applaud the efforts to at least make contact with a high profile player.

Good kid. Glad to see him get a good job. Hopefully he has no animosity towards us and can steer some quality recruits our way.
